Crashed a care home party?

Definitely our strangest Meetup event so far. A couple of months ago, I received an invite from someone who manages the official Facebook page for an elderly care home inviting us all to their ‘Romanian Open Day’! I jumped at the offer and created an event and we all pitched up today.

About half an hour after arriving and making our way through the generous buffet, an angry manager stormed over and asked us why we were there. I explained and showed her my invite from her colleague.

Long story short, we weren’t actually meant to be there and had crashed a party that was meant to be for care home residents only, and the member of staff who invited us is in so much trouble!!!

We were also left to our own devices when it came to walking around the building - there was no chaperone or anything. Surely a safeguarding concern?

You attended a resident only buffet in a care home,a vague acquaintance invited
you
it’s wholly inappropriate. Random members of public in care setting with vulnerable adults
Staff need an enhanced DBS, you rock up unchecked for a free buffet
Staff member should be suspended and probably sacked. It’s compromised safety, multiple potential risk inc safeguarding

I do agree with you TBH. We weren’t even chucked out. We just left of our own accord soon after being spoken to because we felt awkward! We were then allowed to walk around the entire building completely unsupervised

What are you going to do?
you can tell CQC or local authority about the unsupervised access and your concerns
Fortunately you didn’t have nefarious intent, but that’s not the point
i would report it

Thank you - I’ll look into it now! Just wondering what else goes on there now!!

It’s very bizzare and random. Fortunately you had no ill intent
But yiu could have had, and the point is the vulnerable adults were potentially put at risk
