Kliofem.....anyone else?

PrudenceDear · 16/05/2017 23:46

After what seems like forever, I've just started on kliofem today.
Anyone else? Or anyone any experience of it?

My last period was almost 15 months ago but had been every 11 months for a couple of years. Hot flushes have come and gone over the years but have been back for about 7 months now. More recently I've had several episodes of anxiety and I get lots of aches and pains so hoping this will help.

Now I need to overhaul the diet!!
I'm 44 btw

When women start HRT at a young age (like you are) it's sometimes best to start with a sequi type even though you are 'officially' post meno (having not had a period for 15 months.)

You are having an early menopause and sometimes it's just possible that there is still some ovarian activity (it can come back) and you are still producing estrogen .

This can contribute to the bleeding.

Kliofem is 2mgs estrogen which is quite a high dose so my guess is that the amount of norethisterone in it is not controlling the build up of your lining (possibly due to you still having some estrogen of your own, in comparison to women in their late 50s etc who are many years post meno.)

You'd be better off trying a sequi regime perhaps estrogen gel (so you can tweak the amount to get it right) and something like Utrogestan or Norethisterone x 10 days each 4 week cycle.

Thanks for the advice, I'm going on holiday tomorrow so will need to persevere till I get back 😟

PrudenceDear · 19/08/2017 23:00

How's everyone doing?

Towards the end of my 3rd dial I missed a few days tablets. (Been having a very stressful time and had gone on holiday and thought I'd forgotten them). Anyway, really bad cramping -felt like my right ovary was being twisted. And then I got a light bleed. Found the tablets and finished off the last few but now home and have no more. Still bleeding slightly, sporadic ovary pain always on right. I'm hoping the doctor will reissue me with them without seeing me as I know an appointment will take weeks.
My mood has plummeted and I have so little patience.

I've just joined the mumsnet chat on kliofem.. and see it's gone quiet since last month.
Deejay16.. how are you doing? Have you thrown in the towel?

diheymans24 · 12/09/2017 00:15

I'm sure you can renew your prescription (PrudenceDear) by just calling your doctor.
I've just started kliofem again.. after giving up within 2.5 weeks, the first time, when the bleeds, bloating etc kicked in..
It's very reassuring to have this forum to share the ups and downs..
Thank you all..

Mariemc1 · 13/09/2017 19:49

Have been told by chemist kliofem is no longer available and been given kliovance 5 wks ago and back to night sweats, really annoying as I've been using kliofem for yrs with great results

PrudenceDear · 13/09/2017 23:07

Oh really? I got my prescription renewed so have 3 months worth. I missed a week of taking them and my mood was awful. Once I was back on them it improved but I've struggled with cramping and just had a period. Hoping it'll settle down now.

Are you guys still out here?? Sorry not been on for a while. Here is my update GP changed my HRT from Kliofem as bleeding was constant. Started me on Elleste Duet 1mg, basically halfing the dose of oestrogen and progesterone I was on. This HRT gives you a period, tou’re Only on progesterone for wo weeks out of 4 and when you stop it you should have a light period. Well not for me! Bleeding everyday stopped but period was not light, 7 days heavy painful big clots. Then I was feeling some weird pressure symptoms in my abdomen especially in my bladder. Back to GP, sent for ultrasound, bulky fibroid uterus, largest fibroid pressing on my ureter and affecting my lady kidney. Now seen gynaecologist, vaginal ultrasound and hysteroscopy, biopsies taken and told to stop HRT. Biopsies confirmed fibroids and nothing sinister. Recommended for hysterectomy, surgery scheduled for 6th Feb. Gulp!

DeeJay16 · 28/01/2018 20:31

Lady kidney = left kidney, typo or predictive changes!

Munchyseeds · 29/01/2018 17:57

Poor you! At least now you know what the issue is and can hopefully get the hrt right after the surgery...if that's what you want

The kliofem seems to suit me so I am happy to keep taking it
Seems to be no supply issues either

DeeJay16 · 29/01/2018 19:49

Thanks Munchyseeds. Will def be going back on HRT, symptoms are coming back especial the pain in my joints. Just need to get through surgery first.

aberchick · 26/11/2018 21:04

Hi all - I've been reading this thread with interest because I was using Elleste Duet Conti for about one year with pretty good results but apparently there are issues with the manufacturer and supplies have dried up! I tried several differnt pharamacists before finally giving up and heading back to my doc for something else. She has now prescribed me with Kliofem. I've yet to pick up the prescription and am sort of trepidatious about it as it's never good to load your body with synthetic drugs however lack of sleep and depression has forced my hand so I'm going to give it a go and will endeavour to let you all know how I get on. This is a great forum and it's so good to be able to share the experience. For ref I'm 52, no kids, long term partner, periods dried up about 4 years ago which is when it all started to go south!! I'm still very active with work and fitness stuff but really struggling from the lack of sleep. So, fingers crossed I can at least sort that out....more soon.

mariecross · 10/12/2018 13:13

Been reading this thread with interest. i'm on day 21 with my first wheel of Kliofem. Had not had a period for 12 months, started having flushes about 9 months ago which greatly affected my sleep. was intent on not going on HRT but finally went to the Dr's who gave me Kliofem. I was a little concerned as it has northisterone in it which I have been quite bad on, Moody, weighty, but she said it's such a low dose in respect to the old prescription I would be ok, which I seem to be on that front!
However I started bleeding 6 days ago, like a teenage period, heavy and crampy, which seems to be some of the experiences on here. i'm wondering whether to preserver or not? liking my sleep, but not liking the unexpected bleeding.

