hi ,

I am sadly quite obviously in the middle of a miscarriage . I was 6wks preg and have been bleeding alot over the weekend . I had bloods take saturday which i already posted hcg was ridiculously low .
I just have some questions which the EPUnit havent been able or apparently even willing to answer this morning .

I have to go back later this evening for a further blood test before they will even discuss whats happening to me .

sorry if this is tmi .. but i need to ask someone .
Theres alot of bleeding / cramping and pains in odd places ( under my ribs and in my back) is that normal ??

I havent lost any clots only blood .. would i expect to lose clots ?? a sac or anything this early on ?? could it just be blood as there is now or is there more to come ?? and if so how long is that going to take ? Im trying to care for my other kids and im really not feeling that well at all . The EPU were pretty uninterested and have a wait and see what the bloods say approach . I feel 99.99% sure theres no pleasant suprise waiting for me now .

Can anyone help answer my questions ?

TIA x

Hi there, I so sorry for you , and can sympathise entirely. I miscarried on 29th Dec and was devastated, ( have 1 DD this was my 1st mc) i was almost 9 weeks. in reality the sac was only dated as 5 weeks, I statrted bleeding xmas eve and it was on and off and very light in flow no clots. wasnt until the 28th that the bleeding got much heavier and began with little finger nail sized clots this got heavier clots got bigger and cramps and pains which lasted about 4 hours. No odd pains like you mention though.

At the stage you were its unlikely you will see / feel the sac pass more likely you will feel a large clot which is infact the placenta pass. I found my EPU difficult to deal with , and today hve finally been discharged. As my HCG levels remained high although they were falling steadily .

Have you had any scan yet ? Normal seems to be they scan you internally to see whats happening, then a couple of days later to monitor any change its cruxifying waiting those few days, Seems your EPU may be doing the blood tests instead of scans...

if it is a MC then you may have to decide on medical intervention or natural, i opted fornatural and was sent home i bleed for about 4 weeks, but like i say my HCG remained high. I tested on Friday and got a postive on the ovu sticks though so im hoping my body is getting back to normal now fingers crossed.

hope this has answered some questions

take care of yourself

Hi ilovepanda, I'm in an almost identical situation to you. I was also 6 weeks pg and I'm in the middle of a mc. I've just come back from the EPU and they couldn't find any traces of my pregnancy. I had some light spotting on Friday, which turned to bleeding last night (but like you I didn't pass any clots). The EPU seem to think I either have already had a mc, or else my pregnancy is outside the womb (I had no idea that could even happen). I'm going back in on Wednesday to make sure my hsg levels are going down, but I don't know what to expect in the mean time. Do I go to work tomorrow? Will I have heavier bleeding? Will I be in more pain?

Hi, really sorry for your loss!!
I have just finished bleeding, I was 7wks&5 pregnant, from the advice I received every MC is different but I had bleeding just slightly heavier than my normal period, not much pain & only very small clots! It was nothing like I had been advised it would be..
I am going back tomorrow for a scan to check everything, this was offered to me when I phoned to tell them I had stopped bleeding & asked a few questions... the Midwife in the EPU told me it was not necessary but I am glad I rang as I would like to know!! I would guess if something is not right you will know but it does make you feel lonely that you are just sent home. Take it one day at a time & talk to your DH or friends!
xxx

I have had 10 miscarriages and they have all been different. The ones I have had at the 6 week mark have been

  • some were nothing much more than a period, some lighter and some slightly heavier than a normal period for me.
  • Some have had clots and some not
  • Some have lasted 3 days some more than a week.
  • One I did not bleed at all, I reabsorbed the pregnancy sac (but that is a whole different story!)
  • Pain some I had none, on one I had wierd pains associated with aching type feelings in muscles around my body.

It was only with my later m/c's that I had big pain and heavy bleeding with large clots and saw the sac with the feotus.

So I am sorry to say that it is difficult to answer your questions as it is not only different for each person but also for each m/c. For me the more I was moving around the shorter but heavier the bleeding, but that might just be me.

I am sorry that you find yourselves in this horrible situation. The best advice I can give is to be kind to yourself, do only what you feel upto, resting if you want to, but carrying on as normal if that helps. It is only you that can say what will help you most with your grieving for your loss.

Thanks for sharing your experiences galwaygal. I'm so sorry that you've had to go through this so many times. Have you gone on to have a healthy pregnancy?

Hospital confirmed last night that my hcg had dropped even further and that I have definitely miscarried.I'm still unsure if the amount of bleeding I've had is "enough"or if the worst is yet to come. But I do feel better having a definitive answer even tho its not the one I prayed for :( .

Thanks for your help ladies x

Hi ilovepanda I am sorry for you miscarriage. All my miscarriages have been around 5-7 weeks (excluding the two MMC's where I found out at 11 and 9 weeks, but baby had died at around 7 weeks).

I have never had anymore bleeding than a normal period for my spontaneous miscarriages. With my first miscarriage - I had no pain, no cramps, just normal period like bleeding. With my second spontaneous miscarriage I was around 6-7 weeks and had slight cramps for a day, but bleeding stopped after a week.
I had a medical miscarriage last week on Wednesday, and have already stopped bleeding.
I think as you were so early on, your bleeding will be nothing more than a period without clots. In my miscarriage booklet I got from the hospital it says the bleeding can last "upto" 2 weeks - so anything less than that is normal I guess.
I understand how worrying it is - I have just had my fourth, and still was worried that I wasnt bleeding much, but my MW was very reassuring and says its absolutely normal, as the uterus contracts back up, so bleeding becomes less heavy after you miscarry.

I hope you find the strength to get through this. Will be thinking of you. xx
