Picking up my HRT prescription today.

I went to the GP last week and she asked me a couple of questions then gave me a prescription for HRT tablets.
I still have periods but they can be erratic. I'm suffering with feeling hot and clammy and memory is quite poor. My face doesn't go red but i feel it. And I urinate more often than before.
I've read mixed opinions about HRT but have decided to try it.

I started perimenopause in my early forties and was very nervous of taking HRT. After years of deliberation, I finally started on Femoston 1/10 aged 47. I felt the benefits within 48 hours. Very few hot flushes, less aches and pains - generally more balanced and happy. Now to consider coming off some time in the next couple of years. If it was zero risk, I'd stay on till my 80s!! xx

CuriousMama · 30/06/2019 15:50

ICE50 I started years ago and am now 51. I'm on the same one as you. That gives me hope Smile

justilou1 i hope you are right about the hair. i am losing mine, just been given Evoral Conti patches, was on livial previously

justilou1 · 30/06/2019 16:40

Might take a few months, but oestrogen should help. (As long as no underlying nutritional or autoimmune problems)

S1naidSucks · 30/06/2019 16:43

I’ve been on elleste solo since I was 37 (hysterectomy) and I couldn’t do without it. If I miss it for two days the sweat is pouring off me and my mental health is seriously affected. I’m 51 and my hair is really thick and in amazing condition. So soft.

I got my period on the 1st. It's even heavier. Normally it's started to slow down by now. Has anyone else found this with hrt? I use a menstrual cup.

I had patches but they exacerbated my MS fatigue to an intolerable point.

FermatsTheorem · 04/07/2019 06:34

I find femoston gives me much heavier, crampier periods than the HRT I was on before (prempak - suited me much better but the manufacturers discontinued it).

ICE50 · 04/07/2019 06:59

OP, my first period on Femoston 1/10 was heavier than usual but then they settled. If your cycles have been erratic and this week's period is the first in a few months, there's more lining to shed so the period will be heavier. x

CuriousMama · 04/07/2019 11:58

Thanks for the replies.

I had a period a month ago. They were pretty heavy before. Hopefully they'll settle.

I am noticing I feel better in myself and skin loos better. I'm also not as tired. Usually when I have AF I'm lethargic.

I've taken a Spatone iron sachet this morning. They're good as don't hurt your stomach. Not that I feel weary but I want to keep up my iron stores.

I'm also been prescribed Femostron after my previous prescription has suffered manufacturing issues. The 0.5 dose has not worked at all (Tridestra worked brilliantly) so have just had dosage upped - hopefully the night sweats, brain fog, lack of libido, irritability that have returned will quickly dissipate

CuriousMama · 06/07/2019 12:35

I hope they work cricketballs3.

I've definitely noticed I'm not as tired.

Has anyone noticed any changes in their weight? I haven't yet.

Shit, I forgot to take my grey tablet last night and found it on the table. Hope it doesn't affect me?

OP posts:
ICE50 · 13/07/2019 16:36

You'll be fine. Just take the tablet now.

squareeyed · 15/07/2019 00:15

I'm a few days in to the grey pills and I feel awful. First half of the packet, I felt much better. All my normal symptoms went. But this last few days I have felt terrible - really overheated, anxious - and now I can't get to sleep as well as still waking up early!

Does it get better??

CuriousMama · 15/07/2019 09:15

I feel awful too on grey ones. Headache like a hangover. And I'm spotting even though I just had a period.

OP posts:
CuriousMama · 15/07/2019 09:22

I was warned about the spotting and missing a tablet probably won't have helped. I hope the headache goes though. I'm not one to suffer from them.

Just over 10 days of 1/10 and feel so much more normal again! Not sure when my prescription had to be changed they went to such a low dose

cricketballs3 · 16/07/2019 16:51

But I am still on the white ones! I'm going to get my pharmacy to keep checking Tridestra supplies - as soon as they are available again I'm going to have my prescription changed back

bringbacksideburns · 16/07/2019 16:55

I feel like the only person on patches who feels shite.

Nearly 3 months now. Never even saw my ridiculously overworked GP but had phone consultation and tests done at surgery.

Have to renew prescription on 22nd and seriously wondering whether to bother.

Don't have periods. Don't want to go on tablets due to previous leg cramps and varicose veins with poor circulation.

All these people saying how much their lives have changed makes me feel worse.

GP has led me to believe there are no other patches to try.

rosie39forever · 16/07/2019 19:53

Bringbacksideburns if you aren't getting on with patches then ask your gp to swap them for either another brand or a gel. Many women have to try a few different combinations before they find one that suits, a recent study (I can't remember by who) said the average woman on hrt has tried 3 different types before they find one that works so you are not alone. Your gp was wrong there are a few different brands of patch, you may need to tweak the dosage. Have a look on the menopause matters website it gives a list of all the types and dosage of hrt.

JinglingHellsBells · 16/07/2019 20:18

@bringbacksideburns Agree 100% with previous poster. Just a quick point- transdermal is safer re blood clots and this is more of an issue for the over-60s on HRT. But leg cramps and varicose veins are not connected with blood clots or cirulation issues (generally.) I have a varicose vein. I understand this is a faulty valve in a vein and nothing to do with poor circulation which might add risk when using pill form HRT. In fact HRT can make veins worse because it relaxes the vein walls (in a good way) . Varicose veins are not a risk factor for HRT so if you were only able to get on with pill form, that should not be an issue.

bringbacksideburns · 17/07/2019 07:31

Thanks folks.

It's shocking that many of us have to try different types before we start to feel better but I will go in on Monday. Seeing the nurse not GP so will probably have to wait then for approval to change and get a new prescription . Its a pity all surgeries don't have some sort of HRT specialist really.
