I’ve come off them too. Feeling terrible. Wasn’t given a patch option but offered an anti depressant instead. Will weigh up the options x

Hi everyone
So interesting reading everyone’s posts. I’m just half way through my second packet of Elleste 1mg. This is the second time i’ve tried hrt due to an early menopause and various undesirable symptoms. The first time Elleste gave me the worst period i’ve ever had. The pain was so unbearable I stopped them immediately.
This time my first period was fine but i’m ultra sensitive and ridiculously over emotional about everything. I feel like i’m losing the plot!!! I’ve put on nearly a stone and my stomach is quite bloated.
In the early hours I woke up for yet another nighttime wee (not like me) to discover I have cystitis (or something similar). Has anyone had cystitis whilst taking Elleste?

janieloo · 16/10/2018 08:47

I've not encountered any cystitis but with all the side effects from these medications, it doesn't surprise me that it does happen, especially when messing with down below area and its functions. Might be because of the night time wee happening now 😕

QueenoftheNights · 16/10/2018 12:45

Some women are a bit intolerant to the progestogen in the 2nd half of the cycle. You might feel some burning but you ought not to have an actual infection.

You may want to try another sort. Too many women give up on HRT if it's not cutting it but there are many many types- patches, gel, separate progesterone, different tablets.

Maybe Elleste is not right for you. If you want to stick to pills, Femoston is supposed to be better tolerated.

tdg233 · 26/10/2018 19:48

Lots of these comments concern me. I was prescribed this medication as I am experiencing anxiety and anger issues along with other menopause symptoms, however, most of you seem to say your anxiety is worse. Unsure about taking now

SAT67 · 16/11/2018 07:27

I’ve been on Elleste duet for a month now and am sure Im putting weight on anyone else had this issue

seventhgonickname · 16/11/2018 23:41

I had been on gel and uterigestan which worked for all my menopause symptoms but I bled all the time(flooding to spotting no pattern) .
My gp has been great but not a fan of me trying patches and gel so put me on Estelle saying maybe I wasn't absorbing the gel.l am just starting the second pack.
I feel awful.I flooded for the first week and put that down to the change in hrt.I have spent the last 3 weeks feeling bloated, ankles swelling and defiantly flat to irritable. The last week has been hell, very painful breasts and hips and now my period is starting.I feel knackered,my boibs which used to stop hurting when my period started just hurt more and for the first time in my life I am wearing a bra in bed.I have wanted to cry all day.
Lots of good things have happened this month and I have not felt able to enjoy them.
Due to the bleeding I am having a scan soon and a follow up appointment with my GP so will stick it out until then but this is grim.

Hi
I have just started the third week of Elleste Duet 1mg. Trouble with sleep and extreme night sweats not to mention my mental state was getting quite scary that I had to seek help. In less than three weeks I am feeling much better mentally, sleep has improved drastically but I have gained 10lbs in weight!!! This is in conjunction with increasing strength training and going on a low carb diet to avoid the dreaded weight gain. What the????!!!!! I am seriously considering stopping as I simply cannot afford to gain anymore weight . Advise please!!!!!!!

tropicemma · 10/12/2018 20:53

I've just been prescribed Elleste Duet 1 having been suffering with menopausal systems following surgery to have my ovaries removed which obviously has brought on the menopause.
Symptoms have been hot flushes, anxiety, brain fog, lack of sleep and lack of concentration and pretty much an emotional wreak!! I'm very nervous about taking the tablets and wondered if anyone else had been in a similar position.

JUJUE · 10/12/2018 21:27

I've just been prescribed elleste duet by my doctor for the menopause I was 50 in October ive had my doubts about taking them wot are people's thoughts I've had hot sweats mood swings aching bones tiredness and fatigue and at the end of my tether with it all

tropicemma · 10/12/2018 22:08

JUJUE are the hot flushes etc. been since you've been taking the Elleste or before?

JUJUE · 11/12/2018 07:05

Before taking them

dontforgettheyellowbird · 11/12/2018 07:09

Personally, I couldn't recommend it enough. I've been lucky that it has drastically helped me with my moods and sore joints.

sarat0509 · 14/01/2019 20:40

I am now about to complete my 3rd month of Elleste duet one. The 1st two months were a nightmare, i was considering coming off as my anxiety was through the roof, depression was at an all time low and my periods were heavier and more painful than they had been for many years and breast tenderness was ALL month. This was mainly when i was taking the green tablets (apart from painful beasts which was all month), i was going to go to doctor and demand something else as i was almost suicidal and feeling absolutely dreadful. However, my doctor couldn't see me for another few weeks so i decided to give the 3rd packet a go, but decided would stop if it didn't start to improve. WHAT A CHANGE this 3rd month has been! Wow! No breast tenderness, no aches and pains, no anxiety and no depression, more energy and feeling like a human being, something i realise i had not felt like for a very long time. I am on my last green tablet tomorrow and yet to have a period, which i secretly hope does not come and as i have no PMT I thinking it won't show. Is this all normal for such a change in the 3rd month? could i revert back to emotional and physical wreck next month?

freakyone · 21/01/2019 13:06

Hi, I'm so pleased I found this site. I'm taking elleste duet again after trying it 3 years ago. I'm nearly finished my 2nd pack and omg the depression and dark thoughts are taking me over to the extreme. My doctor (and I have seen many don't listen to me and have said once you pack up smoking we'll look into it then.i enjoy my smoking and don't do anything else ie drink) I still have night sweats worse than ever and have totally irrational thoughts. I moved to a new county 8 years ago and can't make friends and my old one's don't bother with me anymore. The only time I leave the house is to go work and I work 14hr shifts on my own. I don't know how to make friends anymore and everything is getting me down. Can anyone suggest what I can do? I'm a really friendly person and I think everyone assumes I'm surrounded by friends so don't get invited out.

chakra69 · 05/02/2019 11:34

Hi everyone.
I'm on day 5 of Elleste Duet 1mg. Has anybody else experienced a pricklyheat/burning sensation over their body, especially face and upper body?

