hope after resolving ectopic pregnancy

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this. I found out I have a resolving ectopic pregnancy in my left ovary (8weeks). The doctor told me today that my levels are less than 50 now, so just need to take a test next week and check it is a bfn and then carry on as 'normal'?!

Still been feeling really up and down and emotional/ numb if that makes sense. Has anyone on here been in a similar situation and conceived afterwards. Did your AF return to 'normal' quicly? Did you conceive again straight away, have more complications or wait a while?

no personal experience but i do have a friend who has a two week old baby boy, and before she got preg with him she had an eptopic, she had to take a drug to resolve it, and then couldn't ttc for 3mths? but went on to get pregnant and like i said now has a lovely new baby :)

Thank you 4madboys. I think I am very lucky in a way that I didn't the injection. Any positive stories welcome :)

My best friend had a burst ectopic at 7 weeks and had the tube removed as an emergency. 18 months later she had a healthy DS.

Her second ectopic in the other tube was picked up early - 5 weeks and she was early enough to have methotrexate to clear it. She had DD a year later.

All good now.

So sorry to hear about your ectopic. I had an ectopic in May 2010 & had my left tube removed. My husband was in Afghanistan at the time & returned home in late June. I fell pregnant again within a week of his return & have just had my 6 week scan confirming everything in the right place.

Hi, really sorry to hear about your ectopic. I had one in February and took methotrexate to treat it, so 3 months off TTC. Periods went back to normal straight away once my HCG levels were normal.

Got pregnant again the first month we were allowed to try again. Now 13 weeks, everything just where it should be and going well.

i had two ectopics, first treated with metho and the second had tube removed. both were in the fallopian tubes.
i've had two dds since my eps, btw, and i found it pretty hard getting my head around trying again because you know the heartache you are putting yourself up for... but then there comes a time when you just know that if you don't go for it, the heartache will be greater.
how do they know yours was ovarian, was it very clear in the scan? if i was you i would be most comforted by that as it means that your tubes won't have been affected by the presence of the baby at all, so you should be fine next time. emotionally, however, i know it's a harder road. good luck with everything.

Thank you, I need to think about whether to try again or not so soon. Not sure if I'm ready for if I do have problems again, then again that is always a risk.

My ectopic story is a lot like Aitch's. But the good news is that after all of that I had my lovely DD2.

The first time I had methotrexate and I imagine that your hormones have probably been doing much the same as mine were then. It was a dreadful up-and-down feeling, with the week when my levels went down to zero being the worst emotionally (I cried at work... lots).

I found it impossible to stop ttc, other than during the 3 month prohibition after the metho, even though I knew more problems would hurt terribly. And now, even though we've had DD2, if my DH and I contemplate going for third child there is always the question of are we ready to go through that again, however unlikely a repeat may be.

My advice is just to give yourself time. Right now things will be very raw but eventually you will feel better. You may like to know that my second ectopic was right at the end of my tube and they had to peel it off my ovary. And then, 4 months later, DD2 was conceived with an egg that came from that side (I only had the one tube by then so she was picked up by the one on the other side). Obviously my ovary was still in good working order notwithstanding what had happened before.

oh actually that is true of me too, they know both dds came from the side without the tube, how weird is that?

this is the worst bit baby2b, the disappointment and fear is immense. and yet, and yet, and yet, look how we all do pick ourselves up and try again... we just do, because at the end of the day the desire to be mothers overwhelms everything. i hope that you get your desire soon, and without any further heartache for you and your partner.

I would say don't feel you have to rush into trying again. Although I found the 3 month enforced wait after my metho hard, in the long run being forced to wait was good for me. I had a miscarriage the cycle before my ectopic (yes, I'm stupidly fertile, just wasn't that good at staying pregnant) and with all that I was a mess. Being forced to wait and come to terms meant I could work through some of my emotions before jumping in again.

And I would say don't give up. This story was in The Guardian back in May and gave me such hope. A woman has her left ovary removed, then her right fallopian tube, but still manages to get pregnant naturally. Amazing. www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2010/may/08/tim-weaver-trying-baby

it is so raw at the beginning (I had an ectopic in August 2002), and the fear can be all consuming.

Have you found the people over at The Ectopic Pregnancy trust? they practically saved me on thier message boards after my EP - really wonderful people.

I now have 2 dds, and both times ovulated from my left ovary (left tube had ectopic - tube repaired).

Muser such an amazing article - think that was the cry i needed to have. My dh keeps saying he is fine aslong as I'm ok.

My AF has returned and I got a bfp this morning, so I guess I am ok physically...it's weird but more than anything I feel guilty. Guilty for upsetting my dh and family and guilty for ...I'm not sure what..?

it was a lovely article, glad it hit the spot for you. and totally agree that the EPT are lifesavers.

remember the thing about pregnancy and babies is, it all turns on a dime. one day you're in misery and the next, it's better because you are pregnant and the baby is in the right place. sure, the next nine months are spent in a haze of denial but this actual and very real pain of loss does fade in the end, i promise.

The EPT are amazing but the messageboards have been down for a little while. Not entirely sure why.

Wonderful words Aitch. I had two ectopics, one resolved with methatrexate and one resolved itself. 'one day you're in misery and the next, it's better because you are pregnant and the baby is in the right place'. I remember vividly going for a scan when I fell pregnant after my ectopic pregnancies and I was gobsmacked when the scan showed my son (born last year)to be in the right place. I was expecting another ectopic. I was overjoyed but then very scared and, like you say in a haze of denial. But it does come right for many people. GOOD LUCK x
