Ectopic: HcG levels still high after Methotrexate

Hi,

First of all, my sympathies are with anyone going through this. I'm probably in a different situation from most as my pregnancy was unplanned (statistically, I'm the 1 in 1,000 who conceives with a Mirena IUS fitted). I'm very fortunate to have my three lovely children and to be more convinced than ever that my family's complete but I'm still finding this distressing and my heart goes out to anyone trying for a baby.

Can anyone share how quickly your HcG levels fell after receiving Methotrexate to resolve an ectopic pregnancy?

When my levels were first tested a week ago, they were over 15,000.

It was a bit of a physical and emotional roller-coaster of a day as I woke in a pool of blood with no idea what was happening to me. The last thing I suspected was pregnancy/miscarriage because of having the Mirena fitted.I had no pregnancy symptoms and no abdominal pain.

When a pregnancy test proved positive at my GP's, I was scanned but diagnosed with a 'pregnancy of unknown location' as nothing could be seen in my womb. On Monday another consultant found 'something' in my tubes and I was injected with Methotrexate. My levels had fallen to 12,000 before getting the shot.

Today, three days later, they had only fallen to 11,00 despite a lot of heavy bleeding with clots. I'm told that those levels are still rather high.

I'm due back on Sunday for another blood test and I don't know what options will be put to me then.

Just interested in your experiences of what happened to your HcG levels after Methotrexate.

Thank you.

Mine Went up during the first three days than halved every few days with one small rise in between. But they had never been over 200 during the whole eight weeks. Did your consultant explain that sometimes people need a second shot? Hold tight til your next blood test .

Have just checked.

Day of injection 108
day 4 101
day 7 56
day 11 29
day 16 31
day 28 0.4

hope this helps.

Thank you for taking the time to check up on these figures. I'm now down to 3,000 (day 7) which was a good drop from 11,000 on day 4.

glad that things are seemingly resolving. I know how awful it is when it looks like things might drag on / be unusual. Good luck for continuing lower levels!

Thank you. My levels are now down to 100 but I lost so much blood I ended up with intravenous iron, a blood transfusion and hysteroscopy to try to work out what was going on. All a bit scary and I'm so glad to be out the other end of it.

All the best to you for the future :)

Glad it's lowering but sorry you've had such a hard time. All the best .
