St Margaret's - Richmond Area

We have just moved to the area and know we will settle in soon, but it taking time. I have a 5.5 year old son at the local CoE school and a 3 year old daughter who is at nursery in the mornings. Finding it tough to meet new people with the weather so cold... running around at park just too freezing. Would love some tips on local classes that are good for the children and to meet with some other mums as children settling in and meeting people all day, but mid-30s mum not finding it so easy.

There is a one o clock club in marble hill park - I think it is open one afternoon a week in winter- I use to love it
There is a one oclock club in Redlees Park in Isleworth
What about Gymboree in St Margarets
www.gymboreeplayuk.com/
Look at the st margaret's website with the children's links
There is a parent and toddler group in the Catholic church hall in St Brigets in Isleworth on the borders of St Margarets
Good luck

I haven't little ones and work most days but if you fancy meeting for a coffee let me know

Ktay · 07/01/2010 15:33

That One o'Clock Club at Marble Hill is open on Wednesdays in the winter (and every weekday from April). There's also a parent and baby/toddler group on Monday afternoons (2-4.30) at the East Twickenham Neighbourhood Association on Rosslyn Rd (nr Richmond Bridge). From memory I'm not sure whether your DD would be a bit old for it but it's only 50p for the session, can't hurt to go along! I think St Margaret's Church also runs a playgroup on Friday afternoons.

It might be an idea to take a look at the noticeboard outside Winchester Hall (by the Turk's Head pub on Winchester Rd). There are loads of children's activities that take place there, most of which I've had to rule out for my own DD as she's only 8 months old. There's also a children's centre in South Isleworth (Worple Rd) that could be worth investigating? (Unfortunately Richmond has been a bit slow off the mark introducing children's centres round here...)

Is your daughter at nursery every morning? If not, there are lots of drop-in groups in the area that take place during the morning, let me know if you'd like more info.

This area is great for families so I hope you start feeling settled soon. I'd be happy to meet for a coffee too but suspect you'd rather meet people with children of similar ages?

Bryanna · 20/01/2010 08:45

I have just moved to the area as well and loved to meet some other mums in the area. I work mon-thurs so could meet on Fridays.

LouIsOnAHighwayToHell · 20/01/2010 08:51

I live there too and have 4 DC's but are all at school so would fancy a coffee too if people are keen.
Ballet at the Crown Pub (teachers husband owns it) is very good - lots of mums. Look at Marble Hill Dance.
Not sure about classes etc for little ones apart from gymboree next to superdrug.
There are a lot of families in the area so you will meet people soon!
Welcome to the area!

eastendmummy · 20/01/2010 08:55

I moved to st margarets in August and have a 2 yo ds and expecting a second in April. I'd love to meet up with other local mums so if you can send me a message via here then we could arrange coffee?

Ktay · 20/01/2010 20:19

Hi Eastend(?!)mummy, I don't have CAT I'm afraid but would be up for coffee. How do Fridays suit everyone else (Bryanna's free day)? I meet my NCT buddies on Fridays but it's quite a loose arrangement. Will keep checking in!

eastendmummy · 21/01/2010 13:49

I really do need to change my username - we moved from Bethnal Green in August but I haven't quite got used to the fact that I'm now in West London!

Fridays suit us really well. you can email me if you want to arrange something at mawgan p at gmail dot com (no spaces, hope that makes sense)

I'm not around next Friday but the following week works for us. Hopefully meet up with you all soon.

newtostmargarets · 25/01/2010 10:47

Thank you all so much for posting. Really quite touched by responses. I hadn't really thought anyone was up for extending their circles, but am really thrilled that there people in area to perhaps meet up with for coffee. Zoran's has tonnes of space downstairs at the rear. I will be there Friday morning after school drop off - say 9:15 - for a coffee if anyone interested in joining me. Goodness, this really is like setting up a blind date

Friday sounds good to me. I have no DC so will just be me. Do we all need to wear a red carnation to signify who we are? Or just carry some nice ham?

Ktay · 26/01/2010 09:17

We probably won't be able to make this unfortunately as DD is usually asleep then. But depending on what time she wakes up from her morning nap on Friday (and assuming we can get ourselves organised in time) we might try and drop in slightly later - but don't hang around on our account. I'll have a copy of the Times tucked under my arm

Eastendgirl and I have also arranged to meet for an early lunch or late coffee the following Friday (5th Feb) - all welcome!

shroom · 26/01/2010 21:15

hi there! Hope you don't mind, I'm gatecrashing your thread, I stumbled upon it while looking for something completely different!! I too, have recently moved to St Margarets and have been a bit lazy (or should I say exhausted with a hungry baby boy!) in making an effort to meet new mums. I have a 2 yr old dd and a 6 month old ds and really need to get out a bit more. Will try and make this Friday, however ds has a nap then and he's not the easiest to go for coffee with when he's overtired and grumpy...so will have to see how our morning pans out....
Eastendgirl & Ktay, I should be able to do the following friday if you don't mind me tagging along?

LouIsOnAHighwayToHell · 26/01/2010 21:20

Ktay and Eastendgirl, mind if I tag along too?

eastendmummy · 26/01/2010 21:23

The more the merrier!! If you email me at mawgan p at gmail dot com then we can arrange it and exchange contact details. Looking forward to it!

LouIsOnAHighwayToHell · 29/01/2010 11:52

Sorry I did not make it. I completely forgot I was enthralled in defrosting the freezer. I will email you eastendmummy. See you all next week?

KateQPR · 30/01/2010 19:29

Can i jump on the coffee meet up band wagon too? Am based in Teddington but am finding myself home alone now my other mummy friends all head back to work.

New coffee friends would be good. I like coffee.

Ktay · 31/01/2010 14:19

Hi Kate, it would be lovely to see you this Friday if you're free? A few of us are planning to meet at 11.30 at Zoran's (on Crown Road), space permitting. If you haven't already done so, it might be an idea to email Eastendmummy (see above) with your contact details in case plans change nearer the time.

newtostmargarets · 02/02/2010 12:13

Looking forward to meeting up for coffee/lunch at Zoran's this Friday. I may have to be running a little late as have committed to helping out at school in the morning, but will see you as soon as I can get there. My daughter will need to come with me if this is okay. See you there.

Hi there. There are a few of us meeting tomorrow which is great, but I think that Zoran's may be a bit small to accommodate us all plus buggies etc... I think Moocha (sp?) at the top of Crown Road may be better as it's bigger inside although the food isn't as good.

Let me know if that works - have also emailed to those of you that I have addresses for.
