Covid jab triggered Peri M

Scarlet40 · 16/05/2021 23:48

On the day of my vaccine 12th April my period started in the morning. This worried me a little and I disclosed it to the nurse who said it was fine. Two weeks later I started getting night sweats, hot flushes and headaches. My period was due on 10th May and I am 6 days late which is unusual. Anyone else experienced a sudden start to the menopause triggered by the Vaccine. I am 47.

I'm 44 and have missed two periods now since my AZ jab. I'm convinced I'm peri but I did think it was appearing before my jab two as I missed 1 period a few months back.

Heelsofsteel · 26/06/2021 15:00

For people in their thirties I don’t think it’s sufficient to say it would have happened anyway though.

ForeverFloating · 26/06/2021 15:04

My period after my first dose of AZ started within days, 2 weeks early, they have been all over the place since and extremely painful and heavy. I was like clock work pre vaccination. Don’t take any contraception either, I’ve heard several women notice a change to periods after the jab.

JT01 · 23/09/2021 23:31

I had my first phizer 8 days ago and for the last few days I’ve been having terrible hot flushes. I’m 37!! I’ve had 3 reccurrent miscarriages 2018, 2019 & March this year (I’m lucky enough to have 3 lovely children) but would love another. My last period was late & extremely light but kind of put it down to stress as was waiting on my period for blood tests for fertility. Do you think this is it for me? Early menopause?

Cameleongirl · 23/09/2021 23:43

I’ve just turned 47 and am double-jabbed with Modena. It didn’t affect my periods, I’m still regular as clockwork. I know I’m perimenopause though and I’d be surprised if you weren’t prior to the vaccine, we’re the right age. But the number of women reporting menstrual problems is definitely alarming. I was one of the lucky ones.

dailydisco · 23/09/2021 23:51

I've had both AZ vaccinations. Since the first my periods changed. It's months after my second and I have symptoms of menopause at 38. Was regular as clockwork before.
Extremely worried.

CookieCrunch123 · 23/09/2021 23:54

I had severe menstrual changes and all sorts of weird symptoms (similar to pregnancy- extreme fatigue, very sore boobs, spots. Brain fog, very early and very long periods) after my second Pfizer jab for over 2 months. Drs have done lots of tests but all came back fine. I’m definitely improved now though compared to month 1. Just waiting to see how month 3 will be.

Frazzled50 · 24/09/2021 01:36

I’ve been peri’ for a good few years now and had my first jab around the middle of Jan two days after my period had finished. Feb had usual period then struck down with COVID in March (around due date of period) but red letter day never arrived. Had 2jab in April and still no sign of Mother Nature. Hoping this is it for ever now. 😊
Edit: 1st August covid booster shot
9th Sep Flu jab

boredsolicitor · 24/09/2021 07:14

Thanks

I'm 49 so had been prepared to concede it was co-incidence but now I'm not sure. I had anticipated menopause would sneak up on me gradually and instead it has hit me like a freight train. I've been on HRT since May after Pfizer COVID jabs in January and March. I track my cycle and my periods are shorter, further apart and less regular since the vaccine. They are also heavier, more painful, and accompanied by more symptoms like mood swings, pain, cramps, grumpiness. I have never felt so shattered.

sunandmoon11 · 24/09/2021 21:50

It's quite interesting to read this. I'm 34 Since having my 2nd jab (pzifer) I've had two periods since and it's been lighter, usually my periods last 4/5 days and the last 2 have been 4 days and lighter than they usually are.
I really hope it hasn't upset something too much! My mum finished her periods when she was 49, so I hoped I'd have a little while yet before all this happened!

Knockonwood · 21/02/2022 18:23

I'm 37 in a few weeks! I've had 1st/2nd and booster all pfizer.
Have had terrible night sweats, dry vagina, mood swings. I've also spotted 4 days after my period had finished and spotted again this cycle on what my tracker says "ovulation day" Doctor checking my hormone levels. I never had any problems before the vaccine, if it comes back I'm perimenopause then I'm confident it's due to the vaccine.

