Ronniebaby · 13/10/2004 22:36

Jampot - I'd spend a night out with ya, altho as usual we'd be taking over the convo's , in fact we'd be battling for breath

NomDePlume · 14/10/2004 11:09

You know what I mean...

Ronniebaby · 14/10/2004 11:48

NDP how could you, Jampot's lovely

Nah really looking forward to it if I can make it???

Petesmum · 14/10/2004 14:17

You all sound friendly so I'll take the plunge and ask for my name to be added to what ever list is being made for this get together. I've not met up with any other MNetters yet but I guess an evening that involves a bevvie to supply dutch courage is as good a start as anything. I'm probably better off attending without DH or DS (they can keep each other company at home!) Hopefully see you soon.

jampot · 14/10/2004 14:28

EXCELLENT petesmum - where you from?

OP posts:
Mum2girls · 14/10/2004 14:34

I'm from Coventry - I'm ok driving although I'd prefer to be able to have a 'sherry', just to be sociable to understand..... Would just depend on other commitments (she says when all she really has in her social diary is badminton matches...)

jampot · 14/10/2004 14:38

Well I'm pretty sure by now all the best Brum places are booked plus gets very busy generally at Xmas time - any ideas on location?

OP posts:
Petesmum · 14/10/2004 14:39

I'm from Burton on Trent which is pretty central for Derby / Nottingham / Birmingham / Leicester etc...As I have a car I'm free to travel (although I might try to tell DH that I need to stay over somewhere just for a night off and a long forgotten lie in! )

whimsy · 14/10/2004 14:41

What are we after meal, drink, both or meal, drink and dance We will need to know what people fancy so we can think of venues

LunarSea · 14/10/2004 18:48

I'd be happy with meal, drink and conversation type of thing - which would actually give people a chance to get to know each other a bit. Trouble with a dance type event, if you don't really know each other to start with, is everyone would probably be more inhibited than if they were with people they knew (which could be a good or bad thing depending upon you/your point of view), and you still end the evening not really having got to know anyone.

Jampot - when we've done catered events at Old Sils before they've insisted that we use their catering - seem to recall it was about £5/head last year for a couple of sandwiches, sausage roll, crisps and mince pie. Probably not the best value compared to (largish) restaurant.

whimsy · 15/10/2004 10:01

Agree with Lunarsea

Ronniebaby · 15/10/2004 10:16

If I can make it, I agree I much prefer nowadays a nice meal, sit down and chat (dont get me wrong I love to boogie), but waddling aint my style

Now beggers the question of where to have this shin-dig

Ronniebaby · 15/10/2004 10:17

Oh and when, can we have some dates & venue ideas from the floor.

Ronniebaby · 15/10/2004 10:19

Ladies - I know that this thread is for Xmas, but those who are interested there is to be a Solihull meet up Solihull Meetup in November, it's gonna be in Coleshill. If you fancy that as a starter then put your name down.

CHRIZ · 15/10/2004 10:24

hi there

havent a clue when it comes to arranging things like this so i,m learing wheres good to go via this site

wheres ev1 based that def wants to go work out a location from there

i drive so have no excuse lol can always book a hotel and stop over nite if DH wont pick us up but nice to have a few drinks to chill out

when was we planning it for?early dec?

whimsy · 15/10/2004 10:26

Would the weekend be better for people or mid week? I've got to say I'd prefer weekend what about end of Nov. 26/27 start of Dec say the 3rd or 4th. Venue Im not sure maybe a nice restaurant but we'd need to book soon because of xmas work party's. Any ideas?

CHRIZ · 15/10/2004 10:33

yes them dates suggestions are ok with me as after that its all the work parties are on ,wont be free a weekend till after the 4th

LunarSea · 15/10/2004 12:52

26th November isn't good for me, but the others are ok.

So far we seem to have:
jampot (Solihull)
NomDePlume
blackduck
GeorginaA
LunarSea (Leamington Spa)
Ailsa
Ronniebaby (Tamworth?)
MumtoLaura
whimsy
clary (Derby)
CHRIZ (South Birmingham)
Petesmom (Burton on Trent)
Mum2girls (Coventry)

If everyone can fill in where they are we can try to work out a good compromise location.

I'm thinking NEC area might be good, as it's easy by motorway for most, and close enough to B'ham International to not be expensive by Taxi for the train people. Anyone know if anywhere like the Little Owl/Bulls Head at Meriden (which has hotel bit attached) are doing Christmas Dinners?

GeorginaA · 15/10/2004 13:04

I'm in Worcester.

Another vote for sit down & chat meal thingy. I have to confess that in my old age(!) I just don't enjoy dancing/loud music anymore. I like to hear myself think and enjoy adult conversation!!

Blackduck · 15/10/2004 13:06

I'm Birmingham based.....
Little Owl - don't know if it is doing Xmas dinner (used to work near there...) - is okay - reasonable wine list...)
Could try checking out www.birminghamplus.com for possible locations...

Ronniebaby · 15/10/2004 13:23

LS - theyll all have christmas dinners or menus on by then.

The 1st weekend in Dec would be fine for me, but I'd be driving, so no need for a room. (The Fri or the Sat nite)

Ronniebaby · 15/10/2004 13:27

pubs Check this out, or click on the pub group and it tells you of pubs up & down the country, useful to keep

LunarSea · 15/10/2004 14:38

rb - I wasn't sure about the Little Owl, because it's part of Vintage Inns, and they seem to have a policy of not normally doing reserved tables. I'll be going past the Heron's Nest on the way home tonight though, so I'll call in there and see if they are doing Christmas Menus. If that one does, it's a fair chance that one of the others will too.

whimsy · 15/10/2004 15:07

North Birmingham. NEC sounds ok
