Hi mumsnetters

Anyone any experience of BV? (bacterial vaginosis)

Diagnosis post MC but dont really know much about it and could do with some guidance if anyone is out there!

(wasnt really sure where to post this either...didnt seem right on the conception thread!)

I have had it once or twice. It's a bacterial infection which can apparently cause miscarriage. I think I've read it causes later miscarriages but I'm not 100% sure. It can be easily cleared up with antibiotics, Metranidazole I think.

They say it makes your vaginal discharge smell fishy which is how you know you have it as I don't think there are any other symptoms. You can actually buy home testing kits for this from homehealth-uk.com (which is also where I get my cheapie OPK and pregnancy tests from). If you are concerned that this may have caused your mc then it may put your mind at ease to use a couple of home tests next time you are pregnant. I am seriously considering this myself actually too as I've had no other answers from the recurrent miscarriage clinic. The last time I had BV I only found out after a smear so I don't seem to recall any untoward smells, it was discovered by chance.

Thanks kittens no i didnt have symptoms either! Thanks for the tips about home tests though :)
