Advice needed re:D&C

My friend sadly suffered a miscarriage that was 'diagnosed' on Monday, she has only had very light bleeding so far and so has been booked in for D&C on Thursday.

She has just told me that her bleeding has become slightly heavier. Described it as like a period. The question is, will she still have the procedure?

I hope I have worded it so as not to offend/upset anyone as I am aware of what a sensitive issue this is.

Yes, possibly sooner if she starts to bleed heavier. She needs to head to A&E if she starts bleeding heavily and/or passing large clots.

She wants the procedure and is worried they'll not do it thinking it would be better to go through it naturally. (if that makes sense)

They have more reason to do it if she is bleeding because she is at higher risk of infection if everything does not pass naturally.

FYI you are fast-tracked on the day of surgery if you are bleeding so worth contacting the hospital to say she is bleeding. They may get her in sooner than Thurs. Damn NHS.

I imagine it would depend on how heavy the bleeding is, personally I have had 3 erpc's once I started bleeding but the loss was not massive iyswim?
Another of my m/c's was supposed to be surgical but due to the fact that the date they gave me for the erpc was 10 days after I started bleeding I ended up miscarrying naturally.
Hope she gets the proceedure she wants, if she is bleeding heavily, I think the advice is more than a pad an hour she should go to a&e to get some decent pain relief which for me helped me through it.

Thankyou all for the advice. It's a horrible thing to have to go through and the not knowing must make it all the more difficult. I have encouraged her to visit mn which I know he has now done. She is watching this thread herself now for advice so thanks again...

Hi, I went very quickly form a slight bleed to really heavy and painful. I had one on the 1 Oct and went to hospital as I was losing a lot of blood. When I went to my GP at first he said if the bleeding is ANYTHING that scares you then go to A&E.
How far along is your friend? I was 9 weeks, and would be happy to talk to her about via PM or here :)

I went from some very light spotting all day to suddenly heavy and then within ten minutes passing almost everything, going straight to a and e and the doc there almost manually clearing the rest. I was then scanned to see how much was left, in my case there was below a certain amount left so they didn't do an erpc but put my on syntocin and gave me tablets to hasten the whole process. I really wanted an erpc rather than to miscarry 'naturally' but in a way it was sort of closure to actually pass it all. For her if she is very early this 'heavy period' might well be almost the full miscarriage and she might want to go into a and e now.

And if your friend likes, she can pm me, I'd be happy to talk to her because I was in a similar situation last week - at about 11.5 weeks pregnant with twins measuring 6 weeks if that is any help

I'm so sorry for your loss. I am 24 weeks pg myself so can't even begin to imagine what she is going through and hate the fact that there is absolutely nothing I can do
