SATURDAY THE 16TH OF JULY, in Manchester.

At the moment we are thinking family friendly picnic at Heaton Park and then a girls night out, we haven't got the evening and hotel sorted yet but we will soon! It would be great if you could say if you're planning on coming to the daytime picnic and or the evening things!

OP posts:
mancmum · 14/04/2005 12:56

this southern mancer can make it!!

marthamoo · 14/04/2005 12:58

Jools, I read Jools and thought JanH: I'm getting old

fastasleep · 14/04/2005 13:01

Just popping on to say thanks to everyone who wants to come! It's going to be great! I hope loads more of you are up for it

mancmum · 14/04/2005 13:19

not read thread in huge detail - but what is the night plan is it Tascas on Deansgate? have any times been set for any of it --- are we bringing partners?

fastasleep · 14/04/2005 13:24

mancmum its not till July! So no times yet, yes we're hoping for Tasca's on Deansgate, you can bring whoever you like my dear! I need to get the number of people who want to go to the restaurant so that I can book in advance, hopefully it will be early evening so there isn't too much of a gap for those of us going from the picnic to the restaurant - I'll probably start a numbers for the evening thing thread in the near future so I can call and get it sorted

huggybear · 14/04/2005 14:17

i'm coming to the park and evening thing as well

fastasleep · 14/04/2005 16:17

Cool huggybear...at least someone has faith in my phoning and booking skills lol

huggybear · 14/04/2005 16:32

never been to manchester or met up with strangers before. Hope you are all normal, i mean do 'normal' people just take off to manchester to meet up with total strangers?

what if your not women at all but big hairy (ok, sensitive and witty) biker blokes who are going to kidnap me and eat me for dinner!!!!! [panic]

fastasleep · 14/04/2005 16:38

Well some people around here wouldn't call me normal...and Cod once accused me of being a hairy handed bloke...

IRL I'm an 18 year old slightly pudgy shy pregnant girl - but shhh don't tell!

marthamoo · 14/04/2005 16:46

fastasleep are you really only 18? You sound much older !

fastasleep · 14/04/2005 16:47

Ah you see I've had like a trillian past lives and I feel about 35...

Ok I just feel about 35 because I did everything too young and I'm stuck here in maturity now! (Again some people would disagree with that! )

huggybear · 14/04/2005 16:48

fastasleep - snap. am got married at 18, 2 kids and im still just 22

fastasleep · 14/04/2005 16:53

See! After all that worrying about me being a scary man and we've got stuff in common already lol

marthamoo · 14/04/2005 17:00

Bloody hell, I'm not coming now - I'll be ancient.

Oh no, it's OK, Jools is going...

huggybear · 14/04/2005 17:02

How about the Manchester Youth Hostel for accommodation? Take a look at the website:-www.yha.org.uk

Manchester Youth Hostel Address:-
Potato Wharf, Castlefield, Manchester
Manchester
M3 4NB
Phone:
Within UK 0870 770 5950
Outside UK (+44) 161 839 9960
Email: [email protected]

You could check if it's possible to do a group booking or even rent a hostel (you can with some hostels at some times of year). You don't now have to be members. You just pay a bit extra as non members.

fastasleep · 14/04/2005 17:57

We're doing picnic - heaton park, then onto La Tasca, no time for that yet, and then to random bars and clubs (they're all central)

fastasleep · 14/04/2005 18:01

The youth hostel looks good

tiptop · 14/04/2005 18:16

I'm glad! The Travelodge Website is well worth a look, too. We've stayed there several times using their £26 a room offer. I think I'm right in saying that occasionally they have even better offers, too, but limited availability on only on certain dates and in certain Lodges.

fastasleep · 14/04/2005 18:18

I was going to reccommend the Travelodge, as it's right by the bars, think I'll reccommend both now! Not sure as yet how many people are staying over...!

Whizzz · 14/04/2005 18:58

OOOh not too far away for me !!
Sounds a possibility !
What happens if its raining though ?
Soggy picnic ? Is there an alternative idea?

tiptop · 14/04/2005 19:15

Just checked the Hostel's details again. You can't rent the hostel (ie have it all to yourselves, with just the staff there but not Joe Public), but it does say that they have conference facilities. If lots of you were staying there, perhaps you could make use of those facilities?

Newbarnsleygirl · 15/04/2005 08:30

It's nice to see lots of people are going

bit of news, I'm only going to be able to make the picnic with dh and dd in tow probably!

Whats it like for parking round there? I'll be coming in the car if dh is coming.
Am also panicking slightly about recognising people.

FA, Didn't realise you were that young (not being patronising, I'm only 22)

fastasleep · 15/04/2005 09:05

I haven't come up with a secondary plan yet, I was sort of hoping that there would be like a huge aquarium or something right next to the park but no such luck lol.... I'll find some sort of rainy option!

It's ok if you can just come to the picnic, I reckon that's going to be the fun bit!

mummytosteven · 15/04/2005 09:06

rainy option - museum of science and industry in central manchester - has a good kids part and a steam train???
