Just found out I have miscarried

Hi all,
I was taken into A&E on Sunday with shooting pains, originally thought it was ectopic. I am 5 weeks. After tests was told not ectopic and cervix closed so not miscarried. Have had somoe bleeding but only brown stuff and only when go to loo. My HGC levels were 500, went back yesterday for some more blood tests and got results today and now only 141, so was told that I had miscarried. I have been having lower back pain but no proper bleeding, what happens now? Do i have to wait for it to come out naturally or do i have to go back into hospital? xx

emmywoo, am so sorry u r going through this, i was 18 weeks pregnant until end of july and lost mine i had to deliver the baby but i think at 5 weeks its maybe a bit different.

Did hospital not give u some advice, i think it should come away naturally and may be mainly blood/clots, but if not u may need a d&c.

i really do feel for u , i am still suffering all these weeks later but u will get through it.

i am sure someone who was closer to ur dates will be able to advise better.

I'm soooo sorry for you!!! How are you feeling?

I think if you can pass it on your own that is the best bet but if you have an Early Pregnancy Unit near you then I would call them. NHS direct or Dr would be the next best bet for advice.

I think I'm in the same boat now, was just about to post asking about clots. I was still bleeding this morning so called EPU and they've brought my scan forward to next Weds but since then I've passed a clot the size of a small kidney bean and have pretty much resigned myself to the fact that was probably my baby.

I'm so sorry for your loss, hope you're doing as well as can be expected.

I am in shock and completely devested, more than I thought I would be. It may seem silly but getting alot of comfort from people who have written on here to say that they went on to have children after miscarriage.

I am thinking of you also, i just read your post on the other thread. Was the clot brown or red? How do you feel in yourself, any pains?x

Ah bless you, really thinking of you!!! As for sounding silly, not at all!!! I think it's easy for people to underestimate how much a site like this can really help. It's certainly helped me last couple of days....so thank you!!!

It was still browny in colour although a small amount of blood previous has been a bit more pinky. Sorry for being disgusting but I kind of squashed it gently between tissue and it seemed mucus like. In myself I'm fine, no real pains, perhaps slight period pain/discomfort but that's it really.

Hello Emmywoo. So sorry to hear that you are going through this. As others have said, do you have a local EPU that you can contact or can you contact your GP and see if they can refer you. I presume the hospital want to see you again and scan you?

I have just had a call from EPU, they want me in tomorrow for another blood test, will get result on Friday and then take from there. I asked why I need another one and she said that they need to check the levels again and then decide on best course of action. xx

Hi Emmywoo I am so sorry you are having to go through this.
You should be giving 3 choices:

1. Conservative management - the hope that the body will naturally miscarry.
2. Medical intervention - this is where you are given medicine to force your body to miscarry
3. Surgical intervention - ERPC - medical removal.

I opted for conservative management and that worked for me but your consultant might not recommend this if your bloods indicate your HCG levels are not falling (indication that your body is miscarrying).
