Meet-ups

When meeting up take sensible precautions. Meet in a public place and let others know where you are going.

OK, <deep breath> if I organise it....Is anyone up for a Christmas meet-up in a hotel where we can drink, eat, dance and hear each other. It will require approx. a tenner (non-returnable if you drop out) in advance?

I'm thinking...

Function room in central London hotel (easy for everyone to get to, with rooms at hopefully a good rate, on-site)

Some food, some wine (or whatever) and a DJ.

London again

MamaGryffindor · 16/07/2007 23:31

No, Because:-

(a) I live too far away and
(b) I'd have to be nice to everyone
(c)

Function room in a hotel

CountessDracula · 16/07/2007 23:31

sounds a bit Alan Partridge

moondog · 16/07/2007 23:32

function room?????

You will be mistaken for the Rotarian Ladies' Circle.

CountessDracula · 16/07/2007 23:32

well said moondog

(has your pmt gone?! )

Bubble99 · 16/07/2007 23:32

But, CD, it's either that or a bar where, yes, we can dance on banquettes but we can't hear each other.

PMT??

Gah,no such thing.

Have been to an energetic step session tonight.

Fightinmg fit, me.

Twinklemegan · 16/07/2007 23:33

How's about somewhere more central than London for a change?

Tortington · 16/07/2007 23:33

i think its a great idea.

i think the londoners wat sommat swanky.

thing is your not going to please everyone

thats why democracy just doesn't work int hese situations

CountessDracula · 16/07/2007 23:33

so how about upstairs in a pub
loads have rooms

just purleeese not a function room in a hotel

We could just go the whole hog and go to a travellodge on the swindon ring road or something, razor blades free of charge.

Bubble99 · 16/07/2007 23:34

Oh fuck off, all of you.

Shall I get this thread pulled and try again with a different phrase?

OP posts:
MamaGryffindor · 16/07/2007 23:34

I think you should

Tortington · 16/07/2007 23:34

twinkle i do believe there is a midlands one - and you can always organise one at a location of your choice whenever you want

crunchie · 16/07/2007 23:34

bubble have you seen the other thread?? I promised to look at city bars/pubs as they are dead at weekend and do private hire (therefore we can set volumes) only I have been too busy.

moondog · 16/07/2007 23:34

Piss about with the trouser presses once you've got a bit tiddly on the pre-mixed G&Ts from the min bar.

Sound s like a hoot.

I'm in!

CountessDracula · 16/07/2007 23:35

I don't want swanky

I prefer a bit scummy tbh

But a sodding hotel room with horrible burgundy carpet with fleur de lys in it and fecking shite dj and sausage rolls....

count me out!

MintyDixCharrington · 16/07/2007 23:35

well a travelodge on the swindon ring road would be AWFULLY convenient for me
and I could invite certain choice mumsnetters to come and stay at peahead towers and we'd be the palazzo clique

oh yes go on go on go on

moondog · 16/07/2007 23:35

I once went to a school reunion in a Travelodge in Burnley.

Unsurprisingly it was dreadful

We even ate dinner there.

Twinklemegan · 16/07/2007 23:35

Oh I know. It's just the "official" meet-ups are always in bloody London (like the rest of us are second class Mumsnetters or something )

CountessDracula · 16/07/2007 23:36

City good yes
The Samuel Pepys is fantastic venue

beautiful views of the Globe and the Tate modern

food ok, lovely lighting etc

ComeOVeneer · 16/07/2007 23:36

Twinkle I think the general consensus for the past few years is if there are people waning one based elsewhere in the country the onus is on them to organise one (I think there may have been a Birmingham one last year)

CountessDracula · 16/07/2007 23:36

oh minty, minty

Ocado gave me a free book about you today

Twinklemegan · 16/07/2007 23:37

Oh you London-centric lot you. Our postnatal club is being democratic and non-London centric and meeting in Warwick. I still can't go mind, but it's the principle of it.
