Has anyone had bleeding for more than 2 weeks and still been pg?

Would be good to hear other experiences of bleeding in early pregnancy and things progressing positively. I'm 6 weeks today, but been bleeding for over 19 days, mainly very light flow and dark brown. Thought it was my normal period to start with but then it kept stopping and starting, and I knew something was a bit different, so did a test last Saturday. Went for a scan on Monday where dates were confirmed as 5+4, and another scan booked for 27th September. I don't feel pregnant - no symptoms apart from being a bit tired and needing the loo all the time!
Can anyone share their positive stories - any happy endings?

yes, i bled with dd from the week after i did the pregnancy test until 23 weeks, a mixture of red, brown, heavy, light almost on a daily basis. the reason for it was never really found, but dd was ok despite there being a few times we thought it must be all over.

That's very heartening to hear such an amazing outcome! Did you have to go for lots of scans throughout? I bet it was scary to bleed for so long. Even at this stage I can't relax at all - can't imagine it was easy for you to relax in those 23 weeks!

Yes, me too. I bled from week 6 to week 13. Not very heavily, mostly just spotting, but made it very hard to relax. Luckily all was fine and I have a gorgeous 21 month old.

Hope it all goes well for you.

Pancakeflipper · 16/09/2010 23:06

Yes. Week 7 until about 16. Then off and on...it was worrying. Baby was fine.

Hope you ok.

i had a scan at 6 weeks due to bleeding, where we first saw her heartbeat, then after another bad bleed, had another 2 scans, fourth scan was the routine 12 week one. after that, had another one at 17 weeks due to testing high risk for downs on the blood test and having an amnio (never again, it was a horrid experience). the scan after that was the 20 week one, sonographer was quite rough and i had a bad bleed the next day, but that was the last scan as by that point, they can listen to the heart. then at 23 weeks, the bleeding just seemed to stop, rest of pregnancy was problem free, but yes, it was very hard to relax and enjoy being pregnant. dd was a very wriggly baby, which to some extent helped as i could feel her moving all the time, so knew all was ok.

it was very frustrating that no-one could tell us why i was bleeding though. really hope you have a good outcome, fingers crossed, x.

I didn't know I was pg because I had a proper period, then bled/spotted daily for 4 weeks after that. Now 3rd trimester and fingers crossed

tigerbear · 16/09/2010 23:13

Thanks for sharing your stories, very reassuring. The waiting between scans is horrid isn't it?
I'm trying to prepare myself for the worst outcome, while secretly hoping all will be ok.
Freaky thing is that I found out I was pg at exactly the same time as this last year, and had an mc earlier at approx 5 weeks, so scared the same thing will happen.

Hi Tiger- I bled from wk 12- 16 also had very bad cramps- I actually had my appendix out at 11 wks pregnant which is probably what set it off. I had mix of brown spotting followed by bright red blood whilst having very strong cramps. TMI but I also lost amniotic fluid- would get a small'gush' now and then. But in the end had a full term 8lb 5oz baby! I know its really worrying and hopefully the next scan will reassure you Stay strong and good luck to you.

tigerbear · 17/09/2010 22:18

Thanks Mrsfollow. Having your appendix out at 11 weeks must have been scary - your poor body!

Aw hope everything is ok. I did with both pregnancies at 15 weeks both times. It was horrible, horrible and so stressful. Lasted for weeks. But all ok. I hope so for you too.

alliwantissleep · 17/09/2010 22:31

I bled with both pregnancies too, intermittent spotting with DC1 and solidly for 6 weeks between week 5 and 13 (bit like pirateparty) but mine was more like a light period, I was convinced I was miscarrying as was my GP but I din't and have a very health DC2. I was very anaemic due to the blood loss by wk 10 and took iron supplements for about 14 months afterwards (up to 6mths after DC2 was born due to BF). Good luck!

alfabetty · 17/09/2010 22:40

Me too, bled from for a couple of weeks with my first and from 6-10 weeks with my second, light brown spotting but every day. Very stressful, but both pregnancies were fine.

It was described to me as a bit like a nosebleed, lots of new blood vessels forming and some break, but no harm done. Dr did sign me off work though, to rest. And prescribed iron supplements.

alfabetty · 17/09/2010 22:41

And I was also told that it's not 'normal' (in that you shouldn't bleed while preg) but it is very common. Good luck.

hester · 17/09/2010 22:58

I bled from weeks 9 to 20. It did my head in, especially as I had recently miscarried. But my baby was fine.

I'm really sorry you're going through this stress. Hope it all goes well for you xx

tigerbear · 18/09/2010 11:50

Thanks everyone. The bleeding has stopped, however I don't feel pregnant at all. Surely by 6 weeks I should have symptoms? Never thought I would actually WANT to have morning sickness!

OP posts:
hester · 21/09/2010 22:52

Morning sickness doesn't usually start till 8 weeks. It's quite normal not to feel any symptoms at your stage. I know it's hard (I was practically raving throughout the first trimester) but try to relax. Very best of luck for your next scan - let us know how you get on.

larakitten · 23/09/2010 14:53

Yep. I bled from 6 weeks until 17 weeks from a massive subchorionic haematoma. The clot was bigger than my bean, but somehow she made it through some mighty bleeds when we thought it must surely be over.

She was very sick when she was born, but that was totally unrelated to the bleeding. Its scary, not normal, but very common indeed.

Just rest and take it easy. Unfortunately, if nature decided this is not your time then there's not a lot you can do about it, but by resting up and taking it easy you are giving your bean the best shot.

Good luck!

tigerbear · 23/09/2010 23:22

Thanks everyone. I've convinced myself that there won't be anything there when I have the scan on Monday. Really trying not to get my hopes up, but hearing everyones experiences is really interesting. The little beans can cope with a lot!

I did in my first pregnancy from about 5weeks til 8/9 weeks. Always quite light with abdominal pains at times

brettgirl2 · 24/09/2010 21:45
