Hi, I'm new to the site and after suffering a MC on Tuesday I would like to know can you have a MC with a closed cervix?? This is what I was told by Gynae after seeing nothing on the vaginal USS. My HCG was taken but I never got told if they'd doubled/decreased . The hosp was so busy that night I was just kinda seen to and rushed out iyswim?? I was told to go back for a repeat scan yesterday.. I never went as I couldn't stand the thought of being told I'd MC twice

Sorry to hear you are going through a tough time.

I am a little confused as to how you know you have miscarried? I might be misreading what you have written, but you had a scan where the cervix was seen to be closed but no evidence of a pregnancy, and you don't know your hcg levels and if they were rising or falling...... So why do you say you are suffereing a miscarriage and are worried about going back for a scan?

The repeat scan would be important to establish if everything has been lost or if it was just too early to see anything on the scan.

I think you should contact the hospital and find out if your hcg levels were rising or falling and whether they were over 1000. This would help to establish if it was a miscarriage. It is not usual practice to rescan in two days, so I am wondering if the doctors were concerned about the possibility of an ectopic pregnancy, or if your hcg levels were too low to see anything on the scan.

Even if you can't face going back for another scan (which I can totally understand), it would probrably help you if you found out the hcg levels.

Sorry again to read you having this difficult time.

Hi thanks for replying! I started bleeding on sunday (only light) and went to the hosp I was given an v/uss which showed the sack in the womb, they took hcg then. Tues I started bleeding heavily that's when they said my cervix was closed but the sack was no longer showing on the scan

Sad Sorry to hear that. The extra scan was probrably just going to be to check that everything had passed and that the uterus lining was back to normal thickness etc. It does sound like your body was miscarrying naturally and at an early stage, your cervix could have opened when you were passing the blood earlier and closed again by the time the second scan occurred possibly? As long as the hcg levels were decreasing nicely, then that is the main thing.

I have declined to have scans done on a couple of my miscarriages, they are not essential in all cases and for me it often just caused more distress too.

Be kind to yourself over the next few days, it is hard going through a loss, emotionally tough. There is a miscarriage thread link here on mumsnet if you would like to chat to others going through similar to yourself.
