As I'm up there for the week with DS's in tow and would love to meet some of you.

Would have to be a day time one as I can't rely on my brother to baby-sit too often, so I'll have the DS's with me.........

I might be able to make it - I'm just over the water in Fife - but it depends on whether DH is away and I'm tearing my hair out!

motherhurdicure, I've replied to one of your older threads about silversmithing stuff BTW.

ahh yes - just had a look on their website - pretty easy to get to - not sure where exactly the buses from Gilmerton stop in the centre - but it's within easy walking distance of any of the possible places where we'd get off.

Looks reasonably priced too (compared to our local soft play centres where it's aboug £1.50 a child and nothing near as exciting looking as that is!)

FAQ - I live quite near Gilmerton. I might be able to give you a lift if a meet up is arranged somewhere off the bus route. How old are your sons? I have an assortment of carseats as I am a childminder.

FAQ · 27/01/2008 21:40

mawbroon - they're 7,4 and 8 months - I'll have all their car seats with me (as I'll have to get a taxi to/from the bus station when I arrive/leave) - 2 booster cushions, and 1 infant car seat.

Oh sorry FAQ, for some reason, I thought you had 2 ds's, not 3. Oh dear, we wouldn't all fit in my car....

FAQ · 27/01/2008 21:49

well I did wonder LOL.

That's ok - I'll be bus-ing around all week - and I'm very excited to try one of these "low rider" buses of which I've heard so much (we don't have them round here......actually I lie - they introduced a few of them last year but I never have the need to use them so have always wondered what it must be like getting onto a bus without having to do the whole baby in arms, folding pushchair, finding money thing like I had to with DS1 and 2

DS1 was 7 in September, DS2 was 4 in November, so yes very close in age!

I know Gilmerton is miles away - but I intend to be hopping on the bus (is it true that they're ridiculously cheap???) every day and heading into the town.

I hear rumours (from Expat herself LOL) that she's going to come across so we can meet, Karen999 and I have already started plotting a night of wine drinking "somewhere" (my brother has agreed to babysit ), have a friend from my school days who I have been in extremely infrequent contact with but who has invited me and the DS's over to hers for coffee..........I've also promised DS1 we can go to the castle........expensive but hey ho.

Then hopefully a "proper" MN edinburgh meet-up, I'll take them over to St. Mary's Cathedral and probably up to the school too so they can see where I went to school etc etc.

I'm sure I'll soon fill the week up !

FAQ · 27/01/2008 22:51

well actually MH - my brother has a good friend who works for Historic Scotland has said that he can't make me any promises..............but he may be able to sort something out so that I can take them inside.

Otherwise it'll be up to the bit where the Tattoo is held to admire the castle and views

oh god I'd never get on just to get to the other end of Princes St - far too many shops to visit on the way up (we're rather deprived of shops in our town - so it'll be like heaven to window shop in Edinburgh)

oh - and thanks for keeping it bumped..........I'll do the same with my inane waffle.........mind you I'll probably put everyone off the idea with my incessant drivel

I would be interested not got much planned for February and I have yet to make it to a Scottish meet up.

FAQ · 28/01/2008 13:35

and purplemonkey - if they do ask you to pay I'm sure we could sort you out -.

mellowma - I know where the Murrays are. I am about 2 or 3 mins in the car west of there. It's a small world!

FAQ - it's only around 25 mins on the bus into town, so really not out in the sticks at all it's is £1 flat fare per journey, or £2.50 for a day ticket gives you unlimited use of the buses. I'm not sure about kids prices off the top of my head though. I think it's free up to age 5 so it would just be fares for you and ds1. And don't get too excited about the low buses. They only allow one pushchair on unfolded, so if the bus arrives and there's another buggy on there, then you either have to fold and get all harassed or wait for the next bus and hope there's not another buggy on it!

FAQ · 28/01/2008 13:50

I know mawbroon - but when I was at school in Ediburgh/staying with friends in the holidays we were never more than 5/10 minutes walk from Princes Street - so 25 minutes on the bus is MILES away.

£2.50 for a day ticket sounds quite good value (to me). I used to pay (about 3yrs ago) nearly £1 for a single into town .........a 10 minute bus ride away!.

And I know they only allow one pushchair on unfolded - but for someone that's never stepped foot onto a low bus, and had only seen one in RL for the first time last year it's wildly exciting .

mawbroon · 28/01/2008 14:00

LOL - yes, it's all relative isn't it! Having moved back to Edinburgh from West Lothian, 25 mins is great in comparison to negociating the M8
