Outdoor sandwich lunch in the City - Wed, 22nd June

I didn't want to tread on Kayleigh's toes as she is such a fab organiser, but I am going on maternity leave at the end of June and I wanted to catch up with the City gals before I go.

How about Wednesday, 22nd June, at 12.30 in Finsbury Circus? On the grass, with sandwiches and rest of lunch etc........

Assuming it is dry......

I would suggest the grassy end nearest Moorgate - I might even bring a rug.......

Any takers?

CarlyP and Soapbox would be great if you both could make it.

beachyhead · 15/06/2005 16:54

Bumpity bumpity - it will be great to meet some newbies to meetups.......

I think a rainy day alternative (bearing in mind today!!) should be Pizza Express on London Wall, as that is very close by.

I'm sure we'll be hugely lucky with the weather though!!!!!

Just to restate - next Wednesday, 22nd on the grass in Finsbury Circus at the Moorgate end - the end nearest Next at 12.30. BYO !!!!!

I'm not sure I'm going to be able to make this one Beachyhead, lots of work on at the moment. A bit of a shock to the system this new job malarkey - I'm actually expected to do stuff.
I'll do my best, but if I miss it I definitely want to come along when you bring the littleun along.

KBear · 17/06/2005 20:55

I'm going (she says confidently and not being a scaredy cat)!

NotQuiteCockney · 17/06/2005 21:17

KBear, do you want to meet me ahead of time? Or just use me as someone to make finding us easier? I'll be wearing a light beige hat, and carrying a very cheerful nearly-nine-month-old.

If you want to meet ahead of time, CAT me.

KBear · 17/06/2005 21:36

NQC - Thanks so much but I won't arrange to meet you because anything could crop up at work and I wouldn't want to leave you standing about waiting for me! I will look out for the beige hat though - ta!

I'm really confident usually - I just feel a wally walking up to a bunch of strangers and saying "are you mumsnetters"! ha ha

NotQuiteCockney · 17/06/2005 21:43

I know what you mean, I felt a bit nervous before I went to my first restaurant meet ... but the thing is, there will probably be only one group of likely-looking women, not least because we'll be keeping an eye out for more arrivals.

I must hassle JJ to come.

Janie7 · 20/06/2005 08:57

K Bear, just an idea, but have you thought of carrying a bag from a baby shop to the lunch? Since such bags are not part of the usual City dress code, then in the absence of our little ones, I am hoping that they will help other MNers identify us!

beachyhead · 20/06/2005 15:59

Bumping as it is this week....

so far, picnicing ladies are:

NQC
Kayleigh
Marina
KBear
frogs
Janie7
Countessdracula
CarlyP
Soapbox
Sponge (maybe)

Great turnout so far - anybody got a weather forecast?

See you Wednesday - 12.30 - Finsbury Circus

Beachyhead, really sorry but I'm not going to be able to make it. DS1 is off on a field trip from school for 3 days (yikes!!) and I will be seeing him off weds morning at 10 so I'm going to be working from home. Good luck with your maternity leave and I look forward to meeting baby Beachy soon.
Love and xxx's

frogs · 20/06/2005 19:22

Bowing out, I'm afraid -- have just been told I have to be at Woolwich Magistrates Court on Wednesday afternoon. Rats. But hope you all have a good time. Weather forecast is good, as far as I know.

NotQuiteCockney · 20/06/2005 19:40

Sunny, high of 28C. Blah. Looks like I'll be biking it.

(I know, sunny is good for a picnic. But this hot weather is killing me.)

I will bring my +1 as usual. Anyone else bringing a baby?

beachyhead · 21/06/2005 10:33

Anyone else up for a sandwich tomorrow lunchtime in the City?????

OP posts:
Sponge · 21/06/2005 16:43

Sorry Beachyhead but I've got far too much work on so won't be able to come this time.

beachyhead · 21/06/2005 17:11

sorry to hear about those who can't come - bump for the evening mums (ie. those good souls who don't log on at work!!!!)

OP posts:
KBear · 21/06/2005 18:07

I'm still coming - not looking forward to the hot trains tomorrow - been floating in the new pool I bought (for the kids!!!) today and it was blissful.

Looking forward to meeting you all.

NotQuiteCockney · 22/06/2005 07:54

Ack, they're now saying, high of 31!

I should still make it, although timing may be a bit funny. DS2's morning nap can be anywhere from 45 minutes to 3 hours.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing people.

Marina · 22/06/2005 08:03

I'm out of the loop I'm afraid - ds is ill again (not seriously). He must have his Mumsnet Sabotage Radar on
Have a lovely time - Finsbury Circus always seems cool to me even in the hottest weather NQC, it's the trees and the Corporation frantically sprinklering their bowling green.

Chickyboo · 22/06/2005 08:42

I might pop along...are you all working mums?

I live quite nearby.

NotQuiteCockney · 22/06/2005 09:17

Chickyboo, I'm a SAHM. I live in Mile End.

I think most of the people who come are working mums, though.

soapbox · 22/06/2005 10:15

Sorry to pull out but some bright spark decided to put some meetings in my diary without checking with me

Maybe next time!

Have a lovely time

KBear · 22/06/2005 10:38

anyone else still going to this?

beachyhead · 22/06/2005 10:51

Yes, I'm coming - don't make me eat lunch on my own........
I'll be there at 12.30 - wearing brown linen skirt and speckly top and 7 months pregnant!!!! At the Next end.

OP posts:
KBear · 22/06/2005 10:54

beachy - I'm coming! Cream linen trousers, stripey top, big bright pink bag, short dark hair and glasses!!

Karen

NotQuiteCockney · 22/06/2005 11:03

I'm coming. V. short black/grey hair, pale grey hat. Big baggy burgundy shorts, not sure what top. Oh, yeah, and a very smiley friendly baby, and no pram.
