Could this be a mmc?

Went for may 12 week scan yesterday and although it showed a sac and yolk the embryo only measured 5 weeks (2.9mm). I have to back again in 10 days to see if it has grown and to see if this is just an early pregnancy or if I mc'd at 5 wks. They can't ddetect a hb at this stage so can't give a conclusive answer.

I truly think it is the latter as I did a pg test/s 5 weeks ago which said I was 3+ wks and going by my last period my mw said I was probably around 8 weeks then - which would make me about 13 wks now.

However if I did mc at 5 weeks why is everthing still in my body - surely I should have naturally mc by now? I've had some light brown spotting/discharge - but only very little once or twice a day for the last couple of weeks.

My other concern is if this is a partial molar pregnancy - had never heard of it but I've just read some threads on here about it!

Be good to hear if anyone has experienced anything similar. The 10 wait is the worse as you are just in limbo.

I'm sorry you are going thru this.

I had a mmc a few weeks ago. I started spotting (brown mucous) at 11+ weeks, a scan the next day showed that the baby had stopped growing at 8 weeks. The only clues that something was wrong was the spotting and that my preg symptoms had eased off, I had had a bad feeling about the pg from the start tho tbh.

I'm sorry I can't give you a positive story, I hope someone who can will come along, good luck and this thread is always here if you need more advice x

Hi

I am sorry for what you are going through and you are right the waiting is unbearable.

I have had 8 mc so understand what you are going through. If I understand it correctly it is the sac which produces the pregnancy hormones so therefore your body thinks you are pregnant even if there is something wrong with the baby. You can therefore carry on with a pregnancy with full symptoms but it is not viable.

There are stories like yours with happy endings but at 12 weeks (if you are certain of your dates) I would hope for the best but prepare for the worse. They have to give it some time between scans to check for any growth but at 12 weeks there should be plenty to see. I would ask for a scan sooner than ten days.

I don't know anything about molar pregnancies but I have had very early miscarriages 6 weeks and some later at 9, 10 and 12 weeks and none of them have been molar.

I hope you get a happy outcome.

I had pretty much the same thing at the end of January. I had a scan at 11 weeks and the baby measured only 6 weeks. I was offered an ERPC there and then, I wasn't asked to wait for another scan. I was very sure of my dates though as I had been ill with pneumonia for the 8 weeks following conception.

I think, in all honesty with a difference of 7 weeks that it doesn't look good. I wish I could say otherwise :(

Good luck, please let us know how it turns out x

Thank you for your responses and thank you for sharing your experiences.
I know deep down what the result will be at my next scan, but they wouldn't confirm anything yesterday as the scan shows I'm 5 wks and as no hb can generally be found at that stage they can't confirm if it's an early pg or an mmc. I told them that the test I did 5 wks ago showed postive (3+ wks)- yet if I'm only 5 weeks now the test I did would have been before conception - their response was the tests aren't always right!?!? Don't think their math is too good!!

I'm hoping that if this is a mmc that my body deals with it naturally before 10 days (my next scan)- but is it rather late now - 7+ wks since my mmc?
I have some twinges in my pelvis but don't really know what symptoms to expect?
