Ovestin cream

Hi. I’ve just been prescribed Ovestin cream by my gp for vaginal burning and soreness and urinary frequency which feels like a UTI. ((I did actually have a urine infection last month but that has cleared with antibiotics).
Whilst I’m hoping the Ovestin will help with me with the symptoms I’ve described above, I’m worried that it will make my bits swell up. Am I overthinking this?

In one word yes. Ovestin will help with the soreness, it may take a while depending on how long you have been sore, but it will help. You can use inside and outside.

Thank you for responding. Driving myself demented. Been stinging for about three years. Was prescribed Vagifem but I had a reaction to that that I didn’t like. Praying the Ovestin will be the answer x

It does not make your bits swell up.

HerodAntipasti · 04/03/2023 00:57

It’s good stuff. Very soothing.

ItBeFivePotatoesHigh · 04/03/2023 07:26

It doesn't cause swelling.

I've been using it for approx 3 months and had relief from my symptoms after the first few weeks of using it.

Tidsleytiddy · 04/03/2023 09:25

Thank you all so much. It’s bloody awful so I’m starting Monday 🙏🏻 x

Sorry, is it ok to ask what your symptoms were?

JinglingSpringbells · 04/03/2023 12:08

@Maltybiscuit You can buy vaginal estrogen OTC now at pharmacies if you are over 50 - it's called Gina. It's a pessary you insert. The cream can be used inside and outside- all depends on what your main symptoms are.

Maltybiscuit · 04/03/2023 12:23

Thanks Jingling I'm under 50 so I guess I couldn't get that. I really want to see a nurse or a gp to at least have an examination, I've tried anusol, canestan products and ovex for threadworms just in case ,.but still suffering 🥺

Extremely dry both inside my vagina and my whole vulva area; really thin & delicate skin; and general soreness/sensitivity. Now, my thin skin has plumped back out and I've no dryness anymore, and no soreness either.

I'd also recommend switching to using Yes wash, if you haven't done so already. I found any soap at all aggravated it.

I don’t use any soap at all. Last time I did that the stinging was unbearable. I just shower and never use the bath.

It's awful isn't it. I hope you get sorted soon. It does take effect pretty quickly once you start using it. Good luck.

I had exactly your symptoms - burning, itchy, repeat UTIs in particular urethritis rather than cystitis, got to the stage DH hardly dared take his trousers off.

Ovestin has been transformational. Plump, juicy, and no UTIs. And from memory the effect was very quick in deed - a couple of weeks at most.

cestlavielife · 04/03/2023 14:45

Miracle cream. do not wait . Start today.

Rumourhasit1 · 04/03/2023 15:00

Do you know if Ovesten can be prescribed by Nurse Practitioners as well? For about 6 months now I have issues with my vulva area and itchiness and dryness. I've noticed a few other peri- menopause symptoms but this one is driving me crazy. Thanks

That’s great to hear. I did laugh about the trousers 🤣 So hoping it makes feel normal again. It’s stinging, burning like a constant UTI, needing to wee and now it’s made my bladder over active. Just really horrible.

Is nobody else having a supply issue with Ovestin cream? It's been unavailable here (north east) since around Christmas time and I've been switched to a pessary which I don't like as much

Tidsleytiddy · 04/03/2023 15:25

I believe you can buy it from online pharmacies

OP posts:
margegunderson · 04/03/2023 22:09

Don't wait till Monday! And don't use soap on anything pink.
