ERPC tomorrow - v scared

so due to have an ERPC tomorrow after a mmc. Found out at a week and a half ago at 8 weeks after spotting, but there was probably never a baby, but a blighted ovum. However sac and everything has developed.

only passed 1 clot, and been bleeding red blood for a few days.

really scared about procedure, esp anesthetic. keep crying at thought of it.

can anyone tell me what it's like? Will I bleed for long after, will it be painful after? do you still pass clots after?

Still haven't completely decided not to wait it out and see what happens, but i've been bleeding so long with nothing much happening it could take weeks. I just want it over as quickly as possible.

i had an erpc 2 years ago,it was a very quick op and after 3 days i felt back to normalphysically. i had had mmc at ten weeks.

Hello. I found everyone at the hospital took good care of me. Was in pain enough to need painkillers on the day of the op, very tired for a couple of days, bleeding for just about a week, not too heavy. Might have been clots in hospital, but not after.
Obviously everyone has a different experience, but having experienced both I found the erpc easier than waiting for it to happen. It was easier to cope with my grief after I knew my baby had gone, than when I was waiting. Hope you are ok tomorrow.

Hi, sorry you're going through this. I am actually in a hospital bed having had an ERPC about 4 hours ago so am not in the best position to talk about bleeding etc afterwards but I can tell you about the anaesthetic.

I was also terrified, I'm not good with hospitals anyway. I'm also very overweight (size 20) and a shortarse so it was decided that I wasn't suitable for day surgery, I had to stay in. Obviously that's just me but it added to the fear. It is a lot of waiting around. Then they took me into the anaesthetists room and asked loads of questions. They repeat the same questions over and over all day. Then I was given a mask for my face and a line went into my arm. Anaesthetist said I should be feeling woozy. I thought no I don't. That's the last thing I remember.

The next thing I was in the recovery room and all was well. No sickness or anything. Physically, so far, there really isn't anything to it. Emotionally is different of course. But really, dont worry about the op. Take it one step at a time x

I had my erpc on Tuesday, and like you was terrified of the thought of a ga. Honestly, it was totally fine!

I went down at 4.20pm, a bit of a owww when they put the needle in my wrist, and then straight off to sleep. Seemed to be instantly awake again in recovery, and then was back in my room by 5pm. Was drinking water and having a sandwich shortly after. Had to have had a drink, something to eat, walk to the loo and wee before leaving. We left at 7pm.

Cramping has been fine with paracetamol and ibuprofen, although was recommended to take codeine and paracetmol for first night. I've stopped bleeding now, which I was surprised at. Honestly, the procedure has been the least bad bit of the whole thing.

I had an ERPC at 18 weeks. I wasn't in much pain at all & the hospital took good care of me. I bled for about 10 days afterwards. I think I went into the operating theatre about 10.30 & DH came to pick me up about 2.30. Hope it goes ok for you x

Eggy, i don't have any advice as i mc naturally a few weeks ago. I just wanted to say good luck, i'll be thinking of you tomorrow.

GwendolineMaryLacey, i'm glad today hasn't been to bad for you. I have just replied to your other post i hadn't realised you had a erpc today. Glad to hear physically you are not to bad. The rest takes time, hopefully you'll be home tomorrow.

harassedinherpants, i'm really sorry for your loss too. I've read a couple of your posts but not replied. Just wanted to say I'm sorry, its shit isn't it?!

Thanks Collie2 yes it is totally shit!! I'm off to the doctor tomorrow to ask her to sign me off work for a bit longer as I just don't feel ready or able mentally to go back to a totally male oriented working environment where no one knows what's been happening. Hope it gets a bit easier soon!

Hi, I had an erpc a week b4 xmas, I was very nervous about the an anesthetic. I was offered a spinal instead. But I went ahead with the general and it was fine. The staff were very caring.

I was allowed home an hour after I got back to the ward. Minimal pain, more like period pain and minimal bleeding (more spotting really) for about a week.

Physically the healing process is very quick, I had 1 week off work after the procedure. Mentally, recovering takes longer, I still have bad days to be honest. But more better days.

I don't balme you harassedinherpants its still very raw for you. I had a week off while I mc and planned to go back but emotionally just needed more time.

In the end i had about 2 weeks off, but i've been lucky enough to have a female boss who has been though it and knowing she knew helped. Don't rush back, as a someone said to me - its only work and once you're back you're back.

Some days i am glad to be at work as its helps to distract me especially as my dh is away at the mo, but even now i don't think i'm really there if you know what i mean.

It will get easier. I still have really shitty days and the odd meltdown, but less often now, as opposed to all day every day!!

The strength i've got from all the loveky people on here has really got me through, even just reading other peoples posts.
