When will it start?

Ok, long story cut short - I have a coil fitted and had some one-sided pain. DP insisted I did a pregnancy test because he was worrying about ectopic (we were told higher risk due to the coil). I tested to keep him happy and got a BFP. This was mid cycle, only had a period 19 days before and I do tend to have long cycles (between 32 and 36 days and not predictable), so in theory I think I should have been ovulating at this point - according to one of the nurses.

We went to the GP's and were referred to the hospital where they scanned me (couldn't see anything) and they took blood. I had 156 hcg levels. They retested on Thursday and it had gone down to 65, so I was told this was a failed pregnancy.

I am confused about the dates and assume I must have been pregnant since before my last period, although didn't know this was possible. Now I'm worried because I haven't started bleeding yet and keep getting the one sided pain and nausea.

Does anyone know when I should start bleeding or how bad it's going to be? Can anyone make sense of the dates and give me some idea how pregnant I may have been? At what point should I go back to the GP's if nothing's happened?

This is the first time anything like this has ever happened to me and I'm really nervous and unsure.

Thank you

Did they scan your ovaries and find nothing? If so, it sounds like a chemical pregnancy. Keep an eye on the pain though, and if you get any hip or shoulder pain go straight to A&E (its classic reffered pain from an ectopic)

Thanks for your reply Imnotaslimjim. Yes, they did scan my ovaries and they were fine. They also scanned the tubes and they couldn't see anything there, but said that it could have been too small to see anyway. The lining of the womb was thickened and she said this was indicative of an early pregnancy.

They said that hormone level halving meant it was failing, however I am getting more symptoms of pregnancy (sore hands exactly like the carpal tunnel I had with DD, sore boobs, heartburn, nausea) and still getting one sided pain (not severe pain, just niggling like a period pain - worse when I walk or go to the loo). This has been there for about 4 days now. Could it just be my body trying to expel things?

I have to do another test on Friday to make sure it's negative and they said I could go to the EPU to do it if I wanted to, so I may go there if nothing has happened in the meantime. Is there any point testing again sooner? I know that the pregnancy has failed and I'm not trying to hang on to anything - just worried that nothing else is happening yet.

Thank you
