Dear All,
Recently immigrated to UK, Beckenham with my family . My daughter is 10. She is still not in school and waiting for placement. It’s been 2 weeks and really need help with activities or club i can put her in to keep her busy in meantime. It’s been hard settling in so far especially for her. I don’t seem to find anything suitable, even if half day. At the moment i am working as well from home and so is my husband. Thank you

There won't be clubs or activities as children are at school.

Get her enrolled at the library.

It's coming up to half term so you might find a few things going on but they will require you to be there as well.

Swimming, bowling, lots of parks. Google half term activities in Bromley.

Maybe set her up with some activities at home, BBC Bitesize have lots of educational stuff?

Twinkl is a good resource, also online. You need a printer though!

What schools are you looking at?

Attictroll · 09/02/2024 14:08

There should be some after school clubs maybe even close to the schools nearest to you. If she is 10 is that y6 or y5. There tends to be little movement in y6 so close to secondary- if she is y 6 sort the secondary stuff as a priority.

I'm not In Beckenham but near ish but I know they have a beckenham mums fb group. There is a dance school on Beckenham high st I think and look into swimming lessons at the SPA. Also look at things at Crystal Palace.

Which schools are you looking at.

Thank you all so much. We have been looking at Clare House, the two Harris Primary and Worsley. We should get answer i guess after half term. I will surely look at the suggestions given. Really appreciate it, thank you

Good luck. I have known people with kids at the Harris schools through a sport dc plays both very happy but most Bromley Beckenham primary's are good so I would go and look at any they offer you. The Facebook group is called Beckenham mums ....just looked it up. Why don't you post the same question you put here there 😊

The Harrises are good and Clare House is pretty good too as far as I know, but Worsley didn't have a good rep back when I was looking at them.

The munchkins holiday camps are pretty good too. Is your daughter sporty? Those and Buzzers are more games related but Jaime's gymnastics usually have a half term camp too.

You can always take the train into town one day too - it's 30 minutes straight into London Bridge and there's usually events on in the Southbank Centre, and a playground under the London eye. It's a nice walk from London Bridge to Waterloo (past Shakespeare's Globe, the Tate Modern and lots of street performers) and both train stations will have trains on the Hayes line so you can go in to one and back from the other.