LizMyles · 21/02/2022 20:18

I’m 35 and my periods stopped after 1st vaccine. I went on to have 10 hot flashes a day for weeks. I had blood tests which confirmed post menopause of FSH. After 3 months of no periods they returned and my FSH levels returned to normal. I won’t be having anymore of the vaccines though. And to think they want to give them to children makes me shudder! They’re very powerful and I just woudlnt dream of inflicting that on a child. Dread to think of the potential future fertility issues it could cause.

I hope your levels return back to normal. Good luck. X

In the U.K., in any given month, 1,000 women will start menopause. Given that most people have had 3 vaccines in the last year, there will be a significant number who genuinely just happen to start in the month following their vaccine.

YeOldeTrout · 21/02/2022 21:56

In the U.K., in any given month, 1,000 women will start menopause

Isn't the number much bigger?
I mean, there are about 360,000 women age 50 right now resident in UK.
360k/12 = 30,000. So if we all started to a perfect schedule, and say 80% of women observe peri symptoms prior to full menopause, 24k women per month should "start perimenopause."

And another, I dunno how many, 10% of women age 38-58 should experience "worse" perimenop than previously experienced. So that's 10% of 21 years of women (21*350k = 7.35 million). 735,000 women could report 'worsening' of perimenop each month.

The astonishing thing would be if No Women reported worse periods/peri symptoms soon after ... well, any event. Jab or anything at all.

YeOldeTrout · 21/02/2022 21:57

oh wait, PP meant 1000 women/day!
ahhh... I get it.

Knockonwood · 22/02/2022 08:28

LizMyles* Thank you :)
That's reassuring to know and I'm glad your well now.
I've to wait until 2nd of March for bloods, I'm managing the other symptoms but these nights sweats are horrendous. I'm so glad I've had my children and don't want anymore, I can't imagine how the younger ladies/girls must feel if they are having problems. X

Movinghouseatlast · 22/02/2022 09:51

You would have been entering peri menopause around this age anyway. It isn't like you are 32 and it 'triggered' it.

I was 46. There is always going to be a first time your period is missed in perimenopause.

Perimenopause will bring you mayoress things to worry about then this!

madmomma · 22/02/2022 10:00

I'm convinced that actual covid infection triggered my menopause. Very sharp decline in hormones after infection, resulting in me going on hrt. So I can well believe the jab would mimic this. I wouldn't see it as a reason not have jabs, personally.

Knockonwood · 22/02/2022 10:11

It's worth mentioning that I caught covid 2 weeks after my booster.
Yeah it could be that I was entering peri anyway, but I can't help pondering on the amount of ladies having problems post covid/vaccine.

JuergenSchwarzwald · 22/02/2022 15:53

This is an interesting thread. I had AZ last year with no particular side-effects though my periods were a bit lighter for a while which I wasn't complaining about.

But I had the Pfizer booster in December and I've not had a period since. And I've had horrible headaches - and in the last week or so started getting hot flashes (I use the word advisedly as they only last seconds, rather than the minutes flushes are meant to last). And I am getting eye strain. Does the menopause hit you like an express train or is it more gradual? I am a bit surprised that it's all suddenly hit in days like a massive reduction in hormone levels, rather than something more gradual.

WarriorN · 23/02/2022 08:03

Interview with a meno specialist about this issue.

Seems it can affect cycles for a few months as can Covid

WarriorN · 23/02/2022 08:04

To add, it's known that other infections and vaccines can affect period for some of the reasons he outlines here

AskingforaBaskin · 23/02/2022 08:07

The vaccines triggered my periods. I've been told this by doctors.

I am on the implant. Not a single drop of blood in over 2 years. A couple of days after each vaccine I would come on. I would also come on between them.

I ended up being tested for a few worrying things as it all mimicked cervical cancer.

Apparently it has thrown off a lot of woman's hormones.

WarriorN · 23/02/2022 08:28

Nick Panay says in the video that anything that affects the hypothalamus can affect cycles and they think that there's a unique factor in Covid around hormones but it's going to take a long time to get proper research done.

Women on stable Hrt found a return of meno symptoms and Panay wonders in the video about something to do with oestrogen receptors. But they don't know yet.
