Picking up my HRT prescription today.

I went to the GP last week and she asked me a couple of questions then gave me a prescription for HRT tablets.
I still have periods but they can be erratic. I'm suffering with feeling hot and clammy and memory is quite poor. My face doesn't go red but i feel it. And I urinate more often than before.
I've read mixed opinions about HRT but have decided to try it.

@Bringbacksideburns
It's just luck if you get on okay with the first type of HRT; nothing to do with the dr who prescribes it in most cases. It's like buying a dress- what suits one person isn't a good fit for someone else.

It's the progestins in HRT that vary - there are 5 types available if you include the Mirena coil.

These tend to cause more side effects than estrogen. So it's a case of trying to find one that suits you.

I was lucky in that Norethisterone was okay for me- a bit of PMS symptoms with it but nothing terrible. After some years I swapped to Utrogestan which is body identical as it may be safer. It's not perfect- I do have some side effects- but everything is a compromise so it's a case of putting up with a few side effects for a few days every few weeks when on balance I feel better on HRT.

@bringbacksideburns, this forum is disproportionately represented by women who are on hrt and get on well with it. I've now been through the menopause for over 5 years, openly talking a out it and most women who go through it themselves are not on hrt by choice or have tried it and it has not worked for them at all. I am one of them. Tried twice, patches and then tablets and I fell much worse on them.

I have found that coming to terms with the symptoms and accepting them, talking to other women going through the same thing has been much more beneficiary. I have adapted my life accordingly. Of course I would love to go back to who I was before, full of energy, no brain fog, no sweating, no anxiety etc...but now that I've accepted it, it is not half as bad as it was before.

Not saying that you shouldn't try another treatment, but if after you do so, it's still doesn't work for you, know thst you are far from the only one and it won't mean misery for years to come.

ps I will say that some drs don't know much about HRT and tend to dish out pills whereas consultants who are menopause experts are aware of all the types and the side effects of each, and know what may suit someone a bit better.

The period is still going on and very dark. After reading some messages I think I'll go back to the GP soon see if I need a different pill?
