Anyone fancy meeting in Derby or Birmingham?

Does anyone fancy meeting in Derby or Birmingham? These cities are easiest for me as I live in Burton-on-Trent and don't drive. The end on this month or middle of JUly are best for me.

I live in Sheffield but Derby is only about 30 minutes away for me, down the M1.
I can meet Monday afternoons, or Fridays. Once we are in the summaer holidays I am free most days!

GillW · 03/06/2003 13:18

Could do Birmingham - but weekday daytimes are out as I have to work (and work is nowhere near Birmingham).

Mocha · 03/06/2003 23:01

I can do either weekday or weekend. daytin#mes are preferable as DD does not settle if I go out and leave her in the evening

Derby is a dream for me as it is only a 10-15 minute drive away.

Our summer hols start on 7 July so I'd be able to bring DD along which might be nice for her and may be nicer for me, not being the only child-free person there.

Claireandrich - how old is/are your child(ren)?

Mocha · 04/06/2003 06:57

I am away the week of July 7, but could do the next couple of weeks after that

WedgiesMum · 04/06/2003 10:26

I can do Derby too as am just 20 mins up the road.

I have DS aged 4 and DD 2 - Monday pm Friday pm best for me until School hols when is all day Mon and Tues and Fri pm.....

Claireandrich · 04/06/2003 10:42

My DD is 14 months old (or will be tomorrow).

If in sumer holidays I can do most days as I am a teacher and not working then!!! Yay! Don't have anything planned at start of holidays either. However, 7th July isn't our summer holidays - not until 18th for us.

If before then I can do Fridays all day, or Monday pm.

Claireandrich · 08/06/2003 20:52

This seems to have gone quiet recentlly. Thought I'd post and get it active again, to see if there is still any interest.

XAusted · 08/06/2003 21:07

If you decide to meet in Derby, I can recommend a couple of places. Might even come along if feeling brave and there are going to be older children. (Have a dd 6 and ds 4.)

SueW · 08/06/2003 22:55

If it to be daytime, I would much rather leave it until the school holidays and bring DD along which probably means waiting until mid-July for most people.

Mocha · 09/06/2003 03:10

How does Monday 21st July suit everyone?

OP posts:
XAusted · 09/06/2003 13:53

Not for me but could do any other day that week!

XAusted · 09/06/2003 13:55

Suggestion: meet at Markeaton Park. Loads to do there and if it rains there's a McDonalds with an indoor play area just over the road.

SueW · 09/06/2003 15:22

Markeaton's lovely but it would be difficult for Mocha coming into the rail station unless someone could pick her up.

We haven't booked yet but apparently that's the week my mum has earmarked for us going away with her.

WedgiesMum · 09/06/2003 20:59

I can do Mon or Tues of that week - and if Mocha needs a lift and only has one child I can pick up from the station without much hassle.

Just so you know XAusted I have a DS who is 4 so you could be OK to bring yours - he especially loves playing with the 'bigger kids' rather than his 2yo sister!!

After that could then do 4/5 Aug.....

Claireandrich · 09/06/2003 21:09

Is Markeaton park in Derby? If so, I can make that week as it is the first week in half term. Monday I can only do in the afternoon though. Can't do the Friday though as off to Edinburgh.

SueW · 09/06/2003 21:25

Markeaton Park is at the junction of the A52 and A38. It's huge - there are loads of areas for children to run around, large selection of play equipment, a craft village with a paint-a-pot shop and some very nice things to browse if you are contemplating large purchases like a pirate ship playhouse for hundreds of pounds

There's also a miniature railway IIRC, boating lake, donkey rides in the summer. Bouncy castle, paddling pool, go-karts, crazy golf. Acres of space to run around or just picnic in.

We don't go there often enough to be honest. We always have a brilliant time when we do.

Claireandrich · 09/06/2003 21:31

Sounds great. My route will be down the A38 so shouldn't be too hard to find. Must be reasonably near the school I used to teach at - Ecclesbourne in Duffield.

Mocha · 09/06/2003 22:16

I can do any day that week. WedgiesMum I only have 1 child and would be grateful for a lift.
What time are we meeting?

OP posts:
NQWWW · 10/06/2003 14:12

Hello all - I'm from Derby originally (born in Duffield actually Claireandrich, but didn't go to the Ecclesbourne sadly, although my cousins did) and might be up there around that time - if so is it OK if I tag along? Whereabouts in Markeaton would you meet up?

easy · 10/06/2003 14:19

Can we come? we live north nottingham, and I know the area ever so well, and ds and I love outings whenever possible .

Just one thing, I won't be walking miles thru the park. Just recovering from hip operation, but now out and about, and another month or so can work wonders.

I can collect someone enroute if anyone needs a lift.

Just let me know when

Looking forward to it

Claireandrich · 10/06/2003 14:51

So is anyone brave enough to suggest a date and time?

XAusted · 10/06/2003 20:52

Ecclesbourne, Claireandrich? Wow, very posh! Markeaton is just beyond the University as you come down the A38.

There are two car parks at Markeaton. Easiest to find is off "Markeaton Island", the roundabout at the junction of the A38 and A52. OTOH, the other car park is closer to the play areas which might be helpful for Easy if she doesn't want to walk far.

Tuesday 22 July???

Mocha · 10/06/2003 21:13

Tuesday 22nd is fine by me.

What about 12.30pm?

XAusted · 10/06/2003 21:17

Suits me!
