Ooh actually, ladies - opinions on Medway Maritime Hospital? I'm going to be having baby there. Although, if you say that it's crap there it's a little too late to change now lol. I did the tour and it SEEMS ok.

RGPargy · 31/08/2008 20:28

Cant tell you i'm afraid! I had DS in All Saints Hospital which has now been knocked down and i had a homebirth with DD. I've heard it's very good tho - i'm sure you'll be fine!

AnnVan · 01/09/2008 11:25

Thanks RG

dylsmum1998 · 01/09/2008 21:55

my ds was at all saints, my dd was born at medway, must say she was too quick to know much about anything tho i was only in the labour room 7 whole mins before she was born!!
do find out where the labour ward is before you get there we couldnt find it!! took us 10 mins to find it.
the staff were very suprised at how far i was when i got there- they didnt even have time to put the gas and air together properly.
good luck

AnnVan · 02/09/2008 13:39

dylsmum - I've done the tour, so I think I can remember where to find the labour ward. It's conveniently situated on the opposite side of the hospital from the main entrance, and on the 4th floor, as far as I remember.

Hi. I had DD at Maritime. Pls don't think I want to worry you cos sure you won't have my rotten luck. DD was 4 days late when I started getting pains on the Thursday. The pains kept me up most of the night. 24 hrs later I'm hooked up to Tens machine, swearing. I admitted myself to hospital 2a.m despite being told they would likely turn me away but they said I was 5-6cm gone. I had gas and air, then pethidine. Then that wore off and I had nearly 2 hrs with no pain relief before trying to push. They realised she was stuck and I had an emergency section at midday Saturday.midwife i had at the end was brill. Staff very friendly, but no-one showed me how to bath her (they did everyone else). No-one offered me toast and tea when they did the rounds (I had been awake for 36 hrs and no food for approx 14 hrs). My bed was in a corner so maybe they missed me?? The medway apparently has a history of sections. I know I needed one, but I have met a few people who had one there, and everyone on my ward had had one. To top it off I had a bed sore which I couldn't see until home. My Mum's a nurse and she was disgusted I had one. while still preggie, I was told I could go to Maidstone hospital, but they were having their MRSA scares. Perhaps they're better now......

RGPargy · 04/09/2008 11:01

lol Frankie! You've scared her away!

AnnVan · 04/09/2008 12:59

Oh hello - no not been scared away. Taking on board what you said though frankie! Hope I don't have that luck though, am terrified of having a c-section!

frankiecat · 04/09/2008 13:30

Hi, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to! It's not nice, but as my mate kept reminded me - at least your perineum stays intact so no leaky problems later!!! my scars gone now too. shame the overhang and numbness still here!!!!

AnnVan · 04/09/2008 13:38

That's true Frankie - always look on the bright side! (I've been petrified of c-section from the start so don't worry about that! I've never had surgery or anything vaguely like it before) I had checked out the stats for Medway and their intervention stats are just over the national average, apparently.
I've also heard some good things about the place from some people, so I guess there's no such thing as a hospital that is perfect is there? At least I won't be having baby at Newham General (london) which is where I would have had to go if we hadn't moved out here!(that's a real Sh**hole of a hospital)

dylsmum1998 · 04/09/2008 13:54

annvan you're still waiting then you poor thing. hope lo hurries up for you
i can't fault the midwifes/nursing staff there, they were brilliant when i had dd.
had one midwife and a student when i hd dd. the midwife i took a dislike to- she seemed very abrupt when i got there, i dont suppose i was at my most polite either
she had to rush off to another delivery once i had dd, she popped back in 15 mins to see how i was doing we had a chat and i realised she wasnt abrupt but as she was german and her english came across quite abrupt, she was very lovely helped me get breastfeeding going then came and found me on the side ward an hour later to make sure we were still doing ok. i'd had major problems breastfeeding my ds and gave up after a few days, but really wanted to feed dd and she came to reassure me and support me with that.
wow this has ended up a much longer post than i meant

AnnVan · 04/09/2008 14:12

Thanks dylsmum - Yes I am still waiting. I had a reflexology appointment yesterday, and had cramps all through last night and the early hours of this morning. Now after a few hours sleep -nothing. Going to take a walk into Rochester with MIL and that should hopefully help things along again.

RGPargy · 04/09/2008 14:20

Poor you AnnVan!! Hope LO comes along really soon!!

AnnVan · 04/09/2008 14:35

Thanks RG - actually not too stressed now, as at least i know things are finally starting to getgoing!

RGPargy · 04/09/2008 14:59

Oh deffo exciting stuff! Hope you have a really lovely birth (like i did!) - please let us know when things really start to happen!!

frankiecat · 04/09/2008 22:09

So if anyone is still up then are you all meeting up? and when?

RGPargy · 05/09/2008 10:56
