magic tips to remove residue from HRT patches?

I have been on Evorel patches for a week, they are super-sticky and definitely aren't going anywhere when attached.

But pulling them off leaves a sticky border around the edge of where the patch was which is really, really had to remove and attracts all sorts of fluff and fibres from inside trousers and underwear. Have tried scrubbing with soap to little effect apart from making my skin sore.

There must be a magic tip or trick to dissolve this stuff easily??

I was going to start a thread on this, as I wish I knew the answer - I’m 4 weeks in and have got an assortment of residue left! Like you I’ve tried scrubbing, but it isn’t doing the trick.

Hopefully someone will come along with a solution.

I don't know about HRT patches but I did IVF and lots of women in the community had to use estrogen patches which left residue - apparently coconut oil works wonders!

I have googled and lots of people are using nail varnish remover, but that seems very harsh. Want to know what works before going out and buying a huge range of body lotion, baby oil or whatever else.

Ooh, I’ve got some coconut oil, so will give that a go.

Nail varnish remover sounds way too harsh!

TickleMyFanny · 14/01/2022 09:13

You need zoff wipes

SpindleyCrow · 14/01/2022 09:15

Baby oil and a cotton wool pad definitely works. That’s what I use.

NashvilleQueen · 14/01/2022 09:16

Hand sanitiser prob works

Brunilde · 14/01/2022 09:17

I used baby oil when doing ivf. Works perfectly.

linerforlife · 14/01/2022 09:19

Yes you need oil - even olive oil will remove them. Do it once the residue is softened after a warm shower and massage the oil into the residue. It'll start to peel.

MarshmallowFondant · 14/01/2022 09:19

Brilliant thank you, we have lots of surplus sanitiser kicking about will try that first. I don't really want to use single-use wipe if I can find a cheaper and less plastic-y alternative.

I use eye make up remover. Comes off really easily. Also comes off really easily using one if those cheap body puffs in the shower

CorrBlimeyGG · 14/01/2022 09:21

Baby oil, or one of the medical adhesive remover sprays/ wipes mentioned above.

Tidypidy · 14/01/2022 09:29

Lift plus spray is brilliant and doesn't irritate skin. We have it on prescription to remove my son's cannulas and CGM. Otherwise baby oil works well.

I just scrub with the shower puff thing. So much easier when I had tablets but changed due to regular long haul flights - well in the days when you could travel that is.

Myfanwyprice · 15/01/2022 10:42

I tried coconut oil this morning, it wasn’t very successful, but thinking maybe it needs something abrasive with it, so will try it with a flannel or shower puff.

Doomscrolling · 15/01/2022 10:43

Baby oil works a treat

WhereAreWeNow · 15/01/2022 17:31

Baby oil then scrub with a damp, rough flannel.

bellabride · 15/01/2022 19:26

Baby oil on a cotton make up remover pad.
Or Zoff adhesive remover.

Toddlerteaplease · 15/01/2022 20:12

Alcohol gel. Or we use Appeel to remove dressings at work.

Justkeeppedaling · 15/01/2022 20:43

Butter is good for getting the residue from ordinary plasters off. Have you tried that?

PrincessPaws · 15/01/2022 21:00

Zoff is amazing. We always had a bottle in the cupboard when I was a kid, but now it looks like you can only get wipes. I always pop it back in the packet and use it a couple of times. Get them from Amazon

Hi there
Forget the oil, the scrubbing and the cotton buds...it's easy! You know how when there's a bit of Blutack left on the wall and you rub a bigger bit over the top to remove it? Just take the patch you've just peeled off and use the sticky edges to remove the square of black, fluffy residue left on the skin. I do it every time I remove a patch - takes about 30 seconds and no fuss, oil, nail varnish remover, alcohol spray or anything else. Good luck!

humblemeep · 16/05/2023 23:19

I've been using patches for a few years. I rub coconut oil in after removing the patch and then scrub well with a shower flower in the shower the next day, it removes all the residue, or if a bit is left I rub it off with my fingers.

LunaNorth · 16/05/2023 23:23

Zoff wipes.

AtrociousCircumstance · 16/05/2023 23:29

Soap and exfoliating gloves.
