Calling all mumsnetters

On another thread "How do you recognise a mumsnetter at the park" we got to discussing having a night away and there have been a few who seem keen for this.

Therefore, I thought I would alert all mumsnetters to the fact that we are considering having a night away after the summer holidays. We haven't really decided whether it will be in the UK or on a cheap flight to somewhere in Europe. Apologies to those living in farther reaches who are unable to make either of these options.

As June draws to a close I'll start investigating what our options are. I'll be looking for a place that can accommodate children so if you wish to or need to bring yours then you can and won't miss out.

Please let me know of all the things I/we need to consider as I'm sure I haven't even scratched the surface. Tips on places are also appreciated and anybody wanting to help let me know.

What I'll do is collate all the ideas, tips and hints you give and then put it out for a majority verdict.

I'd be up for this - one of the drawbacks of the meetups I've been to so far is the fact that you run out of time before you've had a chance to talk enough (or is that just me!).

Meanmum · 27/04/2003 22:02

I've heard that meet ups don't seem to allow enough time so don't think it is just you. When we do eventually meet please tell me to shut up as I can talk underwater.

My mum used to come off the phone to absolutely anyone and say "they were chatty" (even the cold caller people). I'm very much like her in the chatting stakes and I've always been paranoid that people come off the phone to me and say "she just wouldn't shut up!".

I would just say that you'll get more takers if you don't include children or dh's .... so Amsterdam it is then!

CAM · 27/04/2003 22:16

Or a chateau in Northern France....

Tortington · 27/04/2003 22:24

cam u have the best suggestions! do they have a Grand Hotel there btw

SueW · 27/04/2003 23:05

Barcelona would be nice in September...

whymummy · 27/04/2003 23:43

i`ve got it!! october!!,berlin!!,beer festival!!! yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees!!
i know,i know i need to get out more

CAM · 28/04/2003 09:55

Custy, yes, more than one!! Barcelona is a good idea but it is much cheaper to fly to Amsterdam. There are French chateaus less than 1 hour drive from calais and the Dover-Calias ferry takes about 1 hour.

It looks like we need something that can cater for the alcohol consumption in the evening and the hangover in the morning.

i agree meanmum, also we could arrange for a babysitter for those who bring the children, they could all have a little party in the hotel room that way we can all have a really good night out
ps. i`m not bringing mine

Meanmum · 28/04/2003 10:44

Yes, I was thinking along the lines of a babysitter(s) for the kids. Nice idea for the kids to have a party too. I'll definitely keep that on the list. I won't be bringing mine either and have made the decision that I'm not going to leave dh with a million instructions but just let him get on with it. Based on other threads it will be good for him and he will manage without any issues.

mammya · 28/04/2003 13:40

Woould love to go to Amsterdam but Barcelona sounds good too...

Meanmum · 28/04/2003 13:48

Amsterdam is sounding very possible from the responses. I'm keen for anywhere to be honest. Desperate or what?

Amsterdam features for me for all the obvious reasons.

LOL on prices - Barcelona is one of the cheapest places to fly to from here thanks to both easyjet and bmibaby flying out of East Mids airport!

whymummy · 29/04/2003 17:17

i know is too late for this but maybe next year we could go....wait for it....the tomato festival in spain!!how therapeutic would that be?all of us making a great big mess instead of the kids!!
