hi all
because of problems with polyps&heavier bleeding with clots the gyny has given me the option of having one of these
just wondering if anyone whos had this for whatever reason can tell me their experiences&if when meno really does rear its ugly head if having it done reduces any of the symptoms?they will leave ovaries behind
im48&have been told twice that im not meno or peri meno yet
tia

I also had my cervix removed (yay) and haven't noticed any difference, perhaps I will as I get older

FeckTheMagicDragon · 14/07/2015 18:13

I was 46 halfpint, pelvic floor is fine - but they fixed a prolapse while they were up there :)
I did have some minor incontinace but did my pelvic floor exercises religiously and it's fine now. I still do them, and wear a pantie liner just in case I get an uncontrollable fit of the giggles.

They did take my cervix, as that's how they go in - cut around the very top of the vagiona, cut away any tissue connected to the uterous (in my case lots of fibroids so I may have had a tad more pain post op than others who only have polyps inside the uterous) then remove the uterous in sections. Tie everything up, like Fallopian tubes, then neatly sew up the vagina. As your cervix dips down into your vagina it doesn't make it smaller or shorter. Hope that's not TMI?

FeckTheMagicDragon · 14/07/2015 18:19

I'm not good on oestrogen or combined - weird mood swings. As this was to help combat night sweats, vaginal dryness, and not osteoporosis (due to my age) it seemed the best choice. Working well so far.

halfpint1967 · 14/07/2015 18:25

thanks both of uSmile
no not tmi its fine lol
they dont always take the cervix&that hasnt been discussed with me as yet but may well be when i see gyny in6wks!
i dont do my pelvic floor exercises really.only now&again but was doing them for a while&even had physio for few months when i did stick to it but have been very bad&not stuck to itShock

Feck I'm really puzzled as I don't think there are such things as progesterone patches. what brand are they?

Here is a list of what progestogens are available.

FeckTheMagicDragon · 14/07/2015 19:17

Lol, sorry oestrogen patches :)
Took a bit of trial and error to get me there - Evorel 25, so not a huge amount.

FeckTheMagicDragon · 14/07/2015 19:18

I got my hormones mixed up - not for the first time :)

halfpint1967 · 14/07/2015 19:39

FeckTheMagicDragon · 14/07/2015 20:04

About that, yes. Came back on reduced hours for a couple of dats and built it up. Was surprised how knackered I felt after the first day. But my boss was fine about it all.

FeckTheMagicDragon · 14/07/2015 20:05

I think everyone's recovery time is different, some go back at 6, some at 10. Some later.

halfpint1967 · 14/07/2015 20:28

yea everybodys different Smile

If you had blood tests for your hormones, they are often inaccurate. If you read the NICE guidelines (someone has posted links to these on the forum quite recently- might be 2-3 posts down) NICE says drs are not to give blood tests for women over 45 to diagnose peri meno.

The tests only test how your hormones are on that day. Even if you had 2 tests in a month ( day 3 and after day 14, which is how it's supposed to be done) it's still not necessarily accurate. I had a test done that said I was post meno and in fact had periods for 2 more years!

At some point you will be peri and at 48 it's quite possible you are given the average age of meno is 51-52. All I'm saying is that any test done is immediately out of date because you will start peri at some point afterwards.

When I had the same investigation as you, I was awake. It is very quick and shouldn't really cause a period or bleeding. I was told to watch out for pain for a few days that may indicate infection.

I think I'd say that bleeding 2 and a half weeks after the investigation is not linked to it, as it's too long ago now, but if you are worried, ask your GP for advice.

Kewcumber · 17/07/2015 10:47

I was also told by my gynae that it was pointless testing hormone levels as it was only a measure of your hormones on that day especially in my case with polycystic ovaries and wildly erratic hormones.

And this was 20+ years ago so I'm sure it's not new advice.

halfpint1967 · 17/07/2015 11:19

thanks both of u.
it wasnt just blood tests i had done though i was also told by the sonographer who did my tv scan in January that both my ovaries have still got plenty of eggs lined up&that they all look healthy.no sign of any of them looking grey&shrivelled(her words lol)which is an indication of peri meno&menoSmile
so my partner joked 'oh good time for another baby then!'lol Grin

If you are worried, make an appt to see your GP to discuss.
Bleeding after a hysteroscopy is not normal. But as that was 2 weeks ago, it's more likely to be hormones that are up the creek- nothing to do with having a tiny camera put there.
You can still have irregular cycles for many years during peri, no matter how many eggs you have.

halfpint1967 · 17/07/2015 13:55

my cycle is still very regular pinkfrocks.no missed ones no extra long ones nowt like that
have spoken to dr&she said that though it is unusual its not un heard of for this to happen afterwards.
im not flooding so have to just keep an eye on it&keep dr informed
hopefully itll stop as quickly as it started!Smile

I had the microwave endometrial ablation 5 years ago - it didn't work. My gynae said that he only does a hysterectomy these days for life threatening conditions and even with ablation he "acts conservatively" - so conservatively that it had no effect. He also told me that he would be reluctant to perform a hysterectomy in my case because it can impact balance and my main sports are horse riding and skiing.

I've been back at my GP this morning and have been referred for a CT scan because my uterus is the size of a four month pregnancy and feels like a bag of marbles - his words, not mine. He's told me to put hysterectomy back on my agenda. I'm 52, haven't had a period since December and can't face the thought of surgery Sad.

halfpint1967 · 22/07/2015 17:21

sorry to hear that carabos.i hope everything goes ok with ct scan&results are goodSmile

i have now started my period last night!3days early again!!
the other bleeding/spotting only stopped MondaySad

OP posts:
pinkfrocks · 26/07/2015 08:23

At some point you are going to start peri. It may even be now. Reduction in cycle length or lengthening is the first sign. But in any case, 3 days either side of a 'normal' cycle is not abnormal. Hardly anyone goes the same number of days month in month out.

halfpint1967 · 02/08/2015 09:44

i had the results of my endometrial biopsy yest.
all normal thankfully!!Grin
