Have had 3 MC in last 18 months. 1st one Christmas 2008 MMC at 12 weeks, 2nd bleeding at 9 weeks (Christmas 2009) and last one this summer at 8 weeks. Have been offered blood tests (after being talked out of them after the 2nd MC)but nothing else. Just told to try again and arrange an early scan next time. Am going to be 40 next year and getting really upset and disappointed by hospital response. I`m taking folic acid and pregnancy vitamins but wonder if there should be something else I should be trying or doing?

Anyone got any ideas?

I feel like Ive been written off because of my age, but dont feel like giving up just yet. Want to keep up the fight for answers but don`t have the ammunition. Has anyone had success with steroids or anything else? has anyone else had a similar experience with a hospital and what did you do? Is there light at the end of the tunnel or should I just give up our dreams of having a family?

Thanks XX

hi, ive recently sufferd my first mc at 13 weeks, baby 8 weeks so i feel your pain, not sure how i would be feeling after 3 mc,s though.
A friend of mine also had 3 in the space of 18 months, she was also offered blood tests, which found that she had a clotting disorder, she was advised to take a baby asprin daily for the first 12 weeks, she is now 12 weeks and all,s looking good.
Not sure if thats any help. Aagin, sorry for your losses. X

Go to your GP and insist on a referral to a specialist. You should be given one if you have suffered 3 mc. I feel your pain as I had 3 on the trot and was fortunate to have been told that there was a recurrent mc consultant in my area. My GP referred me no problem at all.

Had I not been pg again by my first appointment with her, she would have done investigations, but as it was she scanned me weekly for the first 12 weeks and DS2 arrived last year.

DOn't lose hope. I am now pg with twins and am about to turn 40 in 2 weeks. If you had told me 2 years ago that this would be the case, I would have laughed in your face having just had 3 mcs on the trot.

The other thing that I swear helped me was reflexology, which I had to get pg and to get me through pg but you would need to find a reflexologist who specialises in maternity issues.

Good luck and hope you feel better soon. xx

I'm a year older than you Spikey and have just been referred following 2 mc by my GP (don't know what they'll do for me yet though). I'd be raging if I got that little help after 3. I thought investigations after 3 were standard? (in Uk at least). Please go and pester them a bit. An early scan won't do anything other than possibly reassure you, if there's a problem that's not going to help with it, unfortunately. Sorry for you losses.

Hi SpikeyJo,

So sorry to hear about your miscarriages, it's so hard isn't it. I've lost three babies in the last couple of years, and am now ttc again. With my last pregnancy I was told to use progesterone pessaries from getting a BFP until 12 weeks which I did. (Unfortunately the baby had severe complications and we ended up having to terminate at 15 weeks.)
I am also taking the maximum dose of folic acid (5mg) a day - Holland and Barrett sell 80mcg tablets and I make the dose up from that. I have read that this could aid conception, and even that it might be good for your OH to take too... (Just a normal dose though). My doctor said I didn't need to do this, but there's no harm in it, and anything's worth a try isn't it!

I would absolutely agree with smokeybacon (congrats on your pregnancy by the way, lovely to hear Smile) in that you should seek advice from a specialist. They should be acting quickly given your age, so make sure you insist on a referral. Plenty of people have babies at 40 and above, so don't let them write you off!

Also, acupuncture might be worth a try? I can give you a website address to find a reputable one if you'd like - just let me know...

Good luck x

Just thought - maybe those tablets are 800mcg? Anyway, I take 6 of them, which adds up to almost the max amount. (Brain's not working, sorry!)
