Covid jab triggered Peri M

On the day of my vaccine 12th April my period started in the morning. This worried me a little and I disclosed it to the nurse who said it was fine. Two weeks later I started getting night sweats, hot flushes and headaches. My period was due on 10th May and I am 6 days late which is unusual. Anyone else experienced a sudden start to the menopause triggered by the Vaccine. I am 47.

I'm comforted to know your period returned and peri symptoms disappeared. I'm 36 and am having my second lot of menopause symptoms. First set after my first jab ended after 3 months and I'm currently going through the same after my second jab. I'm hoping my symptoms disappear again soon. I'm 36 so won't be too pleased if I have an early menopause.

It's known that both the flu and flu jabs can upset cycles. Covid as with some other viruses has been shown particularly to affect womens cycles. The effects can last from between 1-6 months max.

There's observational evidence that women on hrt due to hysterectomies get a return of symptoms after covid. They think that it somehow affects the oestrogen receptors.

As I said upthread; a Gp I know said in 2021 many women under his care found periods were affected by jabs which did settle but he also said it could even take as long as 6 months. He also said he'd still recommend the jab.

If you're nearing peri menopause (late 30s / 40s) it's possible you're effected enough to experience peri symptoms but it could settle.

My experience of peri was very up and down for the first few years. Periods of Stress definitely made things worse, often in the following cycle.

I really hope this is the case for me. It's not like I get peri symptoms after these jabs I go full blown menopause. My fsh levels when taken a few weeks ago were 56. This is after having regular cycles before the jab. It just feels an extreme reaction. Just praying it's temporary.

I know many women experience changes to their cycles but why do I get menopause symptoms. Why does it seem to stop me ovulating for a time.

After my first jab it lasted 3 months and then I went back to normal. I'm on month 4 now after my second jab. Hoping and praying I return to normal soon. I'm 36 and we had been trying for a baby. I was pregnant twice in the year between my 2 jabs but unfortunately miscarried.

I was showing signs of peri pre 3rd jab. Full meno symptoms started as soon as had that last jab. No period still a year later. Dreadful night sweats, hot flushes, brain fog etc

Have you been having hot flashes etc for the whole year?

I have also had this experience after the jabs but mine seems to to last a short time then go away. My hot flashes have stopped now and I've just started spotting so I suspect a period is on the way. Will go and have my FSH levels checked again. I have been referred to a specialist.

I know they say that menopause is official once you've gone a year without a period. But if it was vaccine triggered I'm not sure if it would be permanent for you. Are you of that age? Might be worth asking for a referral to a specialist so they can run tests etc.
have you been given any HRT or anything?

I'm 36.

No.

It is not possible that your symptoms are linked to the vaccine.

Take a pregnancy test?

Rubbish

its been reported by many women that their menstrual cycles have been affected by the covid vaccine. It absolutely could be a factor

The survey that the OP linked shows that the effect on menstrual cycles that have been reported is for a very small % of women have a delay of LESS THAN 1 DAY on the start of their period. The length of the period was not affected.

*Results Most people (n=15 713; 80.08%) were younger than 35 years, from the UK (n=6222; 31.71%), US and Canada (28.59%), or Europe (33.55%). Two thirds (9929 (66.48%) of 14 936) of the vaccinated cohort received the Pfizer-BioNTech (BNT162b2) covid-19 vaccine, 17.46% (n=2608) received Moderna (mRNA-1273), 9.06% (n=1353) received Oxford-AstraZeneca (ChAdOx1 nCoV-19), and 1.89% (n=283) received Johnson & Johnson (Ad26.COV2.S). Individuals who were vaccinated had a less than one day adjusted increase in the length of their first and second vaccine cycles, compared with individuals who were not vaccinated (0.71 day increase (99.3% confidence interval 0.47 to 0.96) for first dose; 0.56 day increase (0.28 to 0.84) for second dose). The adjusted difference was larger in people who received two doses in a cycle (3.70 days increase (2.98 to 4.42)). One cycle after vaccination, cycle length was similar to before the vaccine in individuals who received one dose per cycle (0.02 day change (99.3% confidence interval −0.10 to 0.14), but not yet for individuals who received two doses per cycle (0.85 day change (99.3% confidence interval 0.24 to 1.46)) compared with unvaccinated individuals. Changes in cycle length did not differ by the vaccine’s mechanism of action (mRNA, adenovirus vector, or inactivated virus). Menses length was unaffected by vaccination.

Conclusions Covid-19 vaccination is associated with a small and likely to be temporary change in menstrual cycle length but no change in menses length*

What has not been done is any scientific research on the reason for this less than 1 day delay. There could be lots of reasons. Around the time of the starting of the vaccine roll out, many people were literally terrified of being vaccinated. So many unfounded rumours were going round, including the rumour that you’d be thrown into perimenopause!

How patronising are you. The link between the covid vaccine and changes to women’s menstrual cycle has been reported by over 30,000 women and that’s just in the UK. The government says that isn’t enough evidence to prove a link. 🙄 I wonder how many men would need to report an issue to be taken seriously.

I’ve had three covid vaccines and even given it to my child but I’d never be so arrogant and misinformed as to deny the side effects on others.

@MixedUpChameleon Yes I'm post 50 and was peri before. But 11 months on from my covid jab I still have full on menopause symptoms and have resorted to HRT

Oh ok fair enough. I think the jab effects hormones in such a way that it can bring on these symptoms quite drastically.

Feetache · 31/10/2022 07:15

I had symptoms that I put down to the jab. Hot flashes especially. Very strong ones. But they never went away and then I got all manner of other symptoms. By 6 -8 months on I was feeling not great all day everyday. I felt 100. HRT is finally helping

Hi I had the 2nd Covid Vaccine and normal periods until then. Immediately had periods stop for 4 months and hot flushes and very very severe pain. With a family history of Ovarian cancer I was given an ultrasound scan - no clear issues were found which was a relief - but lining was very thick as if I would be just about to have a period. No periods for another 4 months and then they have re-started and fortunately my hot flushes and poor sleep sorted it's self out.
No one is prepared to consider that it might be related to the Covid vaccine and this is not being reported as if it might be...so the research in this area can only be one sided.
