Picking up my HRT prescription today.

CuriousMama · 25/06/2019 10:25

I went to the GP last week and she asked me a couple of questions then gave me a prescription for HRT tablets.
I still have periods but they can be erratic. I'm suffering with feeling hot and clammy and memory is quite poor. My face doesn't go red but i feel it. And I urinate more often than before.
I've read mixed opinions about HRT but have decided to try it.

I've taken the first one. I'm wondering about taking aspirin too seen as blood clotting can be an issue?

princessTiasmum · 26/06/2019 09:15

No don't take aspirin, all meds have side effects and because it says could be a side effect doesn't mean it will be,aspirin could interfere with how you are affected
What is the HRT you have been given?

JinglingHellsBells · 26/06/2019 09:20

as above.

no one should self medicate with aspirin- it can cause stomach bleeds and serious issues in your guts if taken regularly .

There is a tiny risk of blood clots with HRT so if you are worried your dr ought to prescribe patches not pills ( only pill type is linked to increased risk of blood clots.)

CuriousMama · 26/06/2019 09:45

Thank you for the advice. It's Femostron.

I've had a blood clot which is why I use HRT patches.

Couldn't do without them. (Had to have my ovaries surgically removed.) I get on very well with the patches, so you might ask to try them?

rosie39forever · 26/06/2019 15:15

Another vote for patches here, totally changed my life, I have evorel 50 and mirena coil. Aspirin is no longer recommend for clot prevention as risks outweigh the benefits.

Another newbie here. Day 1 of Femoston. Been having all the usual symptoms for ages and using Evening Primrose and Black Cohosh. But the night sweats and memory fog have got worse again, so here we go... Dr says I'm a good candidate (46) so we'll see.

People already on it - how soon do you see results?

LineRunner · 26/06/2019 17:08

Pretty much within 48 hours for the sweats. But the brain fog took longer for me.

HellInAHandCartThatsWhat · 26/06/2019 17:14

About a week. I'm on femeston and it helped with anxiety, brain fog, sweats...I still get ratty but only for about 3 days a month rather than ALL THE TIME.

chocolatebrazilnut · 26/06/2019 17:14

I’m on Evorel sequi (patches; 2 weeks of oestrogen only and 2 weeks of oestrogen and progestogen). My hot flushes stopped within 2 days of applying the first one.

JamieDornansBiatch · 26/06/2019 19:03

I've just been given femostron today too :) Being referred for an ablation too due to really heavy periods & I'm hoping that the hrt in the meantime doesn't make my periods even heavier. I think I'm expecting miracles with these tablets & hoping to get a new lease of life lol

runningtogetskinny · 26/06/2019 19:40

I've been on femosten conti 0.5/2.5 for over a year and no issues at all, still have a few very mild flushes and warm during the night but NOTHING like before. I noticed a big improvement in a few days of starting - hope it suits you

squareeyed · 27/06/2019 13:09

I feel 'weak' for giving in to HRT - were my symptoms really that bad, couldn't I eat better/exercise more...? But it's day 2 and I think I can already feel a difference. I feel sharper and don't have any of the physical symptoms that previously would hit on what felt like a random rotation... Fingers crossed it's not just a coincidence....

rosie39forever · 27/06/2019 15:20

Generations of women have had it drummed into them the it's a natural process that we should put up with and get on with it after all it happens to all of us🙄. You're not weak for taking control of your body quite the opposite, it's a travesty that women are made to feel like this... if men went through the hormonal upheaval that we do you could bet that every single one would be on HRT😂

CuriousMama · 27/06/2019 15:51

Thanks for all the replies.

I'll finish the tablets then make an appointment and ask about patches.

I feel a bit low today but that could be because I'm back at work tomorrow after being off 8 days Sad

It took me a couple of go's to find the HRT that worked best for me. I spent a few months on another one and it made me quite depresses, but Femeston works for me.

So listen to your body but don't give up on HRT if you are getting other benefits - you may just need to take it in a different way...

CuriousMama · 27/06/2019 17:53

It's day 3 for me and am sure I'm not as hot? Might be my imagination. Plus i seem more switched on?

I asked my gp to do the menopause , hormone test then prescribed not off questions!

CuriousMama · 30/06/2019 02:22

I've taken 5 tablets now. I'm itching tonight mainly on my right leg. I'm not sure if it's related to hrt?

OP posts:
HellInAHandCartThatsWhat · 30/06/2019 08:01

@novofem The hormone test for the menopause doesn’t show anything reliable till you are through it and actually menopausal. In peri menopause when you are all over the place they could show anything. Far better to prescribe from symptoms.

justilou1 · 30/06/2019 08:06

Firstly, don’t rush anything. It takes a couple of months for things to settle in and for you to know whether you’re going to get on with that type of prescription or not. The itching will be unrelated. If anything, it will be heat. Just don’t panic!!! More people have issues with patches than anything (because they fall off or the adhesive causes irritation). You haven’t been on this for long enough to know yet.

justilou1 · 30/06/2019 08:08

Wait until you see the magic it does to your hair! *flowing locks

CuriousMama · 30/06/2019 10:41

Thank you I'll keep on with them.

I already have good hair and skin for my age, 51. Just genetics.

My libido has been fine but had definitely upped a notch already Wink

Good for you. Once you start noticing the symptoms that you're no longer noticing, you'll realise how much better you're feeling!!!
