Magnesium Glycinate

I'm very sensitive to taking anything and had to come off HRT because it made me feel awful.

My aches, sleeplessness and anxiety had returned. So I tried some magnesium. Just slept through the night and DIDN'T wake up with racing thoughts at 5am for the first time in several weeks!

I think I'm less achy too. Hope it lasts. 👏

@JacketPotatoFoodOfTheGods I take gycinate in the evening and malate in the morning and find it helps with feeling less anxious during the day and aids sleep at night.

ssd · 24/09/2024 10:03

@schloss , do you take 2 magnesium tablets then? Is this not too much?

Sorry, im getting confused

schloss · 24/09/2024 10:06

@ssd I take 2 malate in the morning and 2 glycinate in the evening.

JacketPotatoFoodOfTheGods · 24/09/2024 13:42

@Heatherbell1978 yes the racing thoughts are horrible.

Interesting about the histamine. I'm very congested in the mornings. But that gets worse on HRT.

@ssd this is the same as @Heartbreaktuna's product, but a bit cheaper. Both are magnesium glycinate at a dose of 100mg magnesium per tablet.

pinkhousesarebest · 24/09/2024 17:48

I combine it with L-theanine and it has changed my life.

Trumpetoftheswan2 · 24/09/2024 18:50

I've been taking magnesium glycinate but with the cocktail of supplements I take with dinner - Menopace, B vits and Evening Primrose. Still insomniac. I'm going to try taking it before bed tonight and will report back.

What's the L-theanine for?

Where did you buy it? I take magnesium but its from boots and is just called magnesium 375mg. Is this different to the glycinate stuff?

I take the one from Boots 375mg too, its Bioglan magnesium, not sure if its the same as yours, but mine helps a lot, i think it has 4 forms of magnesium including glicinate and it definitely helps with insomnia. Sometimes i take 1 and a half tablets

I am just starting on the perimenopause journey nice and early at 39 🤨 and having always slept well was really finding sleep onset difficult and can identify with pp in relation to that jumping with a start feeling and restless legs. After reading up on magnesium started taking nutrition geeks sleep bundle a couple of weeks ago and part of it is magnesium glycinate and I have noticed a significant positive difference. Also rolled back my last coffee of the day to lunchtime rather than mid afternoon, which is a bit sad for me as I love my coffee but necessary!

brimfulofpacha · 24/09/2024 20:08

I've just ordered the magnesium and also vitamin d with k from nutrition geeks. Thanks MN! My sleep has been dreadful, weight will not shift no matter what, along with constant random periods and spotting, intense moments of anxiety, and possible hot flushes (I can't tell if work is just stuffy though!) so I've been assuming I'm in Peri at 41.

I've also cut back my cups of tea so my last one is now a decaf brew 3pm at the latest, and I'll try to have herbal teas instead. Last night and tonight I've had the pukka night tea and it made me feel quite relaxed and sleepy right away. I have the start of a cold so feel quite sleepy and dozy anyway but thought I'd mention it here in case it helps anyone else!

I've been looking into magnesium for the last few days, it seems the magnesium glycinate is the one to take, but I can't find it anywhere Superdrug and Holland and Barrett are out of stock and my local large Boots don't stock it.
Also vitamin D3 is better taken with K2 all the above shops sell it in a spray. Has anyone tried it. ?

CoConut22 · 24/09/2024 20:48

I’m 54 and have taken magnesium glycinate for the last few months. Like OP, it helped me from the first evening I took it. Would not be without now. I sleep so much better and have more energy in the day times.

TheMousePipes · 24/09/2024 20:55

Also a firm fan of magnesium. I’ve just (today) started a peri supplement as well to see if I can shift the flushes and bloating.

(I don't tend to order supplements from Amazon as issues with fakes/old stock.)

The Better You D3/K2 spray is excellent; it's on a 3 for 2 at Superdrug atm.

Yes, that is the one I have, by Better You (the 3,000 one). Sainsburys has started selling it near me but I used to buy it from Boots.

Ohyeahwaitaminute · 24/09/2024 23:04

@Heartbreaktuna I take that one too.

Batterseapowerstation · 24/09/2024 23:06

Had deregged (and probably will again imminently) but just wanted to post to say what has really helped me with getting back to sleep/calming racing thoughts is discovering all the Alister Cooke “Letter from America” episodes on BBC Sounds/podcast apps. His delivery is like a sleep tonic. Obviously this has no relevance to preventing waking up or magnesium but as soon as I wake up now and have any suspicion my brain is going to start fizzing, I either put one on at a very low volume (if DH is away) or put one headphone in and it sends me right back to sleep. I can wake 4 or 5 times a night but am not stressed about it now as I know it’ll only be momentarily. Just thought I’d post of the off chance it helped anyone else.

It was Healthy Metal. They sent me a free sample of 5 sachets. They are powder you dissolve in water. I prefer not to take pills. Took it before bed.

Could just be chance it worked I suppose. But I have been waking up feeling crap at 5 every morning fir so long now. I'm delighted to have broken the cycle.

I also respond very immediately to HRT regarding the aches and pains.

Will take again tonight & report back.

I don’t think it was just chance.

I'm considering buying the magnesium glycinate from Superdrugs along with the menopause supplements (link below) that also contains magnesium but am wondering if I'll be taking too much magnesium each day.

Anyone taking this combination?