Maddy70 · 06/02/2019 16:24

I love it. Its been like a miracle. No flushes, no itching, no dryness. No side effects either

dementedma · 06/02/2019 21:09

I'm a huge fan of it and have been taking it for a couple of years. The doctor says thats long enough and won't prescribe it any more so now am on fluoxitine(sp) for the mood swings and sweats. Lets see how that goes. It was a pain having bleeds with the Elleste but other than that I loved it! It worked for me.

Pipadee · 07/02/2019 08:59

I'm on my first pack of Elleste Duet 1mg. I 've been suffering from low moods, night sweats, hot flushes and all the other symptoms for 3 years now. I didn't want to go on HRT but decided I needed something to help me get back to feeling happy and normal again!
My night sweats were really bad and I've forgotten what a good nights sleep is! I was hoping to have a miracle happen when starting my HRT.
I've finished taking the white tabs and I'm now on day 6 of the green tablets. Having finished the white tablets my experience has been; they did not feel like they were doing anything to change my symptoms. I did feel bloated with them and in week two of taking them also started feeling dizzy and nauseous. My night sweats didn't really improve until towards the end of taking the white ones when I noticed a slight improvement at the end of week two! My night sweats seemed to be getting less - which i was pleased about. However, i'm now on the green tablets - and the night sweats have come back in FULL. I was only just beginning to feel like things were working then bang - the green ones seem to have set me back. Has anyone else had this experience with the GREEN tabs - and night sweats coming back?
Also I feel so low and hungry all the time - I don't want to put on any more weight. Does anyone else feel more hungry with Elleste Duet 1mg? I don't know what to do next! I really want things to improve and am happy to persevere but am at the point of going back to the doctor for help!

Billy2019 · 09/02/2019 09:34

I have 2 green tablets left of the 1mg elleste.
I cannot believe how much difference the white tablets have made. I was suffering really badly from foggy brain, low mood and also achy joints, headaches and sleepless nights. I feel 100% better, the only issue is i dont feel as good on the green tablets, but i think the positives outway the negative. I am so glad i went to the doctors instead of putting up with my symptoms as i had been doing.

I don't know if you will see this, but your dr is completely wrong re timescales for HRT. In fact there has been SO much publicity on this I don't know how your dr has missed it.

The guidance from the BMS and NICE says there are to be no time limits on HRT. 2 years is very very short term.

You will find this at (5) on this fact sheet.

thebms.org.uk/publications/consensus-statements/hormone-replacement-therapy/

The guidance also says that anti-ds should NOT be first line treatment for menopause.

I suggest you find another GP who is up to date, and who can offer you what works for you.

JinglingHellsBells · 09/02/2019 10:34

@Pipadee You need to give it more time. You are not even through one month.

The way HRT works is like this;
the first 2 weeks of the pack are estrogen. After 2 weeks the next 2 weeks of pills are estrogen and norethisterone (a progestogen.)
This can cause PMS symptoms and almost eradicate the 'feel good' of estrogen-only.

However, it may well get better as your body adjusts to the progestogen each month. The rule is you give all HRT 3 months before swapping.

There is no evidence that HRT causes weight gain but clearly if the progestogen pills make you hungrier it's hard and you will just have to use will power and resist eating.

Are you doing all the lifestyle things too? Exercise for at least 30 mins a day, low sugar/refined carbs, loads of fruit and veg etc.
HRT helps but it can't do it all if your lifestyle isn't tip top too!

If after 3 months you feel the same, see your GP and discuss other types of HRT- there are lots to choose from.

dementedma · 09/02/2019 17:38

thanks jingles. I've actually been on it for about 5 years I think on and off (am 55), so maybe my age is the reason?
Night sweats are beginning to reappear already but are mild so will try and push on through. ADs helping with mood swings.

Ollychic · 11/02/2019 14:53

After months of suffering with premenopause and now in menopause I nervpusly decided to go on HRT. This page helped me a lot to decode! Ivd been on Elleste duet 1mg for over 2 weeks and i can happily say my horrible hot flushes and night sweats stopped almost immediately Smile i also have a lot more energy and the hazy head due to zero sleep has also gone!! Had i known it would be this good i would have started ages ago. 😀😀

JinglingHellsBells · 11/02/2019 16:56

@dementedma

I'm sorry but you have had poor treatment which is completely against the NICE and BMS guidance.

If you still have symptoms, you carry on with HRT. GPs have been told very clearly NOT to give ADs for mood swings associated with menopause.

You have every right to go back.

Read all about this and be assertive. Your age is not a factor- you can take HRT till you are 90!
