Think I've had a miscarriage: what do I do now?

Hello lovely mumsnetters, would really appreciate your advice and knowledge.

I had a positive test last week, but started bleeding on Monday (approx 5 wks pg). It was reasonably heavy (not as heavy as a heavy period, but a lot more than just spotting)and I had cramps (again, reasonably mild, but very definitely there) - it lasted just over 2 days and seems now to have stopped.

I saw the doctor on Monday evening and she said pretty much just wait and see, but she did mention something about if it stopped more quickly than a normal period would, then I should get it checkout out in case it was an "incomplete miscarriage".

But how do I do that? What test could they do - a scan surely wouldn't show anything at this stage anyway? Do I have to wait a while - and what would they do if it was this...?

So sorry that you are going through this Kiwi.

I'd go back to your GP, then they can refer you for a scan or blood tests at your local early pregnancy unit. A scan will show if your uterus is empty or not, and if it isn't (and there of course is still the possibility that you haven't had a mc as well) they will offer you an ERPC if they can see the your pregnancy has ended but not everything has been expelled

Sorry for your situation, get in contact with the epu via gp and arrange for a scan.
Hope it all works out well x

Sorry Kiwi :(

Have you taken another test? I should think that you won't have any hormones left if you did have an early m/c. If it's positive get down to the GP for bloods or referal to EPU.
