Experience with high dose steroids?

Hi there, this is my first post although I'm an avid reader. After 5 early mc in two and a half years, no more help offered from St Marys, I've ended up being diagnosed with high NK cells by Dr Shehata in London. Only a high dose of the steroid prednisolone seemed to bring my count down (60mg),so will be trying that (with everything crossed!)next time I'm pregnant. 40 with no children but a supportive fiance. Any experiences much appreciated :)

am so very sorry for your losses, i know how difficult this is.

I have seen Mr S before and tried his method using high dose steroids but sadly i still mc so i went and had the full level 2 tests (chicago tets) at CARE Nottingham with Mr Ndukwe. Some ladies get them done through Dr Gorgy in London (the fertility academy). Mr S looks in to nk cells but not into other immune issues such dq alpha, th1 and th2, LAD etc (there's more info on these tests on fertilityfriends under the investigations forum). These clinics use drugs such as intralipids, humira, lit etc on top of the usual's such as steroids, heparin, etc...

The results do seem to be quite good with many ladies now had babies or preg with the use of these drugs. I am hoping to try again using intralipids, lit, steroids and humira next time.

Ah thanks sooo much Sue, it's amazing to feel lots of positive support and also to hear of further options (if needs be). I'll look into it. I thought that Mr S was possibly our last chance.

i was on steroids for NK cells for the first trimester of this pregnancy. i had four MCs (following a healthy baby three years ago.) so we were ready to try anything. My dose wasn't as high as you've been recommended - i was on 25mg. None of the really dire side effects i was warned about happened: I didn't put on any weight, didn't look puffy; didn't feel suicidal; didn't grow any extra body hair (!). However they did give me really bad insomnia and i felt pretty low. but i know i'd have felt low anyway as the first few weeks of pregnancy are so difficult for me now, not knowing if it will work or not. happily i'm now 21 weeks pregnant - yay! - so perhaps the steroids worked for me; or it may have been blood thinners (clexane/heparin) i also took this time. i really hope it works for you....the only other things i did differently this time were no hot baths (i used to like really scorching baths)+ acupuncture. it could have been any of these things or none of them. i'm only in my mid 30s though so egg quality probably not the cause of my MCs...
