1 son, 6 m/c, why these tests? Anyone decipher?

Hi Ladies,

I have a DS who is 3.9. Conceived him no problem, perfect pregnancy etc.
Since we have dreamt of a sibling for him but have just experienced chemical? m/c #6.
After the 3rd I was tested for clotting factors etc with a Gynae and they were all clear.
I do have an underactive thyroid (Hashimotos) since DS but I'm on good meds and feel fine, levels perfect!
I was referred to an Endocrinologist this week for his help and he has bloods tested me for LH, FSH, B12+Folate, TF3, Prolactin (ok before?)
I didn't know I was very early pregnant so this may affect the results, 9 days before AF due but lost it yesterday.
The Endo was fantastic but didn't go in to details about the tests.
Oh and I'm 38.
If anyone has had these tests I'd love to hear from you. Tell me about your treatments.

I recognise some of those tests and I'm guessing you will have had them because they can all change since your DS. LH is responsible for ovulation and corpus luteum amongst other things so low levels would indicate you re not ovulating. FSH is responsible for ripening of the follicles. B12 and folate are necessary for cell division and neural development. There are also other conditions caused by lack of folate including clotting issues. (I can answer lots of questions about this as I have a blood disorder that prevents processing of B vits)Prolactin is necessary for production of progesterone by the corpus luteum. I am guessing your mcs have all been early? Your tests seem to indicate they are looking for reasons why pg has not really got off to good start.
FYI my treatment is high dose folic acid, aspirin and probably heparin later on.
Although you have one DS, have you been offered chromosome tests too? Might be worth an investment if the other results come back normal?

My m/c are all 4-5 weeks. Literally a day to a week after a BFP!
I am getting positive Ov tests every month so thats a start.
I have been tested for clotting disorders previous and they were ok.
The Endo said the B12 test is v important.
I'll keep you posted.

Same history as me! 4 mc all at 4/5wks. Yes B12 is vital - I had a test called MTHFR and was found to be without the twin set of genes that process and store B12. This was after I had a generic test that showed low folate levels on NHS. I had to go private to have the MTHFR test. Prob completely wrong medical terminology but upshot is no folates = no viable pg. It is possible to have just one of the genes missing and still have a successful pg but having neither means 0 chance. This is an inherited condition so not one that develops.
Other probs that can develop since birth of DS - polyps, fibroids, polycystic ovary? Have you had a pelvic scan

I haven't had a pelvic scan. Dr seemed to think carrying out the bloods was the best start.
My periods are like clockwork which is good for a thyoid patient!
I still think the thyroid antibodies attack the embryo causing m/c.
Lovely Dr is really interested in my case so hopefully he will continue to research (if I give him another web address...lol).

Sound like you are having some good care there. Its weird how finding something wrong is so comforting (iyswim). When I was waiting for my test results I was more nervous that they wouldnt find anything, which seems all wrong! All the best, hopefully the next pg will be 'the one' xx
