Two week period- and going!

MadamePewter · 28/12/2019 10:59

I’m fifty. Up til now periods pretty much regular as clockwork, though very heavy

Got this one a week early and still going, though not heavy, two weeks later 😱

Is this menopause..? Anyone else had this?

The one I wanted seems only available in the US, so I opted for the next best reviewed. I definitely will report back Smile

Elieza · 14/01/2020 19:08

I was having horrific long periods resulting in time off work feeling faint and went for acupuncture privately.

Periods now three days long. Spotting after though for two days so I may have to go back for a couple of sessions in a few months if that persists, but thats nothing compared to fortnight long periods. With only a fortnight off in between

Is costs £50 a session where I am (scotland) and you have to go once at the start of the period so she can reset the body to do it’s thing, and again at the end so she can stop it. It look a few periods worth of treatments before my body was reprogrammed but it seems to be ok now. That was at least six months ago. Fingers crossed.

Changed my life. But I appreciate not everyone has £300 hanging around. However it was worth it to me as I didnt want to have anything hormonal and that’s all the nhs were offering. I didn’t want a coil as it would have hurt (lichen sclerosis). So my acupuncture on average has cost £50 a period! Maybe less on average if the good periods continue!

Periods are not meant to be long and painful whatever age we are. That means our hormones are not quite balanced. Unfortunately in the U.K. they don’t know enough about that. You need to go abroad for hormone balancing.

TheYearOfTheDog · 14/01/2020 19:48

So it isnt just an inevitable part of the ageing process? A woman can go through menopause with balanced hormones?

A lot of clips im wstching on youtube advise kickstarting adrenal glands. I am trying to eat the foods that make your adrenal system healthy

MadamePewter · 14/01/2020 23:08

Mm.. I’ve tried loads of herbs but think now I need full on drugs or surgery. I’ve had enough.

It’s definitely trailing off now, but don’t want to live like this.

The more think about it the more annoyed I am: she just shrugged when I asked her about the cause or possible remedy.

We should not be accepting this.

Yes @TheYearOfTheDog. That's why so many women sail through the menopause. Think you are onto something there 're adrenal health as apparently the adrenals take over where the ovaries left off.

It is so disheartening to get fobbed off and so many GP's just dismiss it as something we have to endure with no suggestion how to get through it. I'm still forgiving myself for falling for the mirena coil hype. I got it taken out after a huge fight and I gave up on doctors after that. Needless to say it did nothing (I believe it contributed to a whole host of other problems but that's another thread altogether).
Started vitex today . Will report back.

MadamePewter · 15/01/2020 13:27

I hope the vitex helps. Look forward to an update!

The GP told me my hormone levels were fine, I don’t know how that works..

I don’t want to tempt fate, but I think the bleeding has actually stopped.... 😱

But now I have no idea when to expect another period.. frustrating: I can’t plan ahead or book holidays.

Hope everyone else is doing ok

Topseyt · 15/01/2020 14:24

I'm still going. Easing a bit maybe, but I have no clue now what to expect and when.

I had another appointment with my gynaecologist last weekend. She was very good and very reassuring, explaining to me in detail where my fibroid is and why it is in too risky a position to simply cut out (very near ureter and major blood vessels, difficult to position instruments accurately and safely) so I have agreed to continue trying with the mirena for a few more weeks.

I'm not happy with it, but don't feel I have a great deal of choice at the moment. I'll just see how it goes, though pushing for a hysterectomy is still on my mind.

This is shit.

MadamePewter · 15/01/2020 15:53

@Topseyt that sounds awful, far too long.

I’m glad the consultant was good. Bugger that they can’t just remove the fibroid.

I feel for you as the Mirena was just awful. How long do you have to keep trying and do you have a follow up appointment?

OP posts:
Boristhecats · 15/01/2020 16:42

For the first time in a year my last period lasted a week and it has been three weeks since my last one. Hoping my new pill is finally kicking in and it will all go away again.

Topseyt · 15/01/2020 17:18

I have to keep trying until around May. If I can stick it for that long.

No further follow-up appointments for now, but I shall certainly not hesitate to make a GP appointment if I think I need it.

MadamePewter · 15/01/2020 21:15

@Topseyt gosh, I really hope it settles down.

TheYearOfTheDog · 15/01/2020 22:26

I have googled Vitex and see that it's Agnus Castus. My friend's sister swears by that. I'll see how much it is. I"m on everything now. Magnesium Vitamin D, Calcium Flaxseed oil, oMG I spend a fortune on this stuf.. Men just get up. Clean teeth. Go. Being a woman is very expensive.

TheYearOfTheDog · 15/01/2020 22:27

@Topseyt that is very disappointing. I hope they can do something for you even though it's complicated to remove it.

MadamePewter · 15/01/2020 22:36

I tried agnus castus for pre menstrual issues before. It did help.

