SPD is nasty. In my case it helped me decide I was stopping at 2.

I did most of my labour for dd2, and delivered whilst on my hands and knees, as chances of me "just popping my heels up to my bottom" to assume the spatch cocked chicken position beloved by midwives was Nil.

In fact, when asked to assume SCC position, I may have said a very rude phrase........ but I'm blaming second stage

God, I hadn't even thought ahead to labour
Think I'm secretly hoping that the midwife will say 'No, HMP, it's not SPD, just some random pelvis weakening thing that will be over in a few days....'
I can hope!!

HonorMatopoeia · 26/07/2007 21:17

Thank you sleepycat- but even I must admit to seeing the funny side of trying to get into the car for 10 minutes!

Itsthawooluff · 26/07/2007 21:27

My recommendations for (hopefully not HMP's) SPD:

Sleep with lots of pillows to keep you in place.

Lots of pelvic floor exercises, and trying to hollow the muscles directly above pubic cone. More muscle strength means less tension on stretchy ligaments.

V sexy strap on support belt in white elastic and velcro (which you forget to return, and keep finding in cupboard for next 18months. Then get shirty note asking for return of "NHS equipment". Frantically dig dingy grey belt out of cupboard and boil wash. Just before leave the county, skuttle into hospital reception leaving envelope with now hopelessly warped ex elastic, but at least white, belt inside together with hugely apologetic note).

You have to get in and out of cars like you are wearing a micro mini. Back up to the seat, rest bum on seat, and then clamping knees together like a convent girl at a rugby club dinner, swing legs together to face front.

Post baby it goes away really quickly though - or at least mine did

Itsthawooluff · 26/07/2007 21:28

pubic bone, although could well be pubic cone as well. My biology was always pants.

HonorMatopoeia · 26/07/2007 21:31

I fear the support belt....I really do!
Pelvic floor exercises are woefully lacking on my behalf and I must must must start doing more!
My problem with the (very good) micro mini approach to car sitting is - I'm a short arse and Dh has a tall car, the seat comes up to my waist.I'm going to have to use the toilet step aren't I? Pants !!

HonorMatopoeia · 26/07/2007 21:32

Now my biology is so pants that I've been wondering where the pelvic cone was situated!!

Itsthawooluff · 26/07/2007 21:38

lol ( sympathetically )at HMP's need for mounting block to get in car, but I think you might well need it - sorry.

It's when you find yourself seriously wondering how much Stannah stairlifts costs, or those nice tip you up into standing chairs Thora Hird used to advertise, that you need to start worrying.

HonorMatopoeia · 26/07/2007 21:39

I've already joked about the stairlift as work have just moved into a two storey building! They want me to work upstairs - I think not!

mistressmiggins · 27/07/2007 16:10

Glad you came SleepyCat, its always nice meeting new faces -hope we weren't too scary and that you'll come again

LunarSea · 28/07/2007 19:12

We missed you Littlefish - a select gathering of 6 in the end. Very strange to have a Worcester meetup with no "tales from the classroom" though.

Beauregard · 28/07/2007 21:27

Glad you had fun.
