MTHFR result shows no folates - abnormality inevitable?

Hi
After 4mcs and a battery of blood tests, the result today from the MTHFR test shows I am homozygous which if I understand it, means I have very low folate levels that can lead to all sorts of problems. The Dr has immediately put me on high dose folic acid which is fine but I am already 5 weeks pg - does the lack of folates at such a crucial stage mean a foetal abnormality is evitable? Anyone got any experience of this...preferably with a happy outcome?