It is expensive,@TheYearOfTheDog. I’ve tried so many supplements and stuff.

Mummug · 16/01/2020 07:58

Woke up during the night with period pain. Sigh. So that is periods on 20th December; 3rd January and possibly another coming? I am bleeding 10 days out of 14.
I'll keep taking the Vitex anyway, as I expect it will be a while before if kicks in. I can't see it doing any harm. Hopeful that you've both had/heard positive things about Agnus Castus @TheYearOfTheDog and @MadamePewter.
lol re men just getting up and brushing their teeth. So true! I wonder if men were rolling up to docs with serious blood loss for weeks on end if they'd get a "suck it up, you're a man" response. Very much doubt it.
Spend a fortune too and sick to death of sanitary pads and tampons. Spending a fortune on them and tired of wearing the damn things.

MadamePewter · 16/01/2020 12:07

It’s fucking well back!!!!!

Should’ve known, cramps at night and this morning. I fucking despair.

I’ve ring the doctor and left a message

Sorry to everyone else too

Oh no you poor thing :-/
How many days "off" did you have?
Today is my last day of provera. She only gave me 10 days' worth. I split the last one on 2 and took it over 2 days in the hope that a hormone crash didnt give me another period by saturday /sun.

TheYearOfTheDog · 16/01/2020 14:08

Ps how do feel the new man is taking it?
I am seeing a man 6 years younger than i am and he was single for a good while before me. Im definitely the oldest girlfriend he has ever had. I find myself being very honest with him though. At one point i was thinking, do i really want a witness to this? But so far he is not repelled...

angemorange · 16/01/2020 14:13

@mumsnoangel,

I have had the same problem with polyps and am awaiting an op to remove another one.
I found Norehisterone (or Provera) a godsend to regulate my periods and transanemic acid helped with the bleeding.

My consultant warned me last time that any heavy or unusual bleeding should be investigated as if there is something in your womb that shouldnt be there the body will try to expel (hence heavy or irregular bleeds).

MadamePewter · 16/01/2020 16:28

@TheYearOfTheDog one lousy day! But so much hope that it was over 😭

I hope your drug plan works and keeps it staved off.

My man is being ok.. it would be fair to say he’s quite preoccupied by his own health 😂 So not much interest in mine.

I feel repulsive though and really concerned about the possible impact of this on my own self esteem and relationship. I’m so happy in this normal regs to shop after years of misery, and enjoying sex again even in my old age. I so don’t want this to be wrecked.

I rang the doctor as instructed by her, but again not much interest. I can book a phone appointment for a fortnight or ring up first thing and try for same day appointment

OP posts:
MadamePewter · 16/01/2020 16:30

Oh, and there’s no sign of the ultrasound appointment despite the two week promise and that fast approaching.

TheYearOfTheDog · 16/01/2020 16:57

Wow, your iron levels must be so low. Have a high fibre cereal and a full cap of floradix so the fibre takes tge iron to yr lwr intestine. I only found this out recently. If you have floradix it needs to get all the way to your lower intestine before one micro micro gram of iron is ingested.

I can see why people get exasperated and end up ordering drugs over the internet. Not going to do that but i get it.

I hope you get an apt soon. Do the power pose before you go in. Clench your but cheeks and punch your fists in the air. In the loo of course. But sure these days where else would you be!?

Dried apricots have iron and fibre.

ahran2k · 16/01/2020 17:00

I know there are no Mirena fans here but if you have already got it then please give it 6-8 weeks. A lot of doctors do say to wait for 6 months but for most women on it settle in 6-8 week timeframe. I had mine in on Nov 20, bled continuously and heavy for 2 weeks then spotted for 1 week , then normal bleeding for 5 days, spotted again for a week followed by heaviest period of my life for 4 days then spotted for 2 days and after that nothing. Currently have my period and it is just light spotting.
Before I had my Mirena fitted, I started my period in May and it never stopped till my fitting- going from heavy to normal then heavy again.
I cannot comment on PMT though because I had it before Mirena too and still have it but having my periods stopped now had improved my mood a little.

MadamePewter · 16/01/2020 17:09

😂to the power pose! I’ll go for it.

@ahran2k good to hear a positive experience, I know people irl who have sworn by it too. I tried mine for months with bleeding every day so not trying again!

Fingers crossed, my 27 day bleeder last month was a one off. I've had a period again this month, which lasted a much more normal 6 days, 2/3 of which were quite heavy, but that's pretty normal for me now. I have been taking Agnes Castus for about 5 weeks now, so maybe that's helping. I'm going to stick with it though, just in case.

My Drs appointment is next Friday now, but expect I'm gong to come away without any real answers as it seems to have settled down. I'm tempted to ask about the mirena as a friend has one and says it's brilliant, but I've been put off by some of the stories I've read on here. I'm also desperate to lose around 3 stone and I don't want anything to hinder that either.
