I certainly didn’t and I miss it! The only part of my body to become skinny and Im absolutely pissed off. Why did no one tell me about this?? And now I feel I can’t tell anyone else in case it’s just me.

Just use your fingers! Rub it in then there's no mess.

Hi op. I'd never heard of prolapse at 42. By 44 had no labia left, three prolapses.
By 46 a failed posterior prolapse repair.
At 48.i wet myself if I go for a walk any time between breakfast and bed. Ie. After any food and drink.

But on the plus side my vulva is pink again and not grey anymore! If you look. The skin goes grey without vaginal oestrogen.

And to the pp who said 'ladies be careful what you post'?

Do fuck off. I've stood in the office and discussed this. I'd go on national television and talk about it!

That was me-it was in reference to another thread that the hairy handed invaded

Im going through this now im 48 and im going to have to do something about it. Burning and uncomfortable and other symptoms :( Can you use the cream without progesterone? As im reluctant to go on full hrt for health reasons . Is it little to no side effects?? And you can use vagifem with the topical estrogen??

Edited

Yes estriol cream can be used either with Vagifem pessaries or in its own. It’s only absorbed where it’s put

I have wondered how little labia minora will women have left if they had them snipped and shaped pre-menopause.
Whilst women do vary in ‘mass’, the labia do have a function and unless someone is unfortunate enough to have vulval cancer or other disease I think hang on to your flaps.

I agree but too late, I had labiaplasty in my 20s purely for vanity reasons. Stupid of me but it doesn’t help that we’re taught to be so embarrassed by them. (Me and friends anyway) remember doing biology at school and thinking there must be something wrong with me because every diagram your shown shows a neat flap free one. And the piss taking from men (beef curtains/must have slept around to be that flappy etc) was mortifying throughout my teens and early twenties.
Even shows like embarrassing bodies, every single woman on there with sticky out labia was told.. yep not normal let’s cut them off.
It’s a brutal operation as well, mine was horrendously painful, worse than giving birth.

I’m really concerned by the use it or lose it philosophy, I’m single .

Then prescribe yourself a nice session of 'self care' a few times a week 😉

DerfelCadarn · 29/09/2026 10:24

I’m 44, I think my flaps are the same size as ever but in the last year or so my orgasms have vanished, whether with DP or going solo. I sometimes get a sort of nice warm sensation but not the explosions that used to come fairly easily and reliably. Is this part of perimenopause or just stress? I’m not really getting any other symptoms apart from more joint aches and slightly less tolerance of human beings (who I was never completely sold on anyway).

Forton26 · 29/09/2026 10:27

I’ve not read the full thread by i noticed the dryness about 5 years ago 41/42. I’ve managed it well with moisturisers (Yes or vagisil do a probiotic oat one for outer parts) and lubricant. I probably should ask for some topical oestrogen. Not currently on Hrt.

I developed atrophy while breastfeeding so when the pain and UTIs started up again I demanded HRT, wasn't going through that again.

Can you explain more about the breastfed led atrophy. Did it go back after you stopped?

SnakesandKnives · 29/09/2026 10:37

For those who are getting increased UTIs (which I regularly suffered from all through from teens to 40s (as did my mum so def some crap genes there)) Bladapure has been utterly amazing and I haven't had one since I started taking it. I'm sure - like every medicine/treatment - it won't work for everyone but god I wish I'd discovered it a long long time ago

We're not born with labia minora apparantely. They appear in puberty. And disappear with menopause.

It was a shock. One day, while washing, I noticed. Followed up with 10 minutes of scrabbling at my fanny looking for them.

LorenaWood · 29/09/2026 10:56

Does anyone use buscopan? Talking of oral sex someone asked about - I took some on holiday along with the vagirux pessaries and got them mixed up and my dh said are you ok down there it tastes weird 😂

they are identical!!!!!! The packets as well!

i thought at the time the applicator was broken as the tab didn't quite fit properly I had to force it in 🤦🏻‍♀️

I thought there was a higher risk of cancer if you only use oestrogen and have no progesterone and you still have a womb.

That's true for systemic HRT. But the topical cream can be used without progesterone. It's a much lower dose, and doesn't thicken the womb lining like the systemic sort does.

Have you been putting the gel on your boobs?! I know some women swear by it for smoothing their faces!

I thought this was not recommended

curious79 · 29/09/2026 11:09

I developed horrendous itching and it started to go as dry as a bucket of sand. I have to say HRT and my absolute saviour, Naydaya Victory Oil, have reversed the above.

Even if you aren’t having systemic HRT, you can start topical vagina oestrogen at any age. And it can be fundamental in preventing UTIs, a common cause of much misery and even death in older women.

Don’t accept your shrivelled up vag- it’ll turn on you!!

IdiotCat · 29/09/2026 11:22

I was shocked and scared about vaginal atrophy too .. NOBODY WARNED ME THAT WE DRIED OUT AND SHRIVELLED UP LIKE AN OLD LEAF.
Felt itchy, hot, sore all the time. UTIs every month. Labia and my lovely clitoris vanished!! Orgasms melted away :(
At 50 even sitting down and walking was painful. I didn't know what was wrong for months so I tried Canestan, and Vaginal BV treatments ... but eventually found a Meno board on FB that explained what was happening to my poor bits.
Finally took a look in the mirror and was shocked at the grey haggard thing reflected back :(
I was already on HRT, but had to tell my GP (male) that I needed local oestrogen too, as he seemed clueless.
Now 60 and all works OK. It will never be like my rampant 20s/30s but I'm grateful everything functions and feels comfortable.
For those asking about sex and oestrogen cream in the vadge, I asked the doc about this and he said the dose was so very small it wouldn't affect the man unless (in his words) 'he was in there for hours' LOL.
I insert mine last thing at night before bed. We've had sex after with no ill effects.
Also ... lube becomes important after 50! Stuff like YES OB and YES WB helps everything go smoother. I also use daily moisturisers like YES VM or vaginal hyaluronic gel like Hyalofemme.
