hi all
because of problems with polyps&heavier bleeding with clots the gyny has given me the option of having one of these
just wondering if anyone whos had this for whatever reason can tell me their experiences&if when meno really does rear its ugly head if having it done reduces any of the symptoms?they will leave ovaries behind
im48&have been told twice that im not meno or peri meno yet
tia

there is no point trying to persuade you about the Mirena, I know that, but for the record, you have posted all the negatives, which happen to a tiny number of women- just like someone could post all the negatives that occur with hysterectomies. If you look at the side effects of ANYTHING even aspirin you will find a long list because they have to include any side effects even if they only occur to one person. Some women have acne with, some women will find it doesn't suit them, but at the end of the day these all stop once it's removed. Migration (getting lost) is very rare indeed.

This site www.mirena-us.com/safety-considerations/ gives the stats and all the side effects you mentioned happen to fewer than 10 or 5 women in a hundred ( 5% or 10%.)

Migration is even rarer.

Costacoffeeplease · 14/07/2015 10:24

Yes the mirena is a miracle, everyone should have one, we get it, any chance of giving it a rest now pink ? are you on commission?

Cocolepew · 14/07/2015 10:32

I had the mirena and had to get it removed.
I also have had an ablation which was the worst thing I could have done, I wish I had taken a hysterectomy then instead.

When the lining of my womb grew back it grew into the muscles. I ended up with a womb the size if an 8 month pregnancy.

I had a vaginal hysterectomy, but my ovaries, were taken as well.
I had all ready had a bladder repair and have had no problems with it after the op.

You must do NO lifting for a few weeks. You really do need to rest.

halfpint1967 · 14/07/2015 10:38

lmao at costacoffee!!was beginning to think the same thing!!Grin
pinkfrocks thankyou for the link but think its best we agree to disagree on the MirenaSmile
cocolepew can i ask why they took the ovaries too&how old u were when u had it done?

OP posts:
Costacoffeeplease · 14/07/2015 10:49

You know, I'm so convinced I think I'll go and get one not sure where I'll put it though

Cocolepew · 14/07/2015 11:07

I had a lot of cysts on one them, I opted to have both taken out because I was worrued that ovulating might cause problems still. I had a lot of old endometriosis scarring as well.
I was 43 when I had it done.

halfpint1967 · 14/07/2015 11:12

thanks cocolepew that was alot for u to contend with
it seems like everythings gone wrong since i entered my40s!!Shock

go for it costacoffeeplease!!Grin

OP posts:
Costacoffeeplease · 14/07/2015 11:29

Grin I'll just put it in my handbag and force it on to any mirena-free women I meet!

halfpint1967 · 14/07/2015 11:40

nice idea!Grin

OP posts:
pinkfrocks · 14/07/2015 11:42

No need to be snipy costa.
Just linking to the facts for people who might want to know.
Equally I could say 'hysterectomies are great, go out and grab one girls.' Hmm

pinkfrocks · 14/07/2015 11:45

halfpint- I'm not asking you to agree, I'm posting links that show the stats just so people can read them instead of all the single experiences and exaggerations that are being posted.
Sarcasm and childish comments are just silly.

Costacoffeeplease · 14/07/2015 11:52

But the op doesn't want to know - she has made that clear, many, many times. If you want a thread in praise of the mirena - then feel free to go and start one - this thread is asking for opinions on vaginal hysterectomies

There are as many hysterical (!) exaggerations about hysterectomy on this thread as there are about mirena

Yes, I'm a very silly girl - I shall go and stand in the cornerSmile

halfpint1967 · 14/07/2015 14:33

dont forget yr dunces hat costa!Wink
thanks for all the info pinkfrocks but i am NOT interested in the Mirena&that is based on facts as well as peoples experiences&opinions as ive said beforeSmile

OP posts:
Costacoffeeplease · 14/07/2015 15:04

With a mirena coil on it instead of a capital D!

Kewcumber · 14/07/2015 15:40

This is getting silly.

I really don't get why an attempt give the facts about the mirena coil is being met with girly passive aggressive giggly comments Confused

I get OP doesn't want one - as I said I've been in a similar position and refused a Mirena.

I was very grateful in restrospect that someone took the time to talk to me about the reality of a major operation compared to attempting a much less invasive option which is entirely reversible within a few minutes with no permanent harm.

I'm also impressed with my forward thinking (private) surgeon who took quite some time to talk me into it when a hysterectomy would have earned her so much more money. She may have agreed eventually to surgery rather than try a mirena coil first but I think it was much more ethical of her to talk to me about the issues I had with the idea of a coil first and really listen to what I was saying and address my concerns.

Costacoffeeplease · 14/07/2015 16:22

Yes we did silly earlier

Op doesn't want a coil, for whatever reason, she has made that decision and expressed it very clearly, keeping banging on isn't going to change that by the sounds of it, and is just de-railing the thread unnecessarily

I injected a little humour to try and get the message across, the op got it

pinkfrocks · 14/07/2015 16:33

Humour? Maybe a dig at other posters disguised as a joke. Ha Ha.

Costacoffeeplease · 14/07/2015 16:38

Oh good, you've got it now tooSmile

FeckTheMagicDragon · 14/07/2015 16:41

I had a vaginal hystorectamy and sorted out a prolapsed vagina at the same time. Also had a spinal block, so was awake (well I actually drifted off to sleep due to the happy pill) so no post GA recovery (gate GAs).
After years of back ache, hot flushes, hormones all over the place, weight gain, non stop heavy periods (I once flooded a rental car on a long trip!) and painful sex I was so relieved. Recovery time was quicker - there was some pain (like a bad achy period pain) for the first few hours after it wore off several hours later, but they gave me diamorphine (more happy pills) then just normal painkillers did the trick. but I felt nothing before or during the op. The only thing that made me jump was the cold antiseptic they sprayed onto my back. 8 weeks later I was more or less back to normal - but it takes s year for your body to recover from any major surgery. Take it really, really easy after - for weeks, not days!
The only downside I have found is a bit of vaginal dryness - sorted with lube. 3 years later, I have hit the menopause a bit earlier than expected - but that's probably hereditary anyway. So have progesterone only gel patches.
It's all good - and I highly recommend having a spinal!

FeckTheMagicDragon · 14/07/2015 16:46

Btw - the vaginal dryness is not total, just less as they will probably remove your cervix (yay - no more smears - or risk of cervical cancer) and some women don't see any difference.

pinkfrocks · 14/07/2015 17:01

So have progesterone only gel patches.

Not oestrogen? why is that?

halfpint1967 · 14/07/2015 17:25

can i ask u how old u were when u had it done feckthemagicdragon(love that nickname by the way!Grin)
they took yr cervix away too then i assume?
how has yr pelvic floor been since u had it all done?as pinkfrocks said in some of the info u read it says that a bladder or bowel prolapse can sometimes happen after