Bellaciao · 10/12/2018 15:35

It is common and normal to have bleeding or spotting during the first 6 months of any continuous combined HRT which should settle after this time. If the bleeding concerns you at any time then speak to your doc. If it doesn't settle and your doc says all is well then some women find going back to cyclical HRT is preferable as the bleed is then predictable (monthly) - and the added bonus is that you don't have to take norethisterone the whole time.

mariecross · 12/12/2018 11:57

To keep you updated on my situation, after 22 days my Dr has told me to stop taking Kliofem, if I don't stop bleeding then I will go for a scan? If i have she is going to prescribe a cyclical HRT which I will have a monthly or 3 monthly bleed! I have put up with it for 36 years, whats a few more?
Day 2 cold turkey and nothing has changed as of yet....

SueHill1967 · 19/03/2019 15:25

I have been on kliofem for 2months & the anxiety is crippling me, anyone else suffering with this?

Welshlady00 · 23/03/2019 11:09

Hi
Just started taking them 1week in, didn’t want to go down this path as my mum or man never took anything
But with trouble sleeping waking up all night , hot flushes and feeling like a zombie all day as no sleep in night.
I use to go to gym 3-4 times a week now sit on sofa feeling I don’t want to do anything at all. With the high and lows of emotions and getting annoyed with hubby for no reason, he really new how to egnite my fuse button 🤪😳😬 decided to give it a go

Rara1971 · 25/04/2019 08:58

Hi....i have just had to stop the elleste duet as they cant seem to get it anymore....im starting on kliofem after this months and next...had no prob with the ellests only a slight bleed on the last couple of daus it sorted me right out and my flushes had stopped. Im hoping to be ok on the kliofem or i think ill be stopping the lot tbh.....x

Maximoo2 · 26/04/2019 16:30

I can’t get hold of any Elleste Duet either so the pharmacist recommended Kliofem. I’m now waiting for the GP to change my prescription & I’ll have to start it when I finish the packet I’m on. Was thinking about changing to Femoston tho as I’m not sure the norethisterone agrees with me. It’s so frustrating trying to see the GP to discuss it. Their knowledge about HRT is pretty limited. Disappointed that the surgery don’t offer a well woman clinic where you could have access to information and discuss your concerns without taking a valuable, and almost impossible to get, GPs appointment. It really feels like a battle sometimes!

oceontide · 01/05/2019 13:09

Yes, I can no longer get Elleste Duet Conti either :( Today I rang the company and they said it 'may' be back mid June this year (hopefully).
It has helped me a lot with emotional issues and hot flushes and palpitations, but I have found weight gain an issue with it.

Double66 · 09/05/2019 19:26

I have started taking Killeen after supply problems with my previous HRT and I logged on here as since I have been taking it, I feel so unwell, I wondered if anyone else felt this way.

Charleymiller89 · 15/05/2019 20:08

Hi all,
New on here looking for some advice of the menopause and HRT.

I’ve been in kliofem since February ( was on Elleste- but told I had to swap due to manufacturing issues ) to help relieve the symptoms of menopause, however I feel so rubbish being on them!

I keep having spotting and break through bleeding, I’ve got really bad anxiety due to worrying myself silly with the bleeding as keep thinking it could be something seriously wrong due to abnormal bleeding.
Got bad headaches and keep feeling dizzy.

Want some advise on what I should do, I want to come off of them but not sure what else I could take. I have a doctors appointment booked for two weeks time so I want to discuss this then.

Any advise is welcome.
Thanks ❤️ Xx

Hi I've been on kilofem for 1 month first time on HRT I'm 55 but wondering if to stop them my breasts are really soar cant even touch them and my stomache is bloated ,is this normal ? And will it settle down ? Anybody had this ?

Penninepathfinder · 17/05/2019 08:29

I'm 57. I started hrt on patches which helped with hot flushes but "unpeeled" or rubbed off if near waist or knicker line and left a black outline which i had to keep removing with baby oil or end up with a patchwork tummy, anyway i've just started on kliofem. I'm hoping it will help with the horrible joint pain from my neck to my feet. I guess all the symptons will have to be weighed up but really hoping bleeding wont start again after being free of it for over 2 years. If i dont get on with it back to the doc's for patches?
