CAN A MISCARRIAGE BE PREVENTED?

THIS PASS SUNDAY I STARTED BLEEDING DUE TO A MISCARRIAGE I KNEW WAS EVENTUALLY GOING TO TAKE PLACE. I HAVE A DOCTORS APPOINTMENT TOMORROW FOR A FOLLOW UP TO SEE IF A DNC HAS TO BE DONE. I WOULD LIKE TO GO IN TO THE DOCTOR?S PREPARED WITH QUESTIONS FOR HIM. I KNOW THAT MISCARRIAGES UNFORTUNATLY ARE NOT CONTROLLABLE BUT THIS IS NOW MY 3RD AND I CAN NOT DEAL WITH THIS HAPPENING AGAIN. I WILL BE CHANGING TO A HIGH RISK/SPECIALIST AT NYU. I HAVE TO WAIT ONE MONTH FOR MY INTERVIEW WHICH IS OK. BUT IN THE MEANTIME I WANT TO START GETTING TESTED TO SEE IF THERE IS A SPECIFIC REASON I KEEP ON LOSING MY BABIES. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY FEEDBACK AS TO WHAT EXACTLY CAN BE WRONG WITH A PERSON MEDICALLY THAT CAUSE A MISCARRIAGE THAT ACTUALLY COULD BE PREVENTED? I HAVE A CLEAN BILL OF HEALTH AND TAKE NO MEDICATIONS.

Napier, really sorry to hear this. Have no personal experience of this but know, in certain circumstance, miscarriages can be prevented by simply taking aspirin. Obviously you'll need to be checked by your doctor and since this is your 3rd, at least you'll be treated more seriously now. Good luck.

Hi Napier, so sorry to hear this. Here is a link to The Miscarriage Association - you may be able to find some information there. good luck at the doctors.

Hi Napier, I lost 2 myself at 6 to 8 weeks and asked why. The doctor said that pregnancy is such complex and delicate process that it is more surprising that the miscarraige rate is so low.

I was told that there was nothing I could have done to prevent it.

As referred to above by sb34 abd bossykate, there are certain conditions (weak cervix, auto immune type reactions) which are known causes and which are treatable.

I was also aware that high caffeine and alcohol intake could be a factor. (I was a bit of a boozer but try not to blame myself since what is done is done).

When I was pregnant for the third time I was so nervous but consoled myself slightly to know that in my area (and I think generally?) you have to have had 3 miscarriages IN A ROW to be referred to a specialist (since miscarriage is so common).

In then end (after some early bleeding) my lovely daughter was born this FEb.

I tell you all of this since it used to comfort me to hear fo people who had had a series of miscarriages but had gone on to give birth.

Lots of love to you.

SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR TWO LOSSES. IT?S SAD TO SAY BUT IT IS COMFORTING TO KNOW THAT SOMEONE ELSE UNDERSTANDS WHAT I AM GOING THROUGH. MY LOVED ONES AROUND ME NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN TO THEM. MY FIRST MISCARRIAGE I WAS ALMOST TWO MONTHS MY SECOND I WAS THREE MONTHS AND AT FIVE MONTHS THE BABY?S HEART BEAT FAILED. I HEARD OF SOME OF THE PREVENTIONS TO BE TAKEN THAT CAN CAUSE A MISCARRIAGE. I GUESS NOW I?LL HAVE TO SEE WHICH ONE PERTAINS TO ME. I PRAY THAT IT WILL BE AN EASY SOLUTION FOR ME. I AM GOING TO ASK THE DOCTOR WHAT YOU SUGGESTED. AT LEAST NOW I COULD GO TO THE DOCTOR A LITTLE MORE EDUCATED. THANK YOU SOOO MUCH. YOU DIDN?T ONLY HELP A LITTLE. TRUST ME.

BOSSYKATE
THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE WEB SITE. IT DID HELP A LOT. THANKS FOR THAT EXTRA STEP IN HELPING ME.

I AM SO SORRY TO HEAR OF YOUR LOSSES AS WELL. I WAS TOLD THE FIRST TWO TIMES ALSO THAT THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD HAVE DONE TO PREVENT IT. I HATED THEM FOR SAYING THAT. IF THERE WAS SOMETHING I COULD DO TO PREVENT IT, IT WOULD HAVE MADE IS SO MUCH EASIER TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I WAS AWARE THAT CAFFEINE AND ALCOHOL CAN CAUSE PROBLEMS BUT I ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT IT WOULD BE THE CASE TO CONSUME DURING A PREGNANCY. I NEED MY COFFEE IN THE MORNING AND NOW THAT IT IS THE SUMMER I LIKE AN ICE COFFEE DURING LUNCH. I AM NOT AN ALCOHOLIC BUT ON THE WEEKENDS I DO CONSUME BUT AS SOON AS I FOUND OUT I WAS PREGNANT I CUT IT OUT SPONTANEOUSLY. THE MORE I READ ABOUT CLEANING OUT THE BODY TO PREPARE FOR PREGNANCY THE MORE I FIND HOW IT IS IMPORTANT TO DO SO. YA SEE, I LOVE TO HEAR THAT. AFTER ALL THAT YOU BEEN THROUGH YOU HAVE A DAUGHTER. MAY GOD BLESS HER. THAT?S WONDERFUL. I DOES LIFT MY SPIRITS UP TO KNOW THAT THERE WILL BE A TIME WHEN GOD GIVES ME MY LITTLE ANGEL. I THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT IT ALL OF THIS. YOU WILL NEVER KNOW HOW MUCH IT MEANS TO ME.
