Covid jab triggered Peri M

Scarlet40 · 16/05/2021 23:48

On the day of my vaccine 12th April my period started in the morning. This worried me a little and I disclosed it to the nurse who said it was fine. Two weeks later I started getting night sweats, hot flushes and headaches. My period was due on 10th May and I am 6 days late which is unusual. Anyone else experienced a sudden start to the menopause triggered by the Vaccine. I am 47.

I think having Covid tipped me into peri. No symptoms prior. I didn’t think to yellow card it but I will. Covid also gave me white hair!

Knockonwood · 23/02/2022 13:48

Slothtoes* How old are you if you don't mind me asking.

Choppingonions · 23/02/2022 13:59

This is tough. The OP would certainly become perimenopausal at some stage soon. Many women who have the jab at this stage will develop it just like those who haven't. In that sense it's not pathology but a natural process. However I would be very concerned for the poster on the thread who is only 35. Having been through an artificial medically induced menopause myself, I can confirm you will want to take HRT immediately and avoid loss of bone density at such as early age.

Choppingonions · 23/02/2022 14:01

But let's not forget that living with a group of other women or just drinking different water can radically delay or hasten a bleed. That is not terribly significant.

Slothtoes · 23/02/2022 14:12

I’m 43.

WarriorN · 23/02/2022 15:42

Panay (and a Gp i know) did say effects it would only last 3-6 cycles/ months.

But if you're close to peri anyway it might seem that that's the trigger. I'm my case it did push me to seek hrt as it's the first time I'd had hot flushes. But had been feeling hot at night and occasional phases of insomnia for a couple of years.

The problem with peri I've found is that it waxes and wanes a lot anyway at first.

WarriorN · 23/02/2022 15:47

Just had Covid and I feel it's knocked me back on peri symptoms despite being on hrt

Same. I was feeling more settled on HRT. Got covid and now sleepless nights, night sweats, very emotional etc - the tearfulness is something other women have noticed too.
Knockonwood · 23/02/2022 18:20

I caught covid around the 10th of January this year, and I'm still experiencing night sweats as well as the other things I mentioned. It's difficult to know if it was catching covid or the vaccine for me as I had my booster 2 weeks before I caught covid.

MixedUpChameleon · 01/10/2022 15:35

Has anyone got any updates for this thread? Be good to see some real life experiences and whether they rectified themselves over time?

RosieRooster83 · 01/10/2022 15:37

My daughter (18) hasn't been right with her periods since having the vaccines. She gets one every 6 months if that. Before the vaccine she was quite regular and heavy.

yaboreme · 01/10/2022 15:41

So bizarre reading this.

My periods have not been the same since having the vaccines never really put the 2 together.

I have recently had hormone levels checked because of the irregularities, so will see what the outcome is.

I'm 35.

RainBow725 · 01/10/2022 15:50

I've had x3 covid vaccines and covid twice. They all messed with the timing of my periods.

TeaCosyApplePie · 01/10/2022 15:50

I started with classes peri-menopause type symptoms after the first jab. My cycles are much longer and more painful and the night sweats and memory loss has been awful. I'm only in my 30s. Been waiting for it to settle down but a year and a half later it's still the same.

Sorry to hear that. Have you had your FSH levels checked?

Mine went up to 27 after first vaccine then settled back down. I had the second and they've gone up to 56. Time will tell if they go back down again or that's me in the menopause now.

I'm 36.

What jab did you have @Scarlet40

I had moderna. Which has triggered menopause both times. First time it was temporary. Just waiting to see if it's temporary this time as well

Whatwouldscullydo · 01/10/2022 17:15

I started with early and luckily fairly mild symptoms after the first jab. I have no confidence in anyone in healthcare being honest or informed about this as womens healthcare especially reproductive health is shocking . Amd covid vaccines seemed to be one of the very few drugs that no one is allowed to say and eveeyone refuses to believe there's anything remotely negative about Needless to say I didnt have any other jabs. Nor did i give them to my dds.

I'll never know if it would have happened anyway but I regret ever getting it. Especially as I think I had covid before it was such a huge thing and despite feeling rough for a couple of days I dosbt need any further time off work besides a day or 2. And I'd take it again over this tbh.

Started with early and mild menopause's symptoms do you mean? Triggered by the jab?

Whatwouldscullydo · 01/10/2022 17:24

Yes. I had put if getting the jab for this very reason. I had a really bad feeling . And immediately regretted getting it.

QuebecBagnet · 01/10/2022 17:27

I’m not being funny because I’ve also become peri menopausal in the last 18months…..since having 3x covid jabs. But at my age I’m putting it down to my age.

Scarlet40 · 01/10/2022 17:32

I had Pfizer. I was told by GP and people on this forum there was no link. Article released yesterday shows I knew there was a link. I had no period for 3 months and peri menopause symptoms then it returned and symptoms disappeared. We know our own bodies and to be told it was a coincidence was frustrating.
Currently started the peri menopause 2 months ago naturally this time!!

I'm comforted to know your period returned and peri symptoms disappeared. I'm 36 and am having my second lot of menopause symptoms. First set after my first jab ended after 3 months and I'm currently going through the same after my second jab. I'm hoping my symptoms disappear again soon. I'm 36 so won't be too pleased if I have an early menopause.

Cameleongirl · 01/10/2022 17:40

I’m about to have my 4th Modena and at 48, I’m definitely perimenopausal already!

Strangely, the first three didn’t affect my cycle at all, I just had a sore arm. Perhaps it doesn’t affect you the same way if you’re already going through it.

It's known that both the flu and flu jabs can upset cycles. Covid as with some other viruses has been shown particularly to affect womens cycles. The effects can last from between 1-6 months max.

There's observational evidence that women on hrt due to hysterectomies get a return of symptoms after covid. They think that it somehow affects the oestrogen receptors.

As I said upthread; a Gp I know said in 2021 many women under his care found periods were affected by jabs which did settle but he also said it could even take as long as 6 months. He also said he'd still recommend the jab.

If you're nearing peri menopause (late 30s / 40s) it's possible you're effected enough to experience peri symptoms but it could settle.

My experience of peri was very up and down for the first few years. Periods of Stress definitely made things worse, often in the following cycle.
