MRSR - just realised that if I type your name like that it looks like a well know Hossie grime-loving bug LOL!!

Have advertised our room and a really nice sounding woman is coming to see it on Saturday (a local nanny - I am starting to fantsise about having a lodger who can babysit!).

HELP - I am starting to agree with the Daily Mail . Todays issue has within it:

  • "Breast cancer linked to contaminated fish" (Very interesting)
  • "Controversial MMR jab to have Chicken Pox jab added" (a jab too many - right on sister)
  • "Stephen Lawrence 5 original racist suspects re-arrested after DNA breakthorugh" (fan-bloody-tastic - about time!!!)

Is this a sign of true middle age hitting me?

fitfox · 08/11/2007 22:09

WTF is everyone tonight?

sfxmum · 09/11/2007 08:21

the daily mail? not middle age but very worrying

SJ99 · 09/11/2007 09:18

Hi All

How is everyone?

DS seems to be on top form although a little tired so hope vomiting was a one off side effect. Anyway will take him swimming this morning see how we get on.

What is everyone else up to?

We're supposed to go to friend's engagement party tonight but Dh said he might have to work late He's been working crazy hrs this past few weeks, got in at 1am last night Maybe I'll have to go on my own...

Have fun at your party Mrs R

SJ99 · 09/11/2007 09:20

Oh and Happy Diwali
Even the Tweenies just had a Diwali themed programme on, was impressed!

lemonaid · 09/11/2007 09:27

Why were you reading the Daily Mail in the first place, foxie?

SushiMummy · 09/11/2007 09:29

Happy Diwali indeed!

When do you want us at your place this weekend, QC? Is Gherkin-kun any better?

sfxmum · 09/11/2007 09:33

happy Diwali (stll don't like the Tweenies)

we, I hope will be heading for Kew soon I really could do with a walk and I really like these cold bright crisp days.

maybe this Daily Mail thing is aversion therapy
I have friends who are very left wing and their 20 something son has view somewhere to the right of Ghengis Kan

MrsRecycle · 09/11/2007 09:34

Room for 2 Chippy? Certainly - I think its elsebells, my df(of6!) and me at the mo. I hadn't really thought about time - I guess around 1am as it's not starting until 8pm. I'll CAT you.

The problem (OK, actually one of many) with the Daily Mail is that they report as fact or government policy stuff that just isn't.

Take the chicken pox vaccine -- what has actually happened?

  • Some researchers have written an academic paper in an academic journal reviewing a year's worth of chicken pox cases and have concluded that complications and deaths don't just occur in easily-identifiable "vulnerable" people, so that if you wanted to prevent complications occurring altogether the only way to achieve that would be to vaccinate all children, as a policy targeting only the vulnerable wouldn't work.
  • The accompanying editorial more or less rules out adding a chicken pox vaccine to the MMR and actually suggests concentrating on immunising teenagers who haven't already had chicken pox.
  • There is a government review going on (carried out by a sub-group of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation) into whether a standard vaccine should be introduced in England & Wales, but it hasn't reported yet. There is no particular expectation that the review will suggest adding chicken pox to the MMR, even if it were to suggest vaccinating all children.

And what do we get in the Daily Mail? "Controversial MMR jab to have Chicken Pox jab added"

MrsRecycle · 09/11/2007 09:41

Sorry wasn't around last night Foxie - it was dh's birthday and dds had arranged a tea-party for him. A most sober birthday if ever. Mind you I think he'll be making up for it this weekend and next.

MRSR - I think you've created a new bug there - better patent it quick

if you want to add me to facebook (that goes for the rest of the "gang" from yesterday and Mrs R too.)

ChippyMinton · 09/11/2007 11:42

Thank you Mrs R (my email is playing up today, so don't worry if you don't hear from me, i'm not ignoring you, I am growling at tiscali)

fitfox · 09/11/2007 13:02

Good point Lemon! I think the Mail appeals to all of our base emotions really - knee jerk emotional reactions really. Interesting about Stephen Lawrence though - haven't seen it mentioned elsewhere.

Happy Diwali everyone - a colleague here made samosas and bahjis for everyone, which I missed

We have a big staff Diwali lunch on 15th

Am I missing out??

Quint: What gang from yesterday (did everyone meet up)?

Has QC invited people over this weekend then? Or are you just dropiing toys off Sushi? [nosey emoticon]

When is our next Grrls night in/out then?

SushiMummy · 09/11/2007 13:27

Hi foxie! Was hoping QC'd suggest a small meet-up at hers this weekend...[cheeky emoticon] Where's QC?

SJ99 · 09/11/2007 13:28

mmm samosas, think I will have some for my tea!

Paddle, last night at story time, DS kept saying your DD's name and reached out for her picture, so sweet!

Kewcumber · 09/11/2007 13:43

Oh Sushi - may have to take a rain check on visit - or at least leave it until Sunday as DS is not at all well. Took him to Dr this morning and poor little mite has bronchitis .

He is being such a good boy but he goes through phases of feeling OK and phases of being quite poorly and wheezy. AB's started so hoping a day or two and he'll be feeling much better.

SJ99 · 09/11/2007 13:45

Poor little Gherkin, hope he feels better soon

SushiMummy · 09/11/2007 13:58

Oh no! Poor Gherkin-kun. Hope he gets better soon. Don't worry about this weekend.

fitfox · 09/11/2007 15:23

QC [big hugs] to your DS - poor mite

Children are really brave when they are ill and rarely complain and whinge like adults.

sfxmum · 09/11/2007 15:36

QC poor little gherkin and poor you - hope he recovers quickly

we are having curry for dinner hope dh get's some samosas it is one of dd's favourite things all the crunchy bits mostly.

it was lovely out despite the cold but dd has been a bit of a terror going up to people talking to them and getting rather miffed if they don't reply
'mummy the old lady is not talking to me she is very rude'

ChippyMinton · 09/11/2007 16:22
