Normally I have nice, light, regular periods. No cramping, no pain or bloating (I know, I've been incredibly fortunate).

This month I am having the period from hell. Very heavy, feel like I've put on 2 stone in as many days, and absolutely horrific cramps that nothing is shifting.

I've spent hours in a steaming hot bath today, and just want to crawl into bed with a big mug of tea and LittleDog to cuddle.

I'm 44.

Morning all.

Mood swing city here. That's it really.

Have a good weekend everyone.

MardyBra · 18/02/2012 11:02

Oh and welcome Queen

JugglingWithTangentialOranges · 18/02/2012 17:53

Ooh, Jerin, thinking of you WRT the blood tests. Sometimes docs might check bloods for all sorts while they're about it though? Can you talk it over with anyone if you'd like to. Or are you OK waiting to see how things pan out ? I think someone like McMillan or NHS Direct might be able to make some reassuring noises on Helplines ?

jerin · 18/02/2012 20:01

Ahhh......thanks juggling. My results should be back Monday I think, so not too long now. I'm guessing if they show up real concern I'll get called back and maybe seen quicker...?

I shouldn't have googled...... I guess the constant dull ache/ heaviness could be a pulled muscle or something equally silly. Cysts, fibroids......I'll just have to wait. I do seem to tick lots of boxes but then I think I could for lots of things......

Mouseface · 18/02/2012 20:28

Jerin - My bloods are to check my hormone levels, my thyroid and a full blood count too.

I think my GP is giving my bloods the full MOT they should have had years ago.

Please don't worry about cancer..... and FFS, NEVER GOOGLE!!! You could convince yourself of almost any illness with Google.

Wait and talk to someone who knows, Call your GP and see what they say.

Queen - chase your GP, make sure they have requested the tests and then wait. It can take months for some hospitals to perform requested tests. Welcome too the mad house Grin Wink xx

Mardy - sorry that the air is blue with you my lovely. Sending hugs and chocolate your way xxxx

I'm making 'that' call on Monday to see if my test results are in, will keep you posted for those who want to know xxx

JugglingWithTangentialOranges · 18/02/2012 21:23

Thinking of you both for Monday, Jerin and Mouse Smile

Hope it's good and helpful x

Queenofcake · 18/02/2012 23:53

I have received the date for my Transvaginal scan Hmm. Cant say I am lookin forward to that one. It arrived today just after I posted actually. Its on 15th March. Am still waiting for a gynae date though.

Unfortunately I think this date is about when my next period will be, but as my cycle is getting a little bit more hit and miss its hard to know until nearer the time but its definately due around about then.

Mouseface · 19/02/2012 17:15

Queen - will they still scan if you have your period? I've had a Transvaginal scan and it's not at all painful, more uncomfortable.

I found it much less traumatic than a smear as well. I dislike smears as they always hurt me.

Can you ask the dept about if you have your period?

Big hugs xx

jerin · 19/02/2012 18:47

Thanks mouseface- I know googling is gonna scare but is (slightly) reassuring too..... Good luck for your blood results...

Queen- I think they may scan even if you have your period.....not sure..... My gp was quite happy to examine me internally even though I was at the end of my period. I was trying to make excuses to avoid.

My scan should be in about 3 weeks.....just got to wait for an appointment. What's the betting it comes thru for when I'm due to be away?

Queenofcake · 20/02/2012 14:08

Thank you for your words of reassurance although the thought of being scanned whilst having my period os cringey at the least.

I will have to wait and see when mother nature decides its period time for me and from there phone the department if I think it will coincide.

GardenersDelight · 21/02/2012 20:56

I think i might be a member, cycle all over the place, mood swings tearful etc, I'm 44 had blood test last month all normal but I'm not convinced...

JugglingWithTangentialOranges · 22/02/2012 10:59

Do you think it would be worth having a blood test to see if I am Peri ?

  • symptoms, shorter cycles, more tired, possibly more irritable, some flushes over last few years, some sweatiness at night (more recently)

Is the blood test very straight-forward ? (I'd imagine it is)
Are GPs happy to do it just to confirm what's going on, even if symptoms are manageable ? - I like to know what my body's doing/ keep myself informed !

I've always been pro-active about it eg. finding out about and preparing for birth made a big difference to me - I was lucky to have two straight-forward births. Seems like a good way to go with the Peri/ menopause too.

nowittynamehere · 23/02/2012 10:54

Hiya I have just been recommended by crazynanna to drop in here with my hot flushes I have to go out just wanted to say hi and i will be back moaning and hopefully getting advice about My personal summers as i once heard whoppi goldberg call them , personal summer my arse ,

LackaDAISYcal · 25/02/2012 22:09

Hello again :)
I've been lurking but haven't posted as my last period was ok...bang on 28 days, not too heavy apart from one minor flooding incident, only small clots and lasting five days. So far so good....fact foreard 14 days, and I broke out in spots yesterday, have been zonked out with tiredness and slept for an hour this afternoon. Woke up to hideous period type cramping, and blood and clots and am still crampy now, more so on one side than the other :(
I think I need to see my GP next week. Off to do a bit of catching up...

diddl · 28/02/2012 09:56

Hello, I know I belong hereGrin

Last period over a year ago & that one was after having none for a year!

My "thing" is that when I´ve had a wee I feel as if I haven´t finished/need to go again fairly soon.

So, it seems as if my bladder isn´t emptying completely.

Any one else?

Any tips?

MardyBra · 28/02/2012 14:13

Hello all. Welcome the thread newbies and returners.

diddl I think you're the first one with the bladder thing on the thread afaik.

diddl · 28/02/2012 16:36

Oh dear!

Off to the Drs then!

crazynanna · 28/02/2012 16:40

Coooeee!!

diddl.....I have the wee thing, and doc said could be my fibroid muscle changes pushing on the bladder. Do you get horrific mid cycle bleeds with clots?

diddl · 28/02/2012 16:42

No-only had one period in the last two yrs.

But the wee thing only started a couple of months ago.

And it´s not all day everydayConfused

crazynanna · 28/02/2012 16:44

You could have an irritable bladder. Try cutting out caffeine as atest for a while and see what happens. Do you also get the "when you gave to go...you have to go now!" thing?

JugglingWithTangentialOranges · 28/02/2012 16:44

And I think a lot of us slighter older ladies can have various troubles with our bladders but sometimes don't like to admit it.

For example I used to be able to spend a whole day "out in the field" on a geology field trip without needing a wee - whereas these days I'm cursing the lack of public conveniences when I go into town !

crazynanna · 28/02/2012 16:45

So diddl...no period for 2 years must mean you through to the other side maybe?

diddl · 28/02/2012 17:51

No, I don´t need to go as soon as I feel it iyswim.

It´s more a feeling that I need to go when I´ve just been.

Will try the caffeine cutting out.

Still getting flushes-maybe it´ll help that also!

Mouseface · 03/03/2012 14:18

Afternoon.

Well, bloods are all normal, everything is normal and yet my period is two weeks late, following the last one being 50 odd days late.

I'm wondering how long I should leave it before I go back to my GP. Or if I even should? Maybe I should be grateful that at 37, my periods are beginning to end?

I have so much pain though, period pains as if any minute now, I'm about to start bleeding. Sad

How are we all doing?

ameliagrey · 03/03/2012 18:11

Mouse did you have 2 blood tests? The thing is, you should have one test around day 3 and another after ovulation- mid month onwards. In the run up to meno your hormones will be all over so one single test is no good.
