I certainly didn’t and I miss it! The only part of my body to become skinny and Im absolutely pissed off. Why did no one tell me about this?? And now I feel I can’t tell anyone else in case it’s just me.

Im going through this now im 48 and im going to have to do something about it. Burning and uncomfortable and other symptoms :( Can you use the cream without progesterone? As im reluctant to go on full hrt for health reasons . Is it little to no side effects?? And you can use vagifem with the topical estrogen??

Edited

You don't need progesterone - the dose in the creams/vaginal tablets is tiny, and largely not systemic at all (a bit can get absorbed at the start before your vaginal walls rebuild).

Everyone is different, at 73 my fanny is the same as ever, never been offered HRT, my orgasms are a little more elusive though.

If your orgasms are elusive then your fanny isn't the same as ever. You've probably got clitoral atrophy.

Branster · 29/09/2026 15:08

Tretinoin tubes look remarkably similar to vaginal oestrogen cream tubes.
But I am here to advise you from first hand personal experience: keep the tubes in different places so that you don’t ever use tretinoin in the wrong place. It stings a bit. These things happen 😂

Branster · 29/09/2026 15:09

What do you have to use for eyes @Tarkan ?

Sorry 😳😊

Thanks 🙂

This bit to the general thread
There are some very wierd people men about
Just to add as per the other thread if you are experiencing cystitis/ UTI symptoms good luck with getting the NHS to culture, its like winning the lottery look at your microbiome
In addition to the pessaries/ cream please think about some vaginal probiotics
You need oestrogen to maintain a healthy vaginal microbiome and the correct microbiome to utilise the oestrogen

Also lots of good greek yoghurt, cheese, fruit and raw veg, pickled things
It takes months to turn it round

Well having bought the Ovess but not got around to using it - thanks to this thread I did apply it this morning and the itching that I’ve had recently has gone away.
As don’t live with partner is easy to b avoid the days we don’t meet so well start to use regularly now -thank you wise ladies!!!!

What do you have to use for eyes @Tarkan ?

I’ve been told to do a warm compress then micellar water for now but if it continues then I’ve been told to get drops or blephaclean wipes to help so I’ll see what works best for me.

SnowflakeSmasher86 · 29/09/2026 15:48

Anyone else had a deleted PM? Presume that the pervs on the prowl. How sad do you have to be to patrol a menopause thread and DM posters about their shrivelled bits?!

momager22 · 28/09/2026 19:51

Im not there yet and reading this thread with much confusion.
How can a vagina get skinny?
Do you mean vagina or vulva ?
Does it get skinny or cavernous?

Smaller and very dry

feelingflushed · 29/09/2026 16:04

Skinny as in it’s less of a mound with plump lips. I would struggle to achieve a camel toe these days no matter how tight the trousers 😞

MurphysColeslaw · 29/09/2026 16:05

Is anyone taking those probiotics for vaginal flora?

I used optibac for women because when I first used oestrogen cream it caused a bit of irritation. Apparently as oestrogen drops naturally your vag becomes less acid (good) and more alkaline (bad) which means suddenly adding oestrogen can cause temporary irritation.
It worked really well. I used them for about 2 months. I even bought some vaginal pH testing sticks. My vag is now nicely acidic and plump 😂

Tarkan · 29/09/2026 13:39

I’ve just been for my eye test and found out today that it’s not just your bits that dry up thanks to menopause and HRT. I’ve been given a leaflet about blepharitis and instructions on different things to use to keep my eyes moist and free of irritation. The joys.

That sounds back to front @Tarkan , as far as I know!

HRT prevents dry eyes and 'your other bits' drying out.

Your optician sounds a bit confused perhaps?

Gettingbysomehow · 29/09/2026 16:18

Im 64 and havent had any problems at all other than 100% loss of libido which I dont actually want back. I dont have a partner though.

JinglingSpringbells · 29/09/2026 16:19

Tarkan · 29/09/2026 14:20

True but my optician did say the HRT makes it happen more apparently. I’ve been shopping now so I’ll be moist in all the necessary places now at least. 🤣

Although sounds like I need to go back for stuff for ear wax soon too. 😫

I don't think so.

I had dry eyes pre - HRT and it cleared them up.

It doesn't make sense otherwise as HRT just puts your hormones back to where they were before menopause.

Maybe there are some exceptions.

Yes Ive been on them for 3 months and will continue now for life

ArcangelaTarabotti · 29/09/2026 16:31

My libido is through the roof because newish partner (about 18months) is very skilled. In fact having vaginal orgasms for the first time ( never with other partners including husband of 30 years. . But I was so dispirited when we met because of the pain and UTIs. None at all now and no need for lube (which the doc had said was nevessary)
By the way partner is 60. Did wonder initially if he was secretly using Viagra as he was/is always ready, but turns out not… I think he and his late wife must have had a very regular sex life (not asked!!!!) and so he kept in practice? 😂

RosaNovella · 29/09/2026 16:36

Just to say re dry bits and eyes
Oestrogen is in every part of your body
Low oestrogen causes soooo many symptoms than no one associates with menopause
VA and dryness, itching, dry eyes, dry mouth, vertigo, hot flushes, cold flushes, headaches, joint pain, anxiety, palpitations, poor digestion and poor oral health
My forrin dentist asked me if Im on HRT as my gums and teeth are so healthy, he said its vital for oral health
Hideous dry mouth was way way worse than the VA
It drove me doolally
HRT will have to be prised out of my cold dead hands

SnowflakeSmasher86 · 29/09/2026 16:39

Happy for you @ArcangelaTarabotti He sounds like a keeper!

Theeyeballsinthesky · 29/09/2026 18:04

Just to say with the "use it or lose it"

no woman should force herself to have painful penetrative sex on this basis

the key thing is the blood flow to the vagina so use it or lose it can absolutely be masturbation

Tarkan · 29/09/2026 18:08

Maybe she did get it mixed up, I have no idea as all of this is new to me anyway. And tbh all I was thinking was “great, another thing to add to the list of stuff that’s wrong with me”. 🙈🤣 It does explain why my eyes have felt slightly itchy at times recently tbf.

Timely thread. 45 and started HRT earlier this year. Recently started getting itchy flaps at night when in luteal phase, and think I'm drier than normal.

Anyone else now doing kegel exercises whilst reading this?!

Omg I've had the itchies (particularly at night, why is that?) and stupidly, hadn't realised it was related to perimenopause, as what I've read just seemed to talk about dryness, which I haven't particularly been bothered by. Thank God for Mumsnet minge-winge threads 😆
