Older mums in Edinburgh - meet-up in progress

Hi - Calling again for any other older mums in Edinburgh - there are three of us now. Do get in touch if you're an older mum and would like to meet up: especially any creative/professional types who now only work part-time or stay at home. We're going to organise a meet-up soon.

How old is an older mum? I am 35 and have moved to Edinburgh recently with my 14mo and have another one on the way in Jan.

You can probably count me in. 43 with 9 and 8 year olds.

Hi there,
I was thinking 30's to 40's so that's great. I'm just trying to think of somewhere good to meet. Isn't there a new playcentre opening up in Ocean terminal in November? Does anyone know about this? Perhaps that would be a good place to meet?

Hi all,

I am fairly new to Mumsnet and thought I posted earlier on this but have a 7.5 month DD so still get very confused! The hormones are definitely not right yet! I am 39 (just!) and live outside Edinburgh. I am still on maternity leave until Jan and would love to meet some more Mums. From other messages on the board, there is a place in Corstorphine I think it was called Agenda which has a softplay area and seemed to be popular.

rubyone · 29/10/2004 21:40

Hi, let's definitely try to get together - Corstorphine would be fine for me. Or if people are on the other side of town, I went to a place today called (if my memory serves me correctly - my son is 2 and I'm still completely forgetful! -)Clown Around - or something. It's on Restalrig road - Leith basically and was pretty good. Nice and light (unlike Marcos) and also what I liked is that the softplay area for 1-3 year olds was separated from the older kids so one didn't keep getting knocked down by boisterous kids.

What does everyone think? And which day? I can't do Weds but can do other days.

Friday is the best day for me - but can change things around to another day if necessary. Don't mind where we go - I am outside Edinburgh so have to drive anyway and DD is not crawling yet so soft play etc a bit advanced for her!!

Frasersmum · 04/11/2004 12:35

I am happy to meet at Clown around too, and can usually manage most days exc thursday ams and unfortunately the next Friday I can do is the 19th.

PattyToo · 04/11/2004 15:04

Friday 19th would be OK for me. How about you Rubyone? By the way have you ever done a Mumsnet meet before? There is some very interesting - and scary - postings about them......

rubyone · 05/11/2004 19:54

I don't think I can do Friday the 19th (or 26th) unfortunately - though usually Fridays are fine. How about MOnday 15th? 11am?

Yes, I went to one meet-up a year or so ago and it was very civilised. I haven't read the scary posting - what was the gist of it? I think if you meet in a public place and you have kids, it's fairly obvious who you are and what you're doing there. It's no different from meeting at a local playgroup - it it? Only, hopefully you'll be meeting people in your own age group and might have something to talk about!

Unfortunately Monday 15th is out for me, but can do Tues or Wed 10ish or 3ish if thats any good?

PattyToo · 12/11/2004 11:30

I could do the Wednesday (17th?) but would need to be a bit after 1100 (nap time at 1000!).

The postings around meet ups involve lots of no shows, a few embarrassing "are you here for a Mums net meet" and a some very negative feedback about cliques. That said, there are lots saying it was "lovely to meet you" too. I guess you can only try it for yourself and see what happens.
