Menopace - does it make you gain weight?

NewPlumCat · 21/03/2025 12:02

Hi,
I'm thinking of taking Menopace as I'm postmenopausal. I've read weight gain is a possible side effect?. I really want to take it but I'm a bit anxious as it might make me gain more weight as I've already put on weight during the transition?
Any advice and suggestions will be really appreciated x

I can't say much more.

Either you take the plunge and give it a go or you carry on as you are.

I think it might be a good idea to talk to your GP and get some perspective on the risks and side effects.

It's not helping you to focus on the negative things you've read. focus on reading medical websites where the facts are discussed.

https://www.balance-menopause.com/subject/hrt/

https://www.balance-menopause.com/menopause-library/10-faq-about-hrt/

You may not have any side effects and all the time you're worrying about trying it, you could be on it and feeling better.

Thank you so much for your message. I did speak to 2 GPS at my surgery but they both said there's a risk if i go on HRT and that really made me even more anxious. I really want to take it as the anxiety and depression is making my life very miserable, I've been suffering for more than 3 year's and I can't bare it anymore.
God bless you for all your support x🙏

Has it helped you with yourself symptoms? x

It has helped with the symptoms, probably not as much as HRT but for various reasons I am reluctant to try HRT, so trying to see if I can manage without it.

What kind of risks did your GP talk about?

I can see you're in a real dilemma but it also sounds as if you may have health anxiety?

On balance, doctors agree that for most women HRT benefits outweigh the risks.

There are no risks using HRT for 5 years if you are otherwise healthy. There is no added risk of breast cancer using transdermal estrogen and micronised progesterone for at least 5 years.

Maybe learn about the protective benefits of HRT to your bones and heart? It might reassure you.

Kindly, you're overthinking this and tying yourself in knots

happy2025 · 24/03/2025 20:26

I have been using HRT for 3 years and it has saved my life, sanity, health and probably my marriage. I still get occasional night sweats but other issues are under control. I have been thinking of adding a supplement like menopace to see if that can bring down the night sweats. I don’t want to increase my HRT dosage due to history of fibroids. But since I’ve hit 47, the weight gain has been unreal. The same diet/exercise that helped me lose 3 stone is no longer even able to keep my weight stable! I’m now considering intermittent fasting along with menopause.
menopause is so horrible!

Thank you for your message and letting me know. I understand how you feel and completely sympathise for you. Unfortunately I don't want to go on HRT due to the risks but I am suffering with severe symptoms and can't deal with it x

Thank you for your message. My doctors told me there was a risk of BC if I go on HRT and they've wanted me to go to Holland and barrett to get supplements to help me with the symptoms. I did get supplements from Holland and barrett and was talking them for a year l, but they haven't helped me
I am suffering with very severe depression and anxiety and its causing me a lot of distress x

It would really help if you did some reading around HRT yourself to put the small risk into perspective.

If your GP was refusing to give you HRT that's not right. They ought to tell you the risk and it's as above- that's from a medical research (maybe your GP doesn't know?)

But if you said you were too afraid to use it, they were right to suggest herbal products.

Did you read the links I left you? You've got two threads going, both saying and asking the same thing.

I left two links to HRT so it's really worth reading them.

You're either going to have to take the plunge and try it, or stay as you are and experiment with herbal things.

I’ve been doing intermittent fasting along with HRT, it’s been remarkable, I’ve got most of my old body back. Just wish I hadn’t been so eager in donating my favourite jeans to charity 🤦‍♀️, they’d fit me again.

Hi, thank you for your message. It really means a lot to me, all your support. I haven't read the links yet but will do, but either way the fear of BC and other risks about HRT are frightening me. I have read similar links to the ones you've sent me but I'm still too scared to go on HRT. And herbal supplements have not worked for me.
My life is a complete misery and the anxiety and depression and intrusive thoughts are so debilitating that they are affecting my health and wellbeing and I've lost myself completely. I can't be happy, even look forward to anything or the future. I really need help x God bless you 🙏

Maybe you need to seek help for your anxiety? Your thoughts aren't helping.

The medical evidence says that hrt is safe (using micronised progesterone) for at least 5 years.

There are no other risks if you are otherwise healthy.

Go to your GP and maybe ask for counselling or CBT?

I genuinely can't understand that if you have read evidence that says it's safe, you choose to ignore that. It is your choice not to use HRT.

You're making a decision based on mis-information. Modern, body-identical HRT does not cause blood clots or strokes. It does not increase your own risk. The risk of BC doesn't exist for at least 5 years.

All the best with it.

Do you drink alcohol? This is a risk factor for BC
Are you overweight? This is risk factor for BC
Do you exercise? This is a risk factor for BC

There are lots of risks for BC higher than HRT
Nothing comes without risk.

Its up to you to assess the benefits against risk based on correct information

Hi, thank you for your message. No I don't drink alcohol. I have put a bit of weight on due to menopause but I generally eat very healthy and am looking after myself. I don't eat fatty foods or sugary foods like biscuits, chocolates or crisps x

You can get it from your GP.

Thousands of women in the UK are using it.

It's the type that is normally prescribed.

SallyWD · 26/03/2025 12:11

Moderate Alcohol consumption increases the risks of breast cancer by 30-50%, a statistic that’s shocking. How many women know this? Many of the people around me drink, and quite heavily for females, do they realise the risks are more than a hangover. I’m asked how I manage to go out, not drink, and still enjoy myself 🤔

HRT scares have been around for decades and are a disservice to women. Ask your Dr for estrogen patches and Utrogestan (this is the body identical progesterone which is required if you have a womb). I personally get on better with the patches and medroxyprogesterone, I’m very intolerant to progesterone, unfortunately. It’s taken me 3 years to find a regime that suits me, I’m fine with estrogen in any form, it’s the progesterone that is awful, I get the most horrendous PMT. I now realise this was the problem when I tried the contraceptive pill many years ago, the dreaded progesterone.

Honestly, my life would be pure misery without HRT, and I don’t believe I’d have a marriage left. I feel wonderful on it.

Thank you. My GP did prescribe me patches but I haven't used them. I am wondering if they are the same as transdermal estrogen and the progesterone? I am sending you a picture of them to see if they are the same? x

Yes that’s transdermal oestrogen.

It’s usually prescribed with progesterone of some sort?
