Does anyone live in Taunton, whats it like?

This isn't thread but thought I would put it here as well as in "other subjects". We want to move next year and if jobs come up its one of the place we were thinking of. Anyone from there?

I lived in a small town called Langport about 15 miles from Taunton and it is a wonderful area. I am not a large town lover so would prefer to live in a village on the outskirts, like Creech St.Michael, but apart from never being a fan of Bridgwater I say you can't really go wrong anywhere around there!

Where are you moving there from?

I am now in Surrey and miss Somerset sooooooo much - my mum lives in Somerton so I still visit when theres no A303 holiday traffic to contend with

thanks very much for the invite but we are on holiday then. I'm in Ealing and have been in London for a long time so am not sure I could live in a village (although I seem to spend all my time in the area right by my house so I may as well be in a village!) We have friends in Street and North Somerset so Ive been to a few places around there and briefly visited Taunton. It must be lovely being near the sea and countryside.

Beetroot, lucky you, I wish my hubby would consider commuting to work so we could move back down there! Where is the Summer Party being held?

Jane313, I live near very near to Taunton (andf work in Taunton) and would recommend it! Used to be in London but moved a fair few years ago and grew up around here and have seen many changes over the years...Taunton has definitely changed for the better, although still too many hairdressers!

what is it with hairdressers! the raod I live near has about 8 within 5 mins walk and its not even a town centre. And I still can't find one I like!

jane313.. just seen your post, I work in Taunton and have lived in the surrounding areas for last 20 years..I sound old... Taunton is a really nice small rural town. Shoppings ok but Exeter in Devon is better, crime is low and I feel safe at night in the town. Some really good schools/colleges. Entertainment ok Brewhouse theatre/cinema/plenty of restaurants.. not all of them good though!! I agree with Beetroot that surrounding villages are worth looking at. Hope all goes well if job comes up from this area.

why I can't I spell village? I went to University in Exeter and like it but would feel odd about living there again otherwise that would be on our list of possibilities
